Japanese newspaper Nikkei reports that the upcoming 3DS firmware update will land in late November and allow up to 10 minutes of 3D video recording.
The paper (via Andriasang) also states that these videos can be uploaded to sites like YouTube, though it doesn't specify that this is possible directly from the 3DS, meaning your method of upload could be as dull as sticking your SD card in a computer and going from there.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will address the update and more details — including Mario Kart 7's wireless play modes — in an online press conference starting today at 8pm Japanese time.
We've marked this as a rumour, but considering the source is Japanese newspaper Nikkei — which has been right about so many Nintendo revelations in the past — it's more or less a sure thing.

I would be more excited if the 3DS camera´s quality was better.
Yeah the 3DS camera isn't too good, so this is of no interest to me.
10 minutes of video total or maximum per recording? Because if it's the former, that's kinda lame.
True that, the quality of the 3DS camera is disappointing and so for me just a gimmick I dont really use. Maybe the low resolution wont be noticeable in videos so much.
yeah, i hope its 10 minutes per video, its not like every 3ds owner has only a 2 gb sd card... what about those people with like... 8 gb sd cards?
The 3DS cameras are 0.3 megapixels right? That's the same as standard definition so if viewed on a standard T.V. the resolution will be fine. That doesn't change the fact that the cameras colours, dynamic range and compression artifacts all suck though.
Would be nice to see them upgrade the cameras in a futre revision - phone cameras have improved greatly over the years so it's not like the tech isn't there. Guess it's a question of cost...
@ennan
Nintendo is cheap, we just have to deal with it. The iPod Touch Gen4 shoots HD video and pictures (up to 720p), so I don't see why Nintendo can't put better cameras in their handhelds. Even the Vita has better cameras than the 3DS!
I just want them to update the sound recorder so we aren't stuck with a 10 second recording limit per sound file. Adding a "Play All" option would be nice as well.
dear NL, now that you are friends with Nintendo, why don't you tell them that their connectivity and online features are CRAP!!
@jerryo Nintendo staff read the site so I'm sure those opinions have been discussed
Still, there aren't many devices out there yet that can record and play 3D video. Nintendo's 3DS does have a slight advantage there even if it fails in connectivity and quality.
HTC EVO 3D is still pretty much the only other device doing 3D video. still, you can only watch them ON the device, so what's the point? I never take 3D videos anymore.
Hopefully it's 10 minutes per video recording.
10 minutes TOTAL or per video? It would be SICK if you could take in-game footage.
i am watch the confernace and its 10 minutes per video and stop animation?!
I can just tell that it's going to be god awful quality...
I still don't understand why you couldn't do recording from the start. The camera's are apparently able to do it, but yet Nintendo 3DS Recording has to be released via an update. o_O
@tendoboy1984 A couple of things you need to realize here. 720p isn't as great as people think in terms of megapixels (less than 1 megapixel actually). With the constant refresh rate for videos and the considerably small screen, viewing really shoudn't be a problem either.
Add to the fact that this is the only 3d video recording device (portable device) out there other than the EVO, which can't upload to Youtube as winter123 pointed out, those are some pretty substantial firsts when it comes to the market.
One more thing, the Vita is also being sold at a considerable loss to Sony (they'll be lucky to make money within 3 years on the hardware). It'd be more surprising if the hardware did suck in comparison to the 3DS hardware.
Meh. It's not a game, so not a big deal.
For what it's worth,what little I've used the camera has been pretty solid. I think some people have shaky hands.
Im happy with ten mins as long as it is each recording and not total, which I cant see why it wouldnt be. The total time 4 videos are on the Nintendo Video app is longer than 10 mins. There may just be a limit on size because of the YouTube upload because it might just take the same amount of time as the NintendoVideo downloads.
10 mins is fine for short video clips like birthdays and christmas etc. I dont plan on making any 3D movies anytime soon. lol
The 3DS is a toy--including the cameras--but that's not a bad thing. You're approaching the device entirely wrong if you expect to use it as a replacement for ordinary cameras. The point is merely to have fun with the 3D photography and videos, not to produce something serious or publishable.
I just watched the conference and didn't see anything about a Youtube app.
You can do stop motion animation, which is really cool.
That Guy in the picture is waaaay to happy!
I will be honest, I will give it a try when it get the firmware, but mostly likely won't use it after that.
@tendoboy
Are you sure? Last i read Vita has .3 MP camera too.
@komicZ
Vita has a 1.3 mp camera. Still not good, but better than the 3DS. Good cameras are just too much money to include.

Phones can get away with it because the price you pay for the phone isn't what it really costs. If I buy a iPhone 4s for $199 bucks, the cell carrier reimburses apple a large portion of that money. Additionally, apple also charges an additional 10 bucks per month on top of your cell bill to simply use the phone, thereby recouping their loss.
vita has two 0.3mp VGA cameras. check the wiki.
WHY IS THIS SYSTEM SO GOOOOOD. UUUGH
Up to ten minutes, nice, I think I might enjoy this
YOUTUBE? Look's like my channel will have some 3D goodness on it!
10 minutes! That's great! It's not like stupid old 3DS Sound, where you only get 10 seconds.
Hmmm...sounds interesting.
Why limiting to 10 seconds of sound? This is stupid.
Why limiting to 10 minutes of video? This is still stupid.
This should be the user's choice!! And worse: the camera has poor quality!
The camera is good enough and 10 minutes is good enough. The machine is not supposed to be a movie-making machine, it's a game system and this movie feature is an app. If you want to make a movie, make several 10 minute "scenes" or chapters. This app will likely be cheap or even free, so I'm not complaining. Who knows what kind of additional effects will come with it. I imagine there will be some simple basic effects, like the ability to employ the AR character cards while shooting, and even a few other simple effects. I would say this is the kind of thing Nintendo needs to "step it up" on. A video chat app, maybe Oovoo, would be nice as well.
thats kewll but 2 bad the cameras aren't hd
