Nintendo is giving the 3DS a lot of love at the moment. Yesterday it dedicated an entire Nintendo Direct presentation to the handheld and today it's announced it will be joining forces with UK retailer GAME to hold a massive 3DS multiplayer event across the country this weekend.
Multiplayer Mayhem will take place between 10am and 6pm on 20th April and allows 3DS owners to pop in for a bit of multiplayer action with whatever games they choose.
Of course there will be multiplayer challenges available to play on the day for a couple of designated games. The first is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which will see you team up with three other players to hunt down some gigantic beasts, and the other will see you and a bunch of others head up the Thrill Tower in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, sucking up ghosts as you go.
Naturally, freestyle tournaments are sure to pop up and we'd expect Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus: Uprising to be popular.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to try LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins a whole six days before it launches in the UK on 26th April. There will also be demos for Fire Emblem: Awakening, which is released tomorrow, and Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow – Mirror Of Fate.
The participating GAME stores include:
- Westfield Stratford
- Birmingham Bullring
- Trafford Centre
- Meadowhall
- Reading Oracle
- Coventry
- Braehead
- Metro Centre (Red Pathway)
- Bristol Cribbs Causeway
- Lakeside (Shopping Centre)
- Cardiff St Davids
- Merry Hill
- Nottingham Victoria
- Leeds Headrow
- Maidstone
This should be a great little event for those looking for some multiplayer fun and of course a few StreetPass puzzle pieces.
Will you be attending the event? Let us know how you get on if you do!

Why does nothing interesting happen here in America?
and as usual no Northern Ireland....
@3Dash It does. It just happens in Los Angeles ALL THE TIME.
Think ill go to Maidstone or Lakeside then. Lakeside has better nom noms!
Hmm. This makes me tempted to pop down to meadowhall in sheffield, but I can't really imagine where they're going to do it, there is barely any space! Especially not in either of the two game stores!
Is there no more info than this on the event? It's a bit late to announce it too really...
Hmm, I may be able to attend, still they're all a little bit out the way for me!
I might visit the Cardiff one, but I'm not expecting much. 3DS gatherings seem to get organised pretty frequently through FB and I imagine they getting a bigger turnout than most of these will.
I will be working this promo event! I'll be in charge of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate in the Oracle Centre (Reading) tomorrow, so it would be awesome to see some of you come in and have a go at some quests and arena challenges (and show me how it's done since I am a bit of a noob when it comes to MonHun)!!
I'll also have my personal 3DS on me for Streetpass and Puzzle Pieces.
Meadowhall is right next to me. Might pop in see what's going on.
I'll probably pop in to Coventry, though which store? There are 3, 2 in the city centre and 1 at Ricoh.
@dimmerthanthat The Coventry one is at 60 Broadgate if that helps.
@MetroidSlayer i know! i never use game anymore anyways. they are ninty haters, and rip off merchants!!
why doesn't gamestop do this in america?Too bad GAME isn't here.

Wow, less than 2 full days to advertise this event. I smell a fail.
@Buzzthebatgirl Cheers!
@demonta4 I remember a bunch of participating Gamestops that held a multiplayer group thingy every Saturday that was near the launch of the 3DS. They stopped doing it right after I got one though
I dont' know if it was just in my area or if it was in more places, but I just remember being disappointed
Pretty much the only ones left open then.
GAME is a terrible chain.
AWW! I wish I could go! =(
I would love that so much
A bit more of a warning would be helpful! Don't know if it's worth the trip to Coventry just for this.
I'll be there! Bristol Cribbs!
I hope people are there or it's going to be an important day wasted!
I wouldn't mind passing by one of those stores having this event but none is near where I live, damn it.
I'll head along to the notts one at some point if only for the streetpasses it's so rare to get a streetpass these days!!!
I'm visiting Leeds Headrow for some StreetPass hits!
Virtually nobody at the Maidstone store...
Heading to the Westfield Stratford one later, set up a Monster Hunter Street Pass gathering in Namco Arcade in London today at 1pm. All are welcome ^^
Yeah... waited for 3 hours at the meadowhall one, got a grand total of 4 streetpasses and no-one was playing multiplayer anything.
This one was a wash out. Oh well, free fire emblem/monster hunter posters and a nintendo branded bag at least.
Absolute rubbish, turned up in nottingham to nothing. There was someone playing on a 3ds who seemed involved with the event but they were head down ignoring people and I didn't even get a streetpass. Boss of the shop didn't really know what was going on. Maybe I was too late to the party and everyone's charge had gone but I had high hopes and was let down. To have 3ds' in the store that weren't streetpassing is poor.
