We have no objections to a Western release

Level-5, the developer behind the Professor Layton games, has gotten into the habit of being rather generous to us by extending the life of its games with free weekly DLC. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, for example, has been offering a new downloadable puzzle every single day since its launch and will do so for a whole year.

It’s now been revealed that the developer is doing the same with its new 3DS game Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, which has recently launched in Japan. The game will have extra weekly content that will start on 12th December and will run for 24 weeks, making new content available every Wednesday. The extra content appears to be split between special episodes and riddles as well as gallery items.

This one hasn’t yet been confirmed for a Western release, though Professor Layton and Ace Attorney titles usually arrive outside of Japan, so it would be a surprise if it didn’t make it.

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney launched in Japan at the end of November and has sold reasonably well, comfortably charting at number 2 in its opening week. However the 128,856 units sold is slightly down on what a Professor Layton or Ace Attorney game usually musters; hopefully the promise of weekly DLC will boost the numbers and make a Western localisation more likely.

Are you hoping Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney makes it to the West and brings all this tasty DLC with it? Let us know your thoughts on the game in the comments section below.
