Though Nintendo's seeing its first profit decline in six years as we previously reported, their fiscal report isn't all bad news. Their home console hit a worldwide total of 70.93 million sales in its lifetime. Compare this to the 21.72 million units of GameCubes that sold before its time passed and just how big of a feat this is comes into focus.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, Nintendo admitted that its profit loss was due partially to their failure to release enough big titles in the first half of the year. Hopefully they'll learn from their lesson, and E3 is just around the corner. What suspense! How many more units can they sell?

Too bad sales are gonna drop soon... After everyone in the world gets a Wii!
Nintendo needs to fix some of its flaws in the Wii department. I believe the Wii has TONS of potential but they need to enforce quality control.
Another good idea would be to implement Motionplus into EVERY new Wiimote. This will promote Motionplus compatibility with all developers and greatly increase the Wii's sales and lifespan.
Wow...that's a lot! But too bad not many good games are selling on them.
Success well deserved.
Congrats Nintendo.
I swear, I still can't believe that those things are still selling...
Next up: trying to outsell the PS1
I can't believe it didn't sell more. It should be 150M.
w00t!
Well done, but I'm happier for what the DS has accomplished!
well deserved! and it keeps going!
Sweet. If everyone in the world gets a Wii, we might see the next console sooner..... KEEP ON BUYING THOSE WIIS PEOPLE!!!!!
Hopefully getting my Black Wii Sunday!
@Caliko
MotionPlus idea coming soon.....
It's very impressive considering they've been fighting against high-definition machines backed by a multi-billion dollar international consumer products conglomerate and an international software corporation with state, government and worldwide contracts (Sony and Microsoft). It's also ironic that attempts to compete in the high-tech race in the previous generation have nearly failed while taking the minimalist approach in the face of technologies such as the Blu-ray disc, 1080p, near-unrestricted collaboration between online gamers and massive internal capacities that we take for granted are classified as today's standards.
"Leave luck to Heaven" indeed.
Ohhhhh Microsoft and Sony just got oowwwned.
EDIT....
My Black Wii Ships Sunday!
I might add another to their sales if I break down and buy a black wii.
what is "wowza"? a big wow?
the wii will sell more because they release the wii sport resort with motion plus package in white and black wiis
@17: you can´t put your wii downloads in other wii, better save that money.
@19 Actually you can do some research
@20: No, you can't Only Nintendo can do it however
Nintendo sales will boost dramatically with the upcoming release of black Wii and Mario Galaxy 2. Nintendo will still be bringing home boatloads of profit for some time to come...
@21
Yea i knew that but i wanted him to figure out for himself. But then again if you remove the hard drive maybe u could do it by urself if ur smart with stuff like that.
The funny thing is, Mario isn't even actually under a ? block in that screenshot!
Oh, and yay for Wii sales. If only the SOFTWARE sold more...
