The other day we reported on Shantae's European release date but we were unsure if that release date applied to Australia. Now we are sure: it doesn't.
The official Shantae Twitter account broke the bad news that the game will not reach Australia on Friday, February 11th, the date the download hits European download stores. Developer WayForward had this to say on its own Twitter page:
Ausi fans we hear you, but the recent announcement does not include Australia. We don't have a lot to say about an AU release at this point.
Looks like Australian gamers might have a long wait ahead of them.

Ouch.... sorry austrailia.
I wonder why?
That's a shame. This is some prime DSiWare. Hopefully you guys get it eventually....
I heard it's because the Australian rating system charges publishers a lot to rate their game.
Oh, I hope you get it soon, as it looks like such a good game.
thats what they get for getting a conduit 2 bonus pack
Is it possible to download it by changing the region on the DSi to UK?
Probably not, I think the region is set in the hardware and is not user selectable.
@Collision_Cat - You are correct there, however Nintendo of Australia offer a ratings service at a reduced price.
thats just sad. i just hope they have a good reason
First Pop Island, and now this? Sheesh, cut us some slack already!
I'm with Chibi Link, I've imported everything I own (except the PS3, which is region free gamewise) since the days of the Gamecube for this very reason. That, and everywhere else has it cheaper than us
Though I will bring to the attention of Chibi Link that it's not up to Nintendo of Australia on what DSiWare/VC/WiiWare gets released over here, Nintendo of Europe handle that. Nintendo of Australia only have control over retail games, which I thought was a retarded decision to release Punch-Out!! Wii only to JB HiFi.
i feel bad for every australian looking at this.its sad that you guys wont get a very great game.just hope you get it later on this year.
/shrug, even if it did come to Aus, I wouldn't buy it anyway, despite being an allegedly awesome game its way over priced @ $18AUD (given 1000 Nintendo points go for $15AUD & I'd have to buy 2000 to get the game, it's really spending $30AUD to get the required 1200 Ninty points).
It's actually the devision of the publishers what regions they want their games released into. They weigh up whether the additional costs will be covered by the additional sales and, sadly, a lot of them have past experience that says no they won't be and don't release.
I am actually angry about this and I'm not even Australian! Although I suppose it is hard for WayForward, or any dev for that matter, to release their games down under.
After all the devastating floods in Queensland and hurricane Yasi, not releasing "Shantae Risky's Revenge" is just cruel, cold-hearted and unexcusable. It's not like they are just ignoring a small country, Australia is a complete continent!
@SennaKurosaki: a video game isn't going to magically make everything better -- in fact, the comparison of Shantae not being released to the floods and typhoon is pretty insulting. Shantae not being released yet hasn't caused massive property damage, and it hasn't killed anyone either. :/
Fab news for Europe (this will be an insta-download for me ) but sucks for Australia. Hope it gets sorted soon.
EU s the same hardware as Austrailia. Easy. Just load some DSi points, change the country to UK under system settings, download the game, then switch back to AU.
@Chibi Link- I live in Australia and am wanting to import a 3DS at a reasonable price, however I want to get a European version so I can purchase Australian games rather than importing American ones. Do you know any websites where I can Import the European 3DS?
So, what's so good about this game? It looks nice.
@Bluesonic The Australian price is almost identical to the European price, so don't bother, unless you want Europe's 3DSWare release and VC titles.
@Aviator- Using a currency converter, including a shipping price one would save approximately 80 dollars, and buying 2 games with it would save 60 dollars more. I am all for buying games in Australia but I think the price of the 3DS is to high. And also Europe and Australia are in the same region lock on the 3DS so our content is identical.
