Up until now, Nintendo retro lovers have only had first-party NES titles to play on the 3DS Virtual Console. Although Japan has seen a steady stream of non-Nintendo games - including the awesome Mega Man 3 - those games haven't shown any sign of coming to the west - until now, that is.
Konami has just released Super Contra for the 3DS Virtual Console in Japan, but it looks like players in the other parts of the world will be able to get their hands on the run-and-gun classic sooner rather than later.
The Australian Board of Classification has posted an entry for Super C - the NES title for Super Contra - and the applicant is Nintendo itself.
Thanks for the tip, Thedreaminghawk.

Well thats good news. Strange that Nintendo is posting it. I was told that Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom was also released on the Japanese eShop.
That reminds me, why did Nintendo Life suddenly stop posting Japan's VC month articles?
@Klyo Because a lot of the time, those pieces weren't very interesting and didn't get much traffic. We're still picking up on high-profile titles, though.
Cool. But I always wondered... why isnt the original Contra available on the VC?
Ok thats all good but its time the original Contra is released for the Wii and 3DS.
I think i like super c more than the first game it was more of a challenge but contra 3 was the best. Last week i finally beat alien wars on hard, it only took me 20 years.
Agree whole heartedly that original Contra needs to be made available.
Already available in Contra 4 for the DS.
Sod the crusty original, I always preferred this. Great level design and trying to speedkill the many bosses with your mate as fast as possible feels awesome. And none of those naff base levels.
I'd still like to see the Game Boy titles on the e-shop.
@Mahe Oh, I had no idea. Guess I'll just get that instead then.
Man, someone make Contra: Alien Wars is 3D!
I'll get it but only if it has multiplayer.
I wish they'd do more 3D classics, but I'm excited for this to come out on 3DS VC all the same
@Klyo When it comes to the OFLC, pretty much everything that's a download for Nintendo systems lists Nintendo as a publisher even if they aren't the ones actually publishing it in the end
Super C, you're the one for me!
@Mahe The versions on Contra 4 is pretty bad so no. The emulation software they used made the games much harder with bullets that you can barely see on the screen. I'd rather see them on VC.
I will totally download this one if it comes to the eShop! Any game that makes you want to break your controller or handheld is a must buy for me!
Japan gets three awesome surprise NES titles a week - while we have to be happy with one being announced a month before it's released, by itself. :/
Whý haven''t they ever released the first Contra on any form of virtual console!? It's almost as if they don't have the rights to it anymore or something.
We need a more robust library, that's for sure.
I agree that they should release the original Contra on VC but why won't they release one of my favorites, Guardian Legend?
up up down down left right left right b a start?
@gamermii The Konami Code.
@HawkeyeWii The did released the original Contra for Wii Virtual Console but it's the MSX version, not the NES one and since MSX is a Japanese platform that Cotnra didn't make it to NA's Wii Virtual Console. It still bother me why they couldn't release the NES version though.
