Persona, the critically acclaimed RPG series, is finally coming to the 3DS. During a recent event in Japan, Atlus revealed details for Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.
The spin-off is set to feature various characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4, as well as being presented in a chibi-like style. With previous entries in the series being Sony exclusives, Shadow of the Labyrinth will be the first Persona game to arrive on a Nintendo console.
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, is coming to Japan on 5th June 2014. So far there’s been no word on a Western release, but hopefully this will be announced in the near future. The Japanese trailer can be seen below:
Do you have your fingers crossed for a Western release of Persona Q? Have you played previous games in the series, if so, what did you think of them? Let us know in the comments section below.

I've never played a Persona game, but I loved what Persona Team did with Catherine, so I'll at least keep my eye on it.
Digging that groovy title logo.
CAN'T. STOP. WATCHING.
This'll be one awesome spinoff!
But I seriously wonder how they're gonna explain the return of some dead characters (not telling who died)...
OH BOY! OH BOY! OH BOY! North America and Europe please!
I always thought that series was weird to begin with... interesting...
Well, it's not a main Persona but it'll have to do. Not a fan of the chibi look though.
EO styled persona? I'm in.
Not a big fan of Persona, but more JRPGs is never a bad thing.
@MeddlingIdiot ******Crosses Fingers******
I've only played P1 & P3P (actually playing that right now on my Vita).
This will be a definite purchase for me... If it comes to the west of course.
Even though I got a vita (only) to play Persona 4, I am stoked to see Persona on 3DS! Excited for this and Persona 5. w00t!
I love Persona, but not such a fan of EO, so I'm torn here. I'll keep watching it's progress though.
I should play a Persona game....
I've never played Persona before, but I'll probably give this a go if it sees a release outside of Japan. Oh, I'll probably get Persona 5 on my PS3, too, I doubt it will be that difficult to jump in now.
I've never played a Persona game despite owning the soundtrack to P3 & P4. But out of Atlus's big three EO is my favorite so I'll be looking out for this. I'll be getting Persona 4 golden soon too.
I'm...kinda disappointed. The PS3 gets TWO Persona games (including Persona 5) and we only get this...
Huh, at least we don't get some stupid dance game (hehe...he...)
@Melkaticox It's a problem that lies within the fanbase. Persona started on PSX and remained on Sony platforms to this day (Arena doesn't count, that's still a spinoff). If they were to release Persona 5 on WiiU, they'd enter a risky gamble, since there's no telling how the WiiU's user base might react. But just about every Persona fan owns a PS2, and many of them got a PS3 as well, so why not give it to them as usual?
@Melkaticox Persona has been a popular series for Playstation fans, as Etrian Odyssey and Trauma Center has been a popular series for Nintendo fans, they're just trying to please the fans. You should be happy for what the 3DS already has, including the excellent, Shin Megami Tensei IV.
As for the dance game, I'm a large fan of rhythm games, and so is a large amount of Japan. It's not really a bad deal.
I'll be getting it just cause. It's obvious it was made for fans (just look at that cast)! And not gonna lie, I've always wanted a Persona rhythm game haha,
Game looks like it will be good still way more excited for Persona 5.
@turtlelink
Wait what? It's a rhythm game and not a RPG? Eww..
@Expa0 I think the game announced for PS Vita is a rthythem game.
@Jazzer94
Okay, now I'm confused. How many Persona games were announced?
Freakin come on! Why do developers keep doing this to the 3DS? Whatever, I guess there's no reason for this handheld to get a main series title.
Good news for you guys! Im upgrading from 3ds to 3DSXL. Furthermore, investing in my 3ds libarary because i only got Pokemon X. So guys any recommondations?
Cancelled my Ps4 pre order.. Heavely investing in 3DS/ Vita and ofcourse every persona releasing Vita/ 3ds/ps3.
I can't wait to see the USA release date for this game I played the game before but on the ps3 it was awesome fighting game loved it
@Expa0 They announced THREE Persona games. 3DS gets PQ, Vita gets a rhythm game based on P4, and PS3 gets P5. I haven't played Persona, but the trailer is certainly intriguing.
I will decide if I care for it IF and WHEN localization is announced.
I'm so in for this. The battle system looks like P3 and the P3 cast is here so I can't not get it.
YESSSSSS! Ive always wanted to play a Persona game! If this doesnt get localized i will learn Japanese and play it on my Japanese 3ds.
I see comparisons to EO but the battle scenes don't look a thing like EO. Is this a 3d dungeon crawler?
@Sanquine SMT: 4 and Soul Hackers, Etrian Odyssey 4 and Untold, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Kid Icarus, Resident Evil: Revelations, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy: Theatrthym, Mario Kart 7, Tales of the Abyss, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, MGS 3, Animal Crossing, and Donkey Kong Country Returns..
@sinalefa Yep it's best to wait and see if we even get this at all. I hope so
@Windy There are some reports that it will be a dungeon crawler.
@sinalefa
With that said I think chances for localization are pretty good, Persona is far more popular in the West than the main SMT games so if they localized SMT IV, its is very likely they'll localize this
From what I (we all?) heard those games are very good. I just started playing my first SMT game and I like them a lot. So here is hoping this comes to PAL-countries (and to NA of course;)
@kasplat
THAT is the spirit!
A Persona game? On a Nintendo Console? Truly this is something to behold! because I have no knowledge of of persona besides of a final boss song and a fighting game.
@One-Winged-Pit I'm buying either way. This will be awesome i'm sure. Now I'm in the mood to play some SMTIV!
@Kaze_Memaryu, Titanics So what? They could release Persona 5 on the Wii U too, instead of it being a Sony exclusive.
Also, didn't SMT4 sell like 2 times more than SMT3 in the US? (SMT4 has sold 10,000 more copies than SMT3, was released on a console with a far lower install base than the PS2, and it hasn't been released on Europe yet...) Persona 5 would sell EVEN MORE on the 3DS.
Oh well, at least Persona Q will be good...
@Swiket Holy crap I completely forgot about that, you're right!
Really wish didn't ride on Persona 3 and 4's success considering Nintendo only gamers likely haven't touched either game. I REALLY hope it doesn't draw heavily from those games, despite having played them.
Here we go Nintendo fans being biased over a title that been on Sony systems for years sigh........I'm happy for the new Persona 5 (Been playing Persona since the first) And this first ever 3DS Persona title should do some good probably.
@Melkaticox I know, but SMT is a different case altogether, since SMTIV has very few connections to earlier entries (I'm a bit surprised you know it). Persona has a much larger fanbase, and the vast majority of them has a Sony console. If the MegaTen team made Persona 5 for WiiU AND PS3, the vast majority would get it for PS3 instead of WiiU.
And if they were to bring it as a WiiU exclusive, fan backlash would be guaranteed - not to mention the difference in sold copies in such a case...
Sad as it may be, fans will hardly give Persona a chance to succeed on Nintendo platforms. Other entries to the SMT series and Persona spinoffs have it better.
The 'Q' part of the title makes me think of this guy, lol:
Persona is one of the few RPG franchises that interests me less than 0%. Glad its coming to the 3ds for people that enjoy the series, I however hope it is a way different style of game from the core Persona series
Hmmm... so they are making a spin-off (this game) from another spin-off (Persona), how far can Atlus take Shin Megami Tensei? Also I'm not really sure about this game, the chibi art style makes this feel more like a mobile download title rather than the anime style of the main spinoff series.
I really loved both Persona 3 and Persona 4, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this. And I'm happy to see the characters being brought together into one game, since they all exist in the same world.
No thanks, not for me. I've tried to get into Persona but it's too dark for my liking so I'll pass. I'm happy for others though, first Persona on a Nintendo system so I've heard
Persona 3, then Persona 4 and now Persona Q? Did someone fail counting?
Will get this when it comes out as I love SMT IV. Really hope it releases here in NA and Europe.
I REALLY want that all the games announced get released over here! I loved Persona 4 Golden on my Vita and Persona 4 Arena. I'm currently playing Persona 3 Portable on my PSP and I'm very excited for Persona 5 on PS3 and this one on the 3DS, althugh I know I'll also problably get the rhythm game on the VIta and the new Arena.
@WiiLovePeace Too Dark? I think this looks really cutesy in comparison to your usual Persona stuff. But I guess we'll have to see more.
Two things this doesn't Mention, which seems to be confusing poeople:
1) This is a spin-off. Of A Spin-off. It's a Dungeon Crawler more akin to Etrian Odyssey, but with Persona characters.
2) Persona 5 was also announced for the PS3. Not exactly necessary, but I guess it'd help clear up some confusion.
@Jayvir It has characters from both games. I think that's a given.
@Zodiak13 It is. Still, what ones have you played? Each game plays very different from eachother, they're practically separate games.
Looking forward to this. Looks like chibi-style really is best for the 3DS's small screen and ultra-low resolution.
More 3ds love from Atlus is all I care about! Bring it on!
@DarkwingLz At least they counted to 3 unlike Valve
@DarkwingLz No, Persona 5 is coming to the PS3 exclusively next year. Persona Q is just a spinoff.
@CanisWolfred I mean the story & themes of the series mostly, & obviously the graphics use far too much black for my liking. Chibi characters doesn't change the other usual traits of the Persona series but that's what I've gathered from the trailer & what I expect as it's a Persona game.
Well it's the closest thing I'll get to getting a main persona game on a 3DS console. Also how come the guy from the velvet room is there but the female main character from P3P is not? I guess it's mostly going to be like Etrian Odyssey but I don't mind dungeon crawlers if there's a story involved and it looks like there is. Gonna miss social links though
@Peach64 Same. It's not the art style that gets me, I actually don't mind that at all, I just don't like first person dungeon crawling heavy RPGs. I like how Persona is a mix of third person dungeons and other RPG aspects, such as school and social links.
MY GOODNESS THIS LOOKS AWESOME
Another awesome game the Wii U misses..sigh
If Nintendo is giving the 3DS so much love, The Wii U might as well fade and no one outside from Nintendo fans would care if SSB4 and SM3DW are the only savours....
June 6th is my birthday, so if it does come to the US, I hope it comes at a close date.
@Memeboy3 I have a strong feeling that Nintendo will be going handheld-only after this generation, regardless of whether the Wii U fails to reach Gamecube numbers or just surpasses SNES numbers. Nintendo's home consoles are waning in popularity in North America and are practically non-existent in Europe, while home consoles in general are disappearing in Japan. However, they could go for a microconsole.
I personally think that Nintendo is going to rethink their stance on home consoles after this generation. Changing from a normal home console to an all-digital microconsole would be a smart move for Nintendo. People buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games. Wii U is getting phenomenal indie support, and lackluster 3rd party support. If Nintendo's games and indies are the only reason to buy a Nintendo console, wouldn't it make a lot more sense for Nintendo to go for an all-digital microconsole that would ultimately be cheaper for both Nintendo and the consumer? Nintendo and other companies would make direct profit while the big games will be a lot cheaper.
@WiiLovePeace So Persona 5 is coming to the PS3, not the PS4? Good, one more reason for me not to buy one (PS4) yet.
@Memeboy3 You forgot, the Wii U is still getting Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Don't forget, Atlus is supporting Wii U too ya know.
@IceClimbers I don't think Nintendo will go all digital, they'll probably still have three or five gens left in them. There are still a few IPs they haven't release yet and still many new ones in the making. It's only Wii U's second run, the games will come. They only thing is that Nintendo just couldn't ignore those casual games, more core gamers wants games like Wario Land, Yoshi's Island, F-Zero, Star Fox, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong Country, Kid Icarus, Baten Kaitos, Golden Sun, Earth Bound, and some new IPs. All Nintendo gave us are either ports, remakes or sequels to IPs of last gen or a bunch of casual and party games with very few titles for the core gamers (Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, etc.). Hopefully they gave us better games for Wii U the following years or they will start to dissolve. I hope games like Super Smash Bros. 4, Bayonetta 2, Monolith's X, Mario Kart 8, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, and Yarn Yoshi aren't the only titles they had for us next year.
As much as I liked the SMT games for 3DS, I think they should've tried to avoid the labyrinth theme/design idea for this game, as it's been overused to exhaustion in recent releases.
@retro_player_22 Yeah it's a little odd but I guess it makes sense since the PS4 is arriving in Japan on Feburary 22, 2014 & it's not yet known how well it will do there. Also Persona 4 arrived exclusively (at the time) to PS2 two years after the PS3 arrived so I guess it's a thing ATLUS in Japan just like to do Though when Gaikai eventually releases it will allow PS3 games to be played on the PS4 via the "cloud" so there's that
@Swiket It's a shame SMT4 felt so bland when compared to the Persona games. I'll have to get back into it one day.
YAY! I loved Persona 3 and 4!
I hope it'll be possible to play the the girl from P3P.
Not a fan of chibi, but let's see how it does.
Seems that I am probably the only one here who saw this and had the immediate thought of "Shut up and take my money!"
It is about time these games came to Nintendo.
This looks pretty good! I think if this gets localized I will definitely get it, and it's in time for my birthday next year. I hope they'll still have a little bit of the social aspect from the games though.
So... Much... Want...
And Minato's back!!!!!!!
It might well be that Atlus is testing the waters with PersonaQ on the 3DS. If it sells well we might get more persona related stuff.
@memeboy3 This is nothing to do with Nintendo. Atlus decide which consoles to put their games on and they always take Persona where the money is. There's zero chance of them putting one on the Wii U right now, they don't care about specs or next gen, they just care about the consoles that have the highest selling software. It's the same reason P4 came out on PS2 despite the 7th gen starting in 2005 and why P5 was always going to be on PS3 and not PS4
@BeatOli
Same here. That sixties-esque logo feels daaaaaaaaayum good.
YES! A persona game with chibi style characters! I am loving my 3DS even more now.
Looks like a 2015 western release then. It may even be out before the European release of SMT IV.
Please bring it to Europe. :<
I totally called this and forget next gen, since Persona 5 is announced for PS3 which I would only have bought a PS4 IF Persona 5 was exclusive to it.. Yay, my wallet is saved :3
Also spoiler I'm extremely happy that Minato (the persona 3 protagonist) is back I was incredibly sad after what happened at the end of P3.. I'm just super excited for this and P5 (provided they get released here), since SMT and Persona are my favorite game series.
I'm really hoping this is the first step towards more Persona games coming to Nintendo consoles. I would buy 3DS ports of Persona 3 and Persona 4 in a heartbeat. I would also be ecstatic if Persona 5 made it's way to the Wii U eventually.
@Spoony_Tech HERE! HERE! I Cant Wait
Why are so many RPGS on the 3DS in chibi style? They are in their normal style on every other console, but once they go to the 3DS it's chibi style again.
it looks awesome and i like the chibi looks. i just hope they still have the school part and social links as well
Fantastic !
@Kaze_Memaryu And how exactly do you know that all persona fans "have Sony consoles"? Again, if SMT IV sold so well on the 3DS, Persona 5 would be even more successful there and it'll ever be on the PS3.
@Melkaticox Simple: Persona's main entries are all Sony exclusives.
You can't assume that many Persona fans actually know about it's background as part of the SMT series, so SMT IV doesn't concern them - or any other SMT game for that matter.
At least half of the Persona fanbase doesn't know/care for spinoffs or other SMT games at all, so barely any Persona fans even expect an entry to show up on WiiU at all - they expect it on Sony consoles, where the series remained at all times. Meanwhile, both WiiU and 3DS have yet to reach the sales figures of PS3, so more success on either one is quite unlikely.
This is the first Persona game on a Nintendo console, so it's certainly good news. I've never played a Persona game before, but it looks very interesting. Hope it reaches our shores.
@CanisWolfred PS1 Persona 1 and 2, Persona 3, and I have friends w/ P4 Golden. Just none of them interest me, the PS1 titles were at least ok, I can't stand 3 or 4, just ain't my thing. Not saying they are bad games, just not my thing. I love Atlus and their unique RPG styles they try, so I give them credit for that always.
Oh yeah, and if you guys remember, at E3 2010 Atlus announced that they were making Persona for the 3DS... So I'm guessing they will localize it I'd be sad if they didn't, but since they made that statement at E3 I am assuming we will get it.
@Kaze_Memaryu When you played P3P you would know your answere
i can't wait for this game to come out in europa. I played all of the games, most import from japan or america because the don't show up by us but at least, i hope this game will release by us too.
@Hayakoi Sorry, but I don't know what you're trying to tell me with that.
