Most mobile phone games are pretty poor, hindered mainly by the terrible control systems sported by the majority of handsets out there right now. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule - and one of them is HandyGames's brilliant Townsmen series.
Speaking in a recent interview with PocketGamer.biz, HandyGames's top dog Christopher Kassulke had this to say:
It's just a matter of time until it will make a showing on other platforms. Building such a brand costs a lot of money and we want to make sure that it will be represented by a state-of-the-art product on other platforms. A simple port will not be what we are focusing on.
Although the above comment was aimed specifically at the iPhone, Kassulke was also asked about the chances of a DSiWare and PSP Minis release. His reply was cautious, but encouraging:
We will see how these platforms evolve. It's not HandyGames' core business. We are in talks with various developers and publishers to take our brands to these platforms, as well as others, but the development in these cases will be done by someone else. We will only make sure that brand integrity is maintained.
Townsmen 6 has recently been released and is - by all accounts - pretty damned special. It would certainly make a solid addition to the DSiWare lineup.

Not allowed anymore MoFaJo.
I thought this was a game about townsmen getting hit by mobiles. I need to read more.
Hmmm, I may check it out on mobile, but I don't put much stock in PocketGamer reviews, since they gave KuBoS a '6'. And skimming through the Townsmen review, they claim it's a match for a PC game... which seems a rather lofty claim.
Not that I have a way to deny these claims at present. Has anyone here played Townsmen though?
@drdark - You don't trust Pocket Gamer?
Did you see who wrote the Townsmen 6 review...?
Ah... whoops. Better grab all the cutlery before I'm banned then! whoosh
Well, I still don't agree with the KuBoS review. It's neck and neck with GTA for my fave DS game of '09. I'd give it a 9/10 and only loses as point due to the lack of some built in way to compare scores online (my highest stands at 1.4mil for the 10-floor mode).
Anyways, guess I'd better check out townsmen then!
Kubos is seriously overrated, IMO. Sure, it's not bad, but it gets old really quickly, there's not much variety in modes and the camera angles leave quite a bit to be desired.
Also, is it just me or does the screen above look like something similar to Locks Quest?
