Following the highly successful Japanese launch of the 3DS, Nintendo's hardware sales have been continually dominant as the handheld stays at the top of the charts after its first full week.
According to digital entertainment data tracker Media Create, the 3DS sold 374,764 units during the launch weekend of 26th February, and for the week running 28th February - 6th March, a further 209,623 consoles were sold. Although the figures show a decrease compared to the previous weekend, it's still a staggering number considering it dwarfs the combined sales of the other console systems ― the Playstation Portable trailed behind in second place with 76,246 units.
In terms of software, gamers spread themselves more thinly as half of the top ten consisted of PSP titles, with just three 3DS games making an appearance. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask sold 59,138 copies and secured a spot at #3. Nintendogs + Cats reached #5 with 44,699, and Samurai Warriors: Chronicles just managed to squeeze itself into the top ten with 30,112 copies. Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Ridge Racer 3D, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D just missed out, placing #11, #12 and #13 respectively.
Do you think the same games will have a repeat performance when they launch outside of Japan later this month?

Man, thats nuts!
I think PilotWings, Nintendogs, and Steel Diver will be pretty popular in other regions.
No surprises there, I'm just curious if it'll be sold out for months. Let's hope so, for Nintendo's sake. Oh and for the sake of getting awesome 3rd party exclusives.
Course it's gonna sell more than other units as a launch. Sales aren't a measure of quality though as the wii outsold the 360 and ps3.
That's pretty cool. Let's see what happens when other regions join in on the fun.
That's great news, however I wonder how will the recent events in Japan affect the gaming industry overall
Yeah! Go 3DS!
Eh? Only three games in the top ten? That doesn't seem like very many to me...
Still, it's good to see the 3DS itself is notching up sales
Yeah it doesn't seem like people bought more then one or maybe two games!
I soooo predicted this in another article.
Not too surprising - especially given how old the PSP was, it's not a fair comparison.
Is Japan seeing a lot of shortages? I think that's going to be a foreshadowing of what happens in the US.
These things are going to be impossible to find if you don't pre-order.
Nintendo dun struck gold.
again :3
Holy crud! That's incredible! America will practically eat the 3DS up!
@15 It is and the 3DS isn't even here yet. o__o
Who knows what happens for rest of the month though in japan? Sells might halt for a while though with what is going on now.
Not really surprising considering all the other consoles are literally years old now...
@tealovertoma: I actually hope they sell out for months. Otherwise I didn't really have a reason to preorder...
As everyone else has said: Well duh.
It's like saying the new Zelda sold more than Black Ops the week Zelda is released. Doesn't mean much, the other game is a lot older. lol.
"Do you think the same games will have a repeat performance when they launch outside of Japan later this month?"
No way! SSF IV's already doing extremely well with preorders! And hopefully plenty more titles make the Top 10 during the end of March/start of April!
Awesome!
All this info is just making me want to fast foward time by a week so we can all join in the fun. Can't wait to get my preordered 3DS
Now what next the Nintendo 3DS XL.
500,000 systems sold? thats so cool!
