Earlier this week it appeared the upcoming Wii U title Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games was given a release date, as a notification on the system in North America stated it would be sliding in on 8th November.
However, in a dramatic twist it seems this was in fact an error as Nintendo has informed GoNintendo an official launch date will be announced soon.
The Nov. 8 launch date for Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games that was recently listed in a Wii U notification was an error. A confirmed launch date will be announced in the future. We apologize for any confusion.
The Sochi 2014 Olympic Games are set to open on 7th February, usually the Mario & Sonic titles emerge a little before the event so it can't be that far away.
What are your thoughts on this one? Are you still hoping to see it on the shelves before the year is out? Let us know in the comment section below.

Big surprise. Another delayed game on Wii U.
....I wonder if the developers' coding problems are all the same, or it's Nintendo who's scrutinizing the game ever so carefully (as it has its licensed characters) that they gave the game back to the coders to re-work on it.
Would be stupid to launch this at the same time as Wii Sports Club and Wii Fit U.
Yeah that would be bad timing
Will this game have balance board support for the skiing and stuff?
Wii Fit U will be a day one purchase for me if it has dual balance board support for Skiing and Snowboarding races. It's about time they made a 1080' Snowboarding for the balance board too.
@micronean
it's not really being delayed though, it was not supposed to have that as a release date as it was someone screwing up.
@Nintenjoe64 it seems like it, I was wondering the same thing.
@micronean It may still get released on that date, it's just not confirmed yet.
How the ...?! What the ...?!
Delays are one thing, but this isn't about a delay, it's about sending out a notification message on their own private network. How can they possibly mess that up? Nov 8 is only about 6 weeks away, so this isn't 1 of those Duke Nukem Forever or Last Guardian "it's ready when it's ready" type of things. They sent out a date 6 weeks before the date. On their own internal network. This wasn't a drunken blab at a convention, it was processed and vetted.
I guess that means the "online multiplayer" that is listed twice in the eShop description is wrong also.
Nintendo - 2 steps forward, 1 step back on Wii U advertising
Guess we should be thankful for the 2 steps forward (Fit U and Club) but this is still pretty messed up.
Where's Iwata's apology? Or is Reggie just going to get demoted again?
Ok, breathe. Maybe the date is correct but it was just released early. Yeah that must be it. And they've already set the precedent for an early eShop before disc release w/ Luigi ad WW HD so I don't have a problem with that.
Havent played any of the previous games, but basically the snowboarding will sell this game to me. Looks really fun.
Well, it was only a NA date, so it doesn't bother me. Knowing them they'll get an early download like with WWHD anyway.
Good job, Nintendo. An "error", huh? How exactly does that play out?
I bet they were all like "D'OH!"
@Mahe It would be even worse to launch it after the winter Olympic games has finished.
Not sure quality matters for these type of games when it comes to how many they sell. (The DS and 3DS Smurfs 2 games are everywhere and presumably selling).
@unrandomsam Still plenty of time between those and the dual releases of Wii Sports Club and Wii Fit U at the beginning of November.
@micronean Does it count as a delay when it was never intended to be released then anyway?
@unrandomsam Not one version of Smurfs 2 has sold over 20,000. This includes Xbox360 and Ps3 versions.
