First up is Taito’s arcade classic Chase HQ, represented here by the TG-16/PC Engine conversion. Sadly, this isn’t a brilliant port of the coin-op original and even hardcore fans of the game are likely to be bitterly disappointed.
Sadly, SNK’s Art of Fighting 2 isn’t much better. It’s a definite improvement over the previous game in the series and showcases some gorgeous graphics, but it simply can’t hold a candle to the likes of Street Fighter 2 and is therefore only really recommended for hardcore fighting fans.
Not a brilliant week for VC gamers, to be honest. The selection isn't much better on WiiWare this week as Pong Toss is up today also.

Yay! Seems like we are back to a 2 games a week pattern again, even if these particular games aren't that great. That means we can count on eight titles next month. My guesses:
-Break In (Confirmed)
-Star Parodier (Confirmed)
-Ys Books I & II (Confirmed)
-Samurai Shodown II (Confirmed)
-Neo Turf Masters (Very Likely)
speculative
-Splatterhouse 2
-Sonic the Hedgehog MS
-Mega Man
EDIT: Appearantly, SNK Playmore USA has sent out a press release confirming Samurai Shodown II for release on August 4th so I adjusted my predictions accordingly above.
That's a positive way to look at it. I guess the sun will come out tomo.... er, next week.
Not a brilliant week for VC gamers, to be honest.
I'll agree with this.
If I say anything else,
I'll be chased by angry people with torches and pitchforks.
Edit: I wanted Neo Turf Masters too.
Looks like I'll have to start the bitchfest this week... Here goes:
Bah! I was actually kind of hoping for Neo Turf Masters as it seems like the perfect compliment to the midsummer doldrums... And of all the racing games to release, why Chase HQ... Why?!
Finally, I'm an MMA fighter who appreciates the art of fighting (along with fighting games, in general) and even I have no interest in the Art of Fighting series.
Whoohoo! Another second rate Neo Geo Fighter! I was really worried that Nintendo was starting to ignore the fans of terrible Street Fighter clones. That's a dangerous demographic to neglect, you know?
@ el cabarto-
Did you read the article? The term "hardcore" was used twice.
Are you still going to deny it's existence?
Well I don't see anything I want
@SuperMario: Yep, it's still a made up term with no unified definition when it comes to video games. In my mind it implies a lonely addiction to video games and an eventual realization by the 'hard core' gamer that they will one day be 40 with no marketable skills and an impressive gut.
In my mind
Bingo, you got it.
The rest is just a foolish assumption, which probably never happens.
Enjoying video games among work, my social life, and my girlfriend, don't make me heavily addicted with an impressive gut.
I play tennis, golf, and paintball way more than I play video games.
You're just assuming anyone that likes playing video games is addicted, fat, and stupid. Which is as the most baseless assumption you'll ever see.
No suprises here. I like arcade racers hopefully Outrun will follow soon. I am guessing Mega man and Neo Turf Masters will come out next monday. I think Phantasy Star 4 may also come in August
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Now that that's out of my system, I can go ahead to tell you that THIS WEEK IS BORING!!
Where's my SMRPG? My Earthbound? My SMK? Where's ANY of the Pilotwings series? How bout some nice imports like Mario's Super Picross? Art of Fighting is okay, but why do these companies give us trash when we fork over our hard earned money? I'm also pretty sure we're gonna see a boatload of crap the next week too.
I'm just really irritated at NOA. I know they can't release blockbusters every week, but when was the last time they released something TRULY noteworthy?
Another lost VC week. At least the TG-16 has made a return.
Bland week, but it is indeed good to see 2 games released consistently now...
Guess I got my hopes to high with last week's announcement. And I was thinking we were through with Neo Geo fighters :S
@SuperMario: Before you try to have an 'Ahaa!' moment read the rest of what I said. The bit about 'There is no unified definition'. That means that chic annoying made up terms like 'Hard Core Video Gamer' are open to interpretation. Seriously, the last week has had almost everyone on this site try to come up with an actual definition of the term and no one has said exactly the same thing as the next guy. I'd postulate that since there is little that is both 'hard core' and 'healthy and well advised' that being a 'Hard Core Gamer' could hardly be a compliment.
The first level of HQ was fun but then every level after seems almost identical...
"And of all the racing games to release, why Chase HQ... Why?!"
Hey, it could have been worse. You might have had Rad Racer if Square was copping in more frequently, and we're already tortured enough as it is with SPOGS gracing the WiiWare.
But yeah, not a brilliant week all around. Usually I'd say "let's wait til next week" and so on and so forth, but with three weak titles all around, what the heck is going on with Nintendo of America?
@ Nobarai
Errrr.... Last week when you got the amazing Super Fantasy Zone and Gley Lancer. You may as well have posted "Wah Wah Wah, I'm a spoilt brat who will scream the mall down until my mommy gives me my own way"
I think you guys need a bit of a reality check here. There are tons of really good games out there on the VC, and if there are none that you want then you aren't forced to spend your points, they wont expire overnight, you just need to be patient. You lot would kill yourselves if you lived in the EU, We had to wait 4 months for Brawl, around the same for MP:3 and pretty much any game that comes out for the Wii. And before someone says how long they've been waiting for a particular VC game, I'm talking about games already out and being played in another region, and yes I know we have Mega Man.
As for the Hardcore debate, I think you have 4 categories to look at. There is a big difference between a person who plays a game with a degree of difficulty for a few hours and someone who plays World of Warcraft 20 hours a day. Then there is the person who will play any crap that's churned out by their chosen favourite publisher and finally the person who bought a Wii as it looked cool, plays it once every 3 months or so and buys the crap like Wii Sports Party and Beach Sports because they look a bit like Wii Sports.
As for the games this week, well Chase HQ is a classic, I don't care what score it gets, Art of Fighting 2 may not be SFII but hell it got more than 2 stars from VC-R for a Neo Geo Game so it's a sure fire winner (To be fair I have this game on the VC and it's a pretty good fighter, better than Fatal Fury but no Street Fighter)
I've no wish for the Wii Ware game but I'm sure there's a market for it out there.
Haha, for once I'm more optimistic than Rexy about waiting for next week! With Y's and all the Hudson games promised for August I think that this week is just a weak prelude to awesome.
I'd agree with sadpanda212's categories..
And playing WoW 20 hours a day would definitely be obsessive.
I don't even see how people afford to play WoW.
You know people, plenty of fighters on the Neo Geo surpassed pretty much all of the Street Fighter games. I'm a hardcore fighting fan, playing most of all fighters that has ever existed. Street Fighters are great fighters, but they are doggone sure no where near the best. So all those hating on Neo Geo fighters needs to open your eyes. Neo Geo has two fighters that surpass any of the Street Fighters we have on the VC (Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters 94).
Art of Fighting 2 is a great game, and I'm sure that many would actually like better than Street Fighter 2.
@ El.
The average gaming age is 32. So gaming at 40 aint so bad.
And you can be a part time hardcore gamer. Full hardcore is playing all the time and playing hardcore games. Part time is playing hardcore games whenever you have the chance to game.
And most if not all hardcore gamers won't be insulted by you saying the above. Nor will they come to this sudden realisation that they're "wasting" there lives. So I wouldn't waste my breath. Especially if you're holding out to be thanked for stopping someone gaming.
As far as I'm concerned, life's to short & you only get one, so enjoy it. If you like living on the edge, go for it. If you like working, go for it. If you like chillin', chill.
Just don't be an ass to others and make out that you're better than they are.
Ouch bad week. Bad week for me too since i was expecting Chase HQ to get a great review from VC-R. Guess i was kinda interested in the game since ONM had a feature on the Turbographx and it got mentioned as one of the games to look out for.
@ Slang.
You do realise that everyones opinions are different, right?
Also, read the review. It doesn't match the score at all.
Your comment on me made me laugh Sadpanda.
I had no problems with last weeks release. Both games were decent shooters for the Genesis. They didn't release anything that people have wanted for months though. And before that, with the release of Donkey Kong 3, we all wanted something different. And it has been that way all summer long. We want something, and Nintendo releases something else that's decent, but not what we wanted. I have a reason to gripe, Chase H.Q is short and frusterating, Art of Fighting 2 will kill you then rape you (I haven't played Chase H.Q, I have played all of the Art of Fighting series).
At least I'm not whiny enough to make comments like "oh that is it blah blah blah, I'm gona sell my Wii THIS time bcuz Nintendo didn't let us download that one game blah blah blah".
Oh, and if you complain that games are relased too long over there in Britain, why don't you just move to America? We speaka your language AND we get games released faster than you. Our games also run at 60hz!
All I'm saying is that this week's games are terrible, just like the last couple weeks of games, and if you want me to stop complaining, just ask.
Now not to sound rude, but I've gotta leave now, I need to get ready for my dentist appointment, which is at ten.
Pearly whites yay!
@Demon 212: I'm not trying to perform any public service and change people's lives. Just participating in the same debate as the rest of you. I thank you for bolstering one of my main points though, that being that there isn't an actual definition of 'Hard Core Video Gamer'. Also I haven't been an 'ass' to anyone and I haven't compared myself to anyone here. I don't have a clue about your personal lives.
@Super Mario: There is something we can agree upon. I don't understand the appeal of playing an hour of World of Warcraft much less the massive blocks of time some people throw at that game. I've seen marriages fail, people lose their jobs, security clearances get yanked, and children being neglected because of WoW. Last I checked, only Chu Chu Rocket was a game worthy of ruining your life over.
Sigh...another average week.
Another crappy week.
Yeah, I saw an article on Yahoo a while back on how some guy's marriage fell apart because he was addicted to WoW.
I think Demon is right in saying people should do what they love, but video games should take a backseat to more important endeavors.
I agree about the H.Q. review too.
Corbie praised the visuals, the music, and parts of the gameplay.
It didn't really sound like a 2...
Wow thankfully I pre-order the SNK Arcade Collection! it'll really make up for this weeks severe lack of quality. I have high hopes for August.
I might actually get Art of Fighting 2... I remember playing it at the arcade... having a full emu version of it at home is still kind of cool to me.
And for the whole hardcore gamer definition thing... there may be some grey area but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's kind of like art - I know it when I see it.
@x.SuperMario.x
sometimes a game has all the right components, but they don't blend correctly and create a mediocre game, that may be the case with H.Q.
Meh, it's major criticism was that it hasn't aged well.
Well it's been 20 years, surely you have to take it for what it is.
"there isn't an actual definition of 'Hard Core Video Gamer'."
From what? Like, the encyclopedia?
A lot of people use the term "hardcore game/gamer" (magazines, websites, game stores, etc.) and they seem to more or less understand what each other is talking about. For all intents and purposes, then, it has a functional definition.
. . . is that okay?
Otherwise, gaming isn't the only hobby that's known to be harmful in excess, is it?
Weak week! I didn't even buy Chase HQ when the TurboGrafx 16 was my only console.
The TG-16 in general is rather overrepresented compared to the other consoles (the SNES has a library of some 700 games, while the TG-16 has just over a hundred, I believe). They're about to release an import of an old Pool simulator (Break In), right?
I think that's why. Hudson loves the VC.
@ cally
The tg-16 library has over 700 games in Japan.
Hudson has a chance to import a good deal of games to North America.
@ Nobarai.
Yeah but your government hates Autistics and wouldn't let me or my brother in (Not Panda), otherwise I'd be in Colorado like a shot. AVS RULE!
And actually I like to think of it more as, you butchered our language, rather than speak it
@ SM.
That's how I take all my retro gaming. You've gotta think "Well it was made 20 years ago on an 8 bit console" sometimes.
"The tg-16 library has over 700 games in Japan"
Wow. I knew it was more in Japan but I didn't know it was that high.
@ DEMON - You ain't got none of a right to be sayin we done butchered yer language!
On another note, I don't have oodles of money hanging around waiting to be spent, so it's not like I've even touched the huge catalogue of VC games already released. So, the releases have been bad recently...go back and try something you may have missed when it came out.
Nothing I want again this week.
But that works out alright for me, because I've become strangely addicted to Chocobo's Dungeon
Damnit! Seriously, Nintendo of America, you can do better than this! There are THOUSANDS OF GOOD GAMES YOU CAN RELEASE! But you don't! Step it up!
@ Konker.
Lol. And exactly.
@ Mega.
These are good games.
@North99
Haha I agree, I bought that out of the blue last week, it's sooo addicting!
And to comment on this week, it's ok. I won't buy anything, not my cup of tea. I'm just looking forward to August, that should be a great month for VC! Star Parodier may be my first VC purchase since Pokemon Puzzle League
@Mega
It's licensing problems, pure and simple. Think about how many game companies have gone defunct or been bought up or just vanished in the interim time? Figuring out who owns the rights to collect any kind of income from these older titles has got to be like figuring out the Gordian's knot. Then there are royalties to pay out to artists, music composers, copyright holders. It's not as easy as 'hey, Super Mario RPG would be a great VC game. Let's throw it out there tomorrow!'. And that's not even taking into account the fact that Nintendo is probably dealing with a huge backlog of companies that have petitioned to have their games posted to VC. We're just getting these games today but who is to say they weren't submitted for VC a whole year ago? Like a lot of people have said, odds are there is a great game in the VC archive that you haven't finished yet. Tell the people who post to this site what you like and I bet you'll get some great suggestions. Anything that you haven't downloaded yet is new to you, right?
I would kinda like more "catch-up weeks" so that Europe and America have the same games - okay, Tecmo Bowl may not appeal to many Europeans but its got to be more playable to us than City Connection is, right? I don't see why Europe and America has games released over twelve months ago that the other has yet to see.
@ DEMON212
The United States government hates autistic people? What the hell are you talking about?
Some people don't have the ability to buy every VC and have to be more careful about what they download. To those people these games are not good.
Damnit! Seriously, Nintendo of America, you can do better than this! There are THOUSANDS OF GOOD GAMES YOU CAN RELEASE! But you don't! Step it up!
Well... look at it this way: With each "poor" week like this, the closer you are to Nintendo being forced to release good games. There's only a finite number of retro games available to the Virtual Console, remember. We've seen the last of the average Art of Fighting games - I do believe the third in the trilogy will be worthy a of a download. I'll be getting AoF3 for sure.
@dk_xcalibur
I agree. I can't afford to spend money on games every week. (yea its like 10 bucks or less but still) Plus, even if I bought a new game every week, there is no way I would ever have the time to play them all. I am sticking to games that I know for a fact are great or ones that come HIGHLY reccommended. I have no need to download "decent" or "fairly good" games. I am not made of money nor do I have the ability to stop time - but I sure wish I was and could!!
Well I was initially annoyed at this weeks releases and REALLY wanted to go on an angry rant, but then i thought "Why, what are the people here going to do that has any more influence over nintendo than me?". So I sat down and watched some of my Mr.Bean DVD'S (god that show's hilarious)
It's unfortunate to hear Chase H.Q. hasn't aged as well from the last time I played in the arcade. I was ready to purchase the game and all too.
Oh well it may seem like a crap week but at least NA can look onward for future releases like Strong Bad, Star Parodier, Ys Book I and II. Maybe even Shining Force II. It's been a year, dang it. =P
yay for mr. bean
WARNING FOR THOSE WHO HATE COMPLAINERS! SKIP FIRST PARAGRAPH
Well, I have some steam to let out after the WiiWare release. First, I expected to get nothing I would like this week and I didn't. Both games scored average or worse on this website and I don't expect much better from other sites. I'm not going to buy them. Both games suck in my opinion. I hate them terribly just by looking at them. May they burn eternally.
Hoo boy, I feel a lot better now. Well, now for my better half. I'm glad we got two games again, always a good sign. I'm not even bothered by these games as much as I am about the WiiWare release. August looks to be stellar anyway, so I'll hold onto my Wii points for a brighter day. We also finally got the first of many Turbografx games to come!
Edit: To keep up my little hobby, last year's games at this time were Dynamite Headdy, Star Soldier, and Drop off. I haven't played any of these games so I wouldn't know if any of them are better than this year's offerings, so I'll just leave it at that.
@PHANTOM93, comment #50: Valid point, except I'm too busy at my work experience placement to even care. Similarly I get more of the urge to curl up with all the old games (i.e. what I have that dates before 2004) that I still have, make a random selection and just let my mind escape from the whole thing. And yes, Mr Bean rocks
Another lame week. And on top of that, they aren't even lame games from Nintendo systems. All but like two games in the past couple months have been Sega, Turbo Grafix, or Neo Geo. What's with that?
I tolerate the fact that the releases across the board are lame, but again, what's with just sticking with Nintendo all the time? What happened to last week's Super Fantasy Zone and Gley Lancer? Consoles are just consoles - if the games are not very good, then they should rather be seen as bad games, not "bad games on inferior consoles" or something.
@ Rexy #54
I hear that! Since I figured out how to use my DOS emulator I've been playing my dad's old PC games from the early 90's (thank goodness he kept the installation CD'S) (for those of you who are wondering it DOES NOT use game ROM'S it uses the original software)
The Art of Fighting series just never really lived up to the hype. Art of Fighting 3 is the only decent game in the series, and even it has so many game play flaws that it would be difficult to recommend it.
@Nobarai
Wait were you trying to say noone was looking forward to Super Fantasy Zone or Gley Lancer? Cause thats definately not true...
Even still, I dont understand why it matters if people want it beforehand for it to be considered good. Most people dont know what they want. If a game shows up that you dont know anything about you shouldnt immediately dismiss it, but rather look into the matter and see what the game is like.
"It's licensing problems, pure and simple."
Really? There are titles like Earthbound, Tetris Attack and many others that are developed by Nintendo. Of course, there's no way somebody's been slaving away over a Kirby's Dreamland 3 emulation ever since it got an ESRB rating months ago (along with other stuff). What kind of licensing issues would be there?
@Rexy: You just gave me an interesting thought on the importance of perspective when determining nostalgia value for games. You mention that you like to curl up with your old games and provide pre-2004 as a reference. For me it'd be pre-1994. As the number of years that modern video games have been around grows it's going to be interesting to see how we come to define 'classic gaming'.
@Cally : the legal rights for Tetris have never actually been determined and there are lawsuits in place over almost all versions of Tetris released to date. Earthbound wasn't developed by Nintendo 'in-house'. It was a second party game produced by, I believe, the same studio that is responsible for that kirby game you mentioned. So there may be permissions or royalties involved that we don't know about. Also keep in mind that the publisher of a game and the developer of a game aren't always the same company but they still both would have certain rights when it comes to subsequent reproductions of the product. The level of transparency in VC publishing is nil. We don't know what transpires to get a game to show up in the shopping channel.
keep up the crap, nintendo
At least we get a TG-16 game. It's been awlie since we got one. The longest drought now is a N64 game.
I agree with some others. Excited that there is another TurboGrafx-16 game. But disappointed that it was Chase HQ.
I don't remember who said it bu they have a good point: Nintendo will eventually run out of crap/average games and have to release something good. And before someone says "stop being optimistic you'll just get disappointed" here's something to support it: Nintendo is obviously stretchign out its VC and Wiiware so that it can continue to release it through the Wii's lifespan. This means that it has to stretch good games too. Thus, we will likely get some good ones, espeicially towards the end of the lifespan as Nintendo runs out of time (unless the Wii2 also has VC, etc. in which case this logic may be destroyed.) This is speculation but something to think about. Anyway, bland week, but we did get 2 VCs again, which is good. Last week was pretty good. If i had extra points and had more shmup experience I might've gotten one.
@Rexy
"I tolerate the fact that the releases across the board are lame, but again, what's with just sticking with Nintendo all the time?"
You have to understand that many of the Americans on these forums are hardcore Nintendo fans. There are plenty of hardcore gamers in the United States who aren't Nintendo fans, but they don't own Wiis. The Wii is fast becoming a joke in the gaming community over here.
Wait, what?
What community are you a part of?
The Wii isn't "fast becoming a joke".
That post is full of so much fail.
And "over here"?
Don't refer to your bedroom as the entire United States.
@x.SuperMario.x
No, it was Nintendo's E3 press conference that was so much fail! There's hardly anything coming out for the Wii! I don't know about you, but I buy game systems for the games!
You stooped to a personal attack. Not cool.
No personal attack, you're just wrong.
There was nothing wrong with Nintendo's E3 conference.
Anyone should be able to understand that.
And we have nothing coming?
There's more interesting titles coming soon for my Wii, than there are for my PS3.
Regarding the Wii's release schedule for the remainder of the year, I kinda agree with firebrand. I'm not enthused about the majority of the system's upcoming titles, so instead I am going to catch up on a few Wii games that I have missed. (Oh yeah, and play LOTS and LOTS of Advance Wars).
Do I need to separate you guys?
There was PLENTY wrong with Nintendo's E3 this year. See the difference between a good E3 and a bad E3 is this:
Good E3: We all cheerfully talk about how awesome Nintendo is.
This years E3: Miyamoto makes an apology on his company's behalf 3 days later.
Ohs noes, someone is confused.
Miyamoto apologized fans weren't satisfied with Nintendo's goal at E3.
What was Nintendo's goal?
To satisfy the shareholders, the businessmen, etc.
Did Nintendo do that?
Absolutely.
And then after, Miyamoto confirms another Pikmin, and reassures everyone that their development teams are hard at work.
What did you want them to do?
Miyamoto said he doesn't want to show the games until he thinks they're ready.
I don't see the problem.
Miyamoto waits until the game is almost finished before they show everybody? Sounds good to me.
Better than Sony, "Hey everyone, these games will be coming out in the next five years, enjoy!"
Besides, we finally get voice chat, and nobody cares.
We get an add-on that can potentially lead to some spectacular games, and nobody cares.
Sometimes, people just need to be patient. Nintendo will show you what you want, when they want.
We play by their rules, not ours.
@ Corbie- You'd have to separate me from a few people on this site...
But how are you enjoying Pong Toss?
Nintendo's first party devs have put out some great games already, arguably moreso than its competition. Wouldn't it be nice if third parties picked up the slack right about now, like they haven't on a Nintendo console since the SNES?
I agree.
We've already seen most of Nintendo's franchise titles.
Luckily, 3rd party seems to be improving.
MadWorld, The Conduit, etc.
There's a few very interesting games coming up.
I'd like to see Nintendo hire more companies as first party developers to revitalise old, "forgotten" games. Nintendo has an expansive back catalogue of games that are potential franchises. Kid Icarus is supposedly in development, but what if we saw updates of such games like Mach Rider, Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, and StarTropics? Who would need third-party developers if Nintendo breathed life into all these games (note: exaggeration was used to make a point)?
Edit: And the Runner rides again. I was just giving the name for the sequel...And yeah, my wishes probably won't happen, but we can't forget Nintendo has "lent" its characters before. Good ol' Rare...
I think you mean Mach Rider.
But I'm sure Nintendo has their hands full at the moment. And hiring more developers might not exactly meet their best interest.
Besides, Nintendo is so secretive, I don't think they like flaunting their ideas with a bunch of people.
@Corbie
Nah. It's okay. This is a stupid thing to fight over.
@x.SuperMario.x
MadWord and The Conduit do look promising, but they're not coming out until 2009. What do I have to look forward to this year? DeBlob and Wario Land are all that come to mind.
The best solution for everyone would be, I think, a VC release schedule such as this:
1. mediocre to ok titles together: five in one VC week. These titles individually only appeal to a limited group of gamers who'll buy out of nostalgia, curiosity (or bad taste). More gamers will be satisfied.
2. big HITTERS: one in one VC week. These games have almost universal appeal, most gamers will be satisfied.
3. good titles: two in one VC week.
This way, lousy or games with a limited audience get cleared up faster and more people will be happy with the catalog.
I don't think Nintendo's E3 was bad. It was underwhelming, but I know that Nintendo is still developing big name titles. I thought Wii music and Wii sports 2 looked very good. Why is Animal crossing never considered a hardcore gamers title? There is a lot of depth to the game. I mean when you buy an Animal Crossing game, it will take over a year (maybe 2 years) to do everything in the game. In fact the orginal AC is like the first Virtual console.
@Firebrand
Here's what I'm looking forward to for Wii this year: Samba de Amigo, Sam and Max Season One and the new Tales of Symphonia! Not bad, not bad at all.
@Tony You know what the problem with AC is, though? if you played one, you've played them all. I beat (as much as you CAN beat) the GCN one and have no interest in the DS and Wii ones because they don't add much. Yes voice chat and WIFI, but you're still doing the same things. I would like new actions/things to do, but they haven't added anything like that...
@Objection_Blaster
Absolutely! I'm also underwhelmed by AC, if it turns out the game starts with doing chores for Tom Nook AGAIN I won't even consider a purchase. Also, the game can take you years to just upkeep your village, but you can pretty much reach the major goal in a two weeks, apart from catching some season-bound insects and fish.
@SuperMario: Haha, E3 is about shareholders? No, that's called 'quarterly earnings reports' and 'annual shareholders meetings'. You know, those things where they tell investors about their investments? Nintendo isn't even publicly traded in the United States! Why would they do something for shareholders in California!? Here's a question: Who gets invited to E3? Retail officials and the video game press. Who do they sell stuff and report stuff too? Fans of video games. Nintendo had an empty E3 this year and Miyamoto apologized afterwards. It was a good call on his part because Nintendo is finally back in competition as a console developer and they can't afford to alienate anyone like they have so often in the recent past.
@ Terran.
He (Forget who, look above) said move to the U.S when we said it sucks living here game wise. I said can't as I'm Aspergers & my bro is Autistic. And the U.S and Can governments are evil towards the above.
Just do the research and you'll be horrified.
My older bro was trying to arrange a Va-Kay to Colorado and was told that I may be denied an entry VISA due to the Aspergers.
Also, when you say suffer, explain. Like actual suffering or just poor choice of words?
Because it's not a disease.
"Nintendo had an empty E3 this year and Miyamoto apologized afterwards. It was a good call on his part because Nintendo is finally back in competition as a console developer and they can't afford to alienate anyone like they have so often in the recent past."
-Too little, Too late... again.
At least Myamoto is rich... and ready to retire.
@Will: Sad but true. With the wii's install base being so utterly amazing Nintendo should have 50 A-list games on tap to release this year. The N64 era and it's alienating of every single 3rd party developer is constantly coming back to haunt big N. Gamecube was (arguably) the most capable system of the last generation but it had almost no games. It's looking like the Wii may end up in a similar (albeit more financially successful) situation if Capcom, Square, Konami, and the other big hitters don't line up behind it.
Also, I guess you're right. Miyamoto must be stinking, filthy, atrociously rich. I mean, the guy made Mario! But in every interview I've ever seen he just seems like some quiet guy who's just happy to be talking to people.
Nintendo should have 50 A-list games on tap
Oh god.
/credibility
And yes, E3 is for businessmen, Nintendo, and E3, have already said so.
It's not the E3 is used to be. That's why E3 is practically dead.
@el calberto, comment #62: I suppose it can be said that way. It's been 40 years since we've been introduced to Pong, and as people grow, views on nostalgia are going to be completely different. Most people here have been around since the NES days and tend to reflect at around that era. Some people I know only just started joining in at the middle of the Nintendo 64's duration. Myself, I only just started in the early 90s, which is how I seemed to label 2004 as a threshold on how far back to end up going. I could say any system at least two generations behind can be seen as "retro" these days, but this view might be different from person to person.
@firebrand: Nothing to do with the Wii being a joke at all (even though I still feel it's not at that status just yet), but there's one more thing being forgotten here - die hard Sega/Hudson/SNK fans don't have anywhere else to go now that their respective companies aren't distributing their own consoles anymore. I might be a little more open-minded on the issue since I started out with Sega consoles and all, but I at least understand how Nintendo has built its reputation in the past.
After reading Demon212's comments...
It's referred to as Asperger Syndrome. And the other, Autistic Disorder. So I hope nobody refers to them as diseases.
But Demon, come to Florida. We don't hate, or discriminate.
@ el cabarto & will
I don't think Wii is anywhere near dying. The next gen consoles are rather new and like I already and always say, developing grade A games takes time. Now, considering the Wii proposes a radical paradigm shift (i.e. shifting from a purely graphical paradigm to a gameplay/control paradigm), it's no wonder there are fewer top ranking games from third parties: there's the new controls and they try to make the best out of it. Give them some time. Capcom, Square, Konami & al. are already behind the Wii. I expect lots of exclusive titles from them and I'm sure they'll have great titles to offer in a short time. Just give developers some time to adapt.
In this context, I see the VC as a bonus, some (mixed) bones thrown at us to keep us busy while waiting.
@Mario, comment #90: I wouldn't refer to them as diseases or anything - just alterations to one's personality that makes them weak in a certain area of communications or knowledge. I should know this because I blame AS for continuously being turned down for job interviews over the course of the past year. >.>
I'm still ok though, removing the AS part of you is like removing the fruit portion in its entirety from a trifle - even if you take it out, the result would look like a gooey mess.
@SuperMario: I'd be interested to see where you derive this idea that only 'business men' (could you be more vague?) go to E3. I guess the overwhelming amount of news on the event from Gamespot, IGN, EGM, Nintendo Power, Kotaku, etc gave me the wrong impression. Or the fact that Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Capcom, etc all held 'Press Conferences' where members of the gaming press community were invited to ask questions. Could that be a misnomer? Also, take a look at Nintendos historic release schedules from the old NES and SNES era when they had the full (albeit slightly coerced) support of the game development community. That support was the reason the libraries for Nintendo's systems grew so fast back then. More support = more titles on tap. Less support = Gamecube and N64. If they had 90's style levels of 3rd party support coupled with the ease of developing for the Wii it'd be highly realistic to expect 50 decent titles in development.
@Kultist: Oh, I by no means think the Wii is in danger of dying. Nintendo has diversified so well in the Wii's infrastructure that they are solidly entrenched. I'm just talking about way third party developers have had their enthusiasm for Nintendo's recent consoles fade rapidly after the first couple years.
May I direct you to this article
"There was a palpable sense of frustration at the structure and logistics from all participants, from publishers like ourselves to the working press and financial analysts," Moore wrote.
E3 is for the businessmen.
And no console has 50 AAA games on tap, so quit your whining.
Buy all three consoles, and a high end PC, then you might have 50 AAA titles coming your way.
It's even called the E3 Media and Business Summit.
What the hell?
If you even knew it's name, you'd know you were wrong.
Here
Read under 2007 restructure.
Read about how they got rid of the gamers, and now people can only come if invited.
Learn what E3 is, then come and try to present a somewhat better argument.
Isn't the media a business? They don't let most people in E3 anymore, except News people and Businessmen, so I'm going to agree with SuperMario on this one.
E3 is certainly not the spectical it once was, that's for sure. I don't know why you guys are even debating the purpose of E3 anymore. Nintendo themselves said that it was no longer a venue to unveil core titles. According to them, E3 is an event that is covered by all sorts of media and not JUST video game journalists and because of that Nintendo feels it's best to focus on thier expanded audience titles there instead. Makes sense to me. So that pretty much closes the case right there, wouldn't you say?
I'd also like to add that those of you who are convinced Nintendo isn't working on anymore "core" titles, are out of your minds. Nintendo has teams devoted to JUST Zelda games and JUST Mario games and it pretty much goes without saying that they're working on new entries in those series (not to mention Nintendo reiterated that point multiple times during E3). And YES, Mario and Zelda games are core titles.
Easy there, SuperMario. There's no need whatsoever to call him dumb. It comes off as petty, and it undermines your credibility.
@ Andrew- Fixed.
And Rapadash6 explains everything.
I agree Nintendo may use E3 just for casual gamers and will talk about other titles( hopefully Kid Icarus) at other venues. I think from now on people will expect that from E3.
Also its nice to another racer added to the VC. Lets get some more!
@ SM.
It wasn't a Colorado thing, it was a U.S.A thing.
Oh, I don't know a thing about it.
Haha, boy SM, you get worked up really easily! I'm almost taken aback at how fiercely you're arguing a point completely based on semantics. If you'd go so far as to actually read what I've said to you I think you'd realize you're arguing my point. I'll only go so far as to point out that I never mentioned anything about gamers being in attendance at the E3 in question, E3 2008 (press and retail representatives by invite, I said), that a press conference is still a press conference irregardless of an abbreviated, truncated, and conveniently alliterated name (ergo, E3), and that I haven't whined at all about the Wii's or any consoles upcoming line-up. I've just said that if it was like the good ol' days for Nintendo that things would be different. I'm going to leave you alone because you're getting angry for no reason and I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with you.
I'd be interested to see where you derive this idea that only 'business men' (could you be more vague?) go to E3.
You said E3 is for gamers. I explained how E3 is for businessmen. Now somehow I'm arguing your point?
You completely change your stance on everything, you're worse than a presidential candidate.
You criticized the Wii for not having enough games coming soon, and now, you say you just wish it were like the "good ol' days".
Find a point, and stick with it.
And what's wrong with me?
I'm simply trying to correct you. I hate seeing someone so utterly wrong.
I mean, just look at this article, not a single person has agreed with anything you've said.
Demon said it best. Just don't be an ass to others and make out that you're better than they are.
You try to spin your opinion as fact, and force it upon others.
We've already had to explain to you "hardcore" gamers exist..
How many times can you be wrong until you stop thinking you're right all the time?
Post #84. It's the point I made and stuck to the entire time. Everything I've said to you is derived from that. You were the one that said that E3 was about 'shareholders and business men'. Then in post #94 that you revealed the identity of your 'business men' by quoting someone else. And who were these business men of yours? The video game press and 'Financial Analysts' (Also known as people interested in the retail of video games).
Edit: I had a lot more typed here but SM isn't worth the effort. Honestly I don't understand what his problem is or why he's so obsessed with me. And I'm tired of trying to understand. I'd rather just discuss the games, not deal with him. I can only be mis-quoted, hounded for semantic nonsense, and called names so many times before I draw conclusions about people. SM when you calm down enough to be rational and polite, feel free to engage me in conversation. Until then do everyone here a favor and drop it.
LOL. I completely understand why Demon hates people who constantly complain.
If people are so dissatisfied with Nintendo, and feel they have to tell everyone how bad Nintendo has become, they should buy another console.
People need to learn, Nintendo doesn't work around their interests.
If you don't like it, tough luck, Nintendo and everyone else couldn't care.
Then, you can join PS3 and 360 fanboys, as they have their annual rant on how much "teh Wii suckzz!!11".
As for what el cabarto said.
Here's a translation, "Once I find a point someone might agree with, I'll get on VC-R and fight all those people that proved me wrong! But right now, nobody agrees with my odd little opinions, so let's drop it."
Besides, you clearly insulted people a lot more than I insulted you. Demon's never told me to stop being an ass.
So maybe the rational and polite thing should work both ways...
I think it would be nice if both of you would end your insignificant little 'feud' and start to act like adults.
It's already over.
But there'll just be more complaining about Nintendo next article.
Every news story someone different steps up, and claims their dissatisfaction with Nintendo.
Until that stops, nobody here is acting like an adult.
I've done my fair share of complaining, but after realizing how annoying it can be, I've tried to cut down. If everyone stopped complaining about Nintendo, VC-R would be better for it.
There will surely be complainers next week, as there will be every week. Though it isn't right, some people complain hear simply to start conflict. It is best to look past those people and don't respond, not stoop to their level with personal attacks.
Fine, I apologize for any personal attacks.
From now on I'll stick with talking about games, and non-negative subjects.
Anyone buy MLB Power Pros. 08?
I love that game.
@SM: SM, you're a smart guy. Great control of the english language. Creative writer. Honestly I have been trying to have a normal debate with you. I'm not sure why it escalated the way it did. If you lay off bad-mouthing me I'd be glad to get back to discussing the games with you. We'll just leave 'Hard-Core' and E3 out of it.
BTW: Power Pros rocks but I can never get the Rangers to the series.
I haven't got around to buying a new Wii game for a while since I've been spending a lot of time reintroducing myself to Advance Wars, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite game series.
Just downloaded Chase HQ and Art of Fighting 2 today, and I have to say that Art of Fighting 2 is probably the better choice, Chase HQ is good for the first few minutes, but it's not so good after that, for Art of Fighting 2 what can I say it's a Neo Geo fighter, anyone who's familiar with AoF series should get it.
Well thanks. I never actually get angry about anything that happens on this site though, I guess it just seems that way.
And the Braves are my favorite team.
But right now I'm 3rd in my division.
I've side lined Power Pros for now. I bought it, tried it, confirmed it was good, and am saving it for later. Right now I'm undertaking what I'm told is a religious experience as far as gaming goes: For the first time ever I am playing Zelda 64.
@ el cabarto
BEWARE OF THE WATER TEMPLE!! (actually it's not that hard of a dungeon, just some of the small keys are in REALLY retarded places)
I played through Zelda 64 earlier this Summer for the first time (what, I was five when the game came out ) and absolutely loved it.
@el cabarto: To call my love of Ocarina of Time a 'religous experience' is an understatement. I've completed the game nearly twenty times, and I don't see myself ever growing tired of it. I know it's sad, but it's true.
I personally never found the Water Temple to be as tough as people say it is. It's just that you can get stuck completely if you use a key at the wrong time. If I can give any advice, I'd say that you should ONLY use keys when you absolutely need to. Explore every room that doesn't require a key first.
Also, enjoy the game. It's a great ride.
I am so far impressed with this game. I was a loyal nintendo fan till the 64/32 bit jump. Then my favorite company (capcom) jumped ship. I go where Megaman goes so I missed the entire 64 library. It wasn't until the gamecube era that I had enough disposable income to get back with Big N. Now, playing this for the 1st time, I feel I really missed out. One thing I love about Ocarina of time is the amount of foreshadowing in the dialogue so far (just got the master sword). Almost every zelda has some kind of mention already.
As great as the beginning was with young Link, the game really delivers once you get the Master Sword. The dungeon design is superb, and the story is among Zelda's best.
As weird as it may seem, I have never played a Mega Man game in my life.
@ Andrew #117
Well I used some small keys at the wrong places at the wrong time and never got stuck to the point where I had to start over again (all though I did have to adjust the water level 100+ times)
@PHANTOM93: My brother had an OoT file long ago that he was stuck on (in Water Temple) and wanted me to get him out of it. Upon playing it, I couldn't find any way to fix it, so I ended up erasing his whole file. Boy was he mad.
"removing the AS part of you is like removing the fruit portion in its entirety from a trifle - even if you take it out, the result would look like a gooey mess."
Having studied some psych, I think the Asperger diagnosis as a "disorder" is absolutely full of it, not to mention poorly-defined--many Psychologists think Bill Gates has it. What about the rather commonplace occurrence of people having different strengths/weaknesses, preference in personality, or types of intelligence? But no, most psychologists love their growing list of "disorders" labels and their ever-fading "normal" paradigm (90% of the population is supposedly "normal"--HA!).
I taught in a school for a year and someone told me about a brand new "defiant disorder" in children. I think the people who come up with this worthless stuff and get paid need the diagnosis.
<gets off soapbox>
My favorite Zelda is the one everyone forgets: Link's Awakening. I found the concept and story totally absorbing, and really atmospheric. It blew my mind when . . .
<spoiler warning>
. . . you find out the entire island with its characters (that you get attached to) is a shared dream between Link and the Wind Fish made real. The N64 Zeldas I actually had some trouble with getting absorbed in--the character models came across as a little creepy, being early 3-D, and the excitement of using that new item to get that tantalizing thing (one of Zelda's tricks) diminished when it takes WAY longer to trek back-and-forth across the game world.
Wow! Some of you actually appreciate a game that's available on Virtual Console. Could it be that Nintendo isn't so terrible after all?
I really hope they dont quit the 2 vc game update ...
WHen the VC gets slow thats what you have to do. You have to find a gem like Ocarina of time and enjoy it. I never owned a N64 so I got to play OOT and Mario 64 for the first time. It was great to see how Galaxy and Zelda TP got it roots started.
I am actually thinking of downloading Shinobi 3 next. I have not played it in years, but I remember really enjoying it back in the day. At some point I will get a Neo-geo title(even though I complain about them) but I want to rent the SNK classics first.
I don't consider this a bad VC week, but its average. At least its still 2 games a week. Lets keep that up Nintendo
@Cally: Link's Awakening is SO great. By far the most complex original Gameboy game. It's a blast to play, and I'd say it's even better than A Link to the Past.
Better than A Link To The Past? Debateable. Sure, I do prefer the GB game most, but I also like ALttP too.
I would love for Nintendo to remake Link's Awakening for the WiiWare - just give the game modern graphics and six buttons for items and it would be perfect. The flip-screen thing could easily be done away with and allow for like a four screen square on the GB to be seen on one screen of your TV. Or if you're inside a dungeon, cave or building, the action could be enlarged so that one screen of the original would be one screen on your TV.
@Bass X0: My experience with A Link to the Past was different from most die-hard Zelda fans. I never had an SNES until well after I got my N64. Link's Awakening and OoT were groundbreaking to me. I bought A Link to the Past well after those games, so the game didn't blow me away. Sure it's a great game, but I don't have the same nostalgia for LttP that I do for the others.
Everyone know Ocarina of Time is the greatest Zelda game ever made. It always makes the top 10 lists.
@ Andrew #121
My friend had a glitched Twilight Princess save file (one of the key NPC'S wasn't there) I thought that something was wrong with his disc at first so I put it on my Wii and used my disc, the little turd still wasn't there! Oh and because of where you were at the time of the glitch, Link got locked in the room with the broken cannon and couldn't warp out because Midna thought he WAS there!
My experience with both Oot and Lttp are different then most people as I played TP first. It made Ocarina seem like revisiting and old friend after ten years. And Lttp was wonderful due to the fact that my only other 2d Zelda i'd played before it was Oracle of Seasons, which was good but SOOOOO frustrating. I actually ended up BREAKING my SP over the fact that my guide (that only told me how to do three dungeons that I didn't need help on and how to get the Noble sword) LIED to me about the number of hits that it took to kill the final boss! (DAMN YOU ONYX WHY WON'T YOU DIE!!!!!)
Wow, that took forever to write with the Wii Browser
@x.SuperMario.x
I'm sorry. I can't let this go. Can you please tell me what was the point of me sticking with Nintendo through the hard times of the Nintendo 64 and the GameCube, only to see them become number one and then get kicked to the curb by them?
@firebrand: Who's getting kicked to curb? So far we've gotten MarioKart and Smash Bros. We're getting Mario Super Sluggers, Wario Land, and Animal Crossing later this year. That's five Nintendo IPs in one year. We're doing pretty good if you ask me. I suppose some people can NEVER be satisfied.
I stayed with them.
And I haven't been kicked to the curb.
I'm happy with the 5 IP's we're getting this year. That's more games than Microsoft and Sony have made this year for their consoles.
Besides, everyone clamored for 3rd party support. Now everyone wants more Nintendo games.
Until I can afford the games that are out right now, I don't care either way.
Added: Not to mention we've gotten 3 WiiWare games, and about 8 VC games from Nintendo this year.
So, I'm happy.
@x.SuperMario.x: "Besides, everyone clamored for 3rd party support. Now everyone wants more Nintendo games."
They also used to complain about Nintendo being 3rd place. Now, Nintendo is #1 again and they're complaining about that. Like I said, some people are NEVER satisfied. I swear, if I read one more complaint on here about Earthbound, I'm going to snap.
@FalcoLombardi: Yeah, I remember hearing about the cannon glitch in Twilight Princess. I was so worried when I got to that part that I refused to save until I got to the City in the Sky.
Oh yeah, and Oracle of Season/Ages are just as great as Link's Awakening. They were both pretty tough as far as Zelda games go.
I just realized Nintendo has given us 16 games this year..
How many have Microsoft and Sony provided their customers?
Actually, it's 18 if you include Wii Fit and Wii Music.
Damn, Nintendo has given us almost 20 games this year.
That's almost two games a month, and people want more.
Not very many in comparison. Heck, even Sony's starting to lose some of its third party support, so there we go.
It's good to see that Nintendo's starting to come in with their own properties to counter some of the dreary third party support as of late (even though we admit we've seen some good ones in the past year at least). The coming Wario Land title might be the only one that interests me at the moment, but as long as they do well for themselves all around, then pretty much everyone should be happy, including those soccer moms that call themselves "casual"
I just got back from my vacation in Washington D.C., and it looks like I haven't missed anything.
@Cally. I loved Link's Awakening as a kid! (though the Oracle games were better IMO) and It's great to hear from somebody else who actually remembers it!
But you choose that over ALttP, the Oracle games, Oot, and TP? oooooo-kay.
@Falco. Awwwww I really wanted Earthbound this week. WHERE'S MY FRICKIN' EARTHBOUND!?!?
@The people confused by Demon212's autism statement. Demon has autism himself. He says so on his Youtube page.
@Falco: I would have prefered to wait a little longer (actually up to 3 years or even more) for Mario Kart Wii and Brawl in order to have the game quality that those big names and we deserve. I dont know a single gamer (not casual) whose expectations were completely satisfied with the characters, difficulty and lenght of both games.
The control of the Wii Wheel, besides being as uncomfortable as hell, the remote was not done for keeping its buttons pressed for long so the B, 2 buttons and pad stop responding good (Worst thing is that Nintendo should have noticed this issue but as long as that wheel and a sooner release ment more cash they didnt care). I used the wheel 2 days and 2 remotes became unusable, seriously.
They ended up being just good, not the great deal everyone expected. On a side note, even with this details you cant compare Mario sluggers and Animal Crossing to MK and Brawl, its true they are also strong names but they werent as expected as the ones above and dont mean as much to the industry, I personally consider Nintendo ran out of games too soon and they are using them as refill. So, me and many more are not happily satisfied, just ... OK
Honestly, I don't want Nintendo rushing their games to the market. If they do it will bad for everyone. If the next Zelda takes 5 years to make, then I have to be patient because I know it will be a better game because of the development time. I think people just want to know that Nintendo is working on new Zelda and Mario games.
Actually I am surprised that the Mother series wasnt mentioned until the lastf ew comments. Me want! In all seriousness,I think that this year's VC has just been slow/unexciting. It cetianly hasnt completely sucked. If you compare to other services, we get more games a week (on average) than them. And I am NOT starting a HATE thread on any console/service, so return the same curtousy (SP).
@alxtlvra: I am a casual gamer and I was completely satisfied with the characters, length, and gameplay in Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. They are both fantastic games and definitive within their respective series.
I was very skeptical of the Wii Wheel with Mario Kart from the beginning. It looked like a big gimmick. Upon playing, the game, however, I was really pleased. I don't think it plays as bad as people make it seem.
Yeah, I'm more comfortable with the wheel than holding the remote on its own or with the nunchuk in play. I haven't tested it with the Classic Controller yet though.
@ Rexy
The classic controller plays excellently and I actually prefer it to both Wiimote and Wiimote+Nunchuk control options. The wheel has to be my least favorite method of play though, I just find it really slippery and always seem to end up drifting the opposite way that I wanted to
As odd as it sounds, I've never tried any other control method aside from the Wii Wheel. The game keeps a stat of what percentage you use the Wheel, and a wanted it to keep it at 100%.
tried a rom of it, and it was more like art of getting my ass handed to me
@Andrew I actually got stuck on Link's Awakening and have probably played it more than LttP. Finally finished a Zelda game today when I defeated Gannondorf on Twilight Princess and considering starting a new save file on OoT. My experience with LttP came even later than yours it would seem as I didn't play it until after Wind Waker. It wasn't until I got a job good enough to allow me to go back and start buying all the consoles and games I missed out on that I got a SNES and LttP.
@Eltigro: Congrats on finishing Zelda. I'm thinking about starting another new Twilight Princess file myself.
I still got ways to go before beating TP. I'm trying to figure out how to get through the stupid Gerudo Desert.
Also still need to beat Ocarina of Time too, on OoT Master Quest. Pretty far in that one though.
No Demon212, we made that there English language more better now, ya hear?
And we're a lot better with autistic people than other countries; we baste with light gravy, and serve on a bed of lettuce with a bottle of Rolling Rock.
@Master Mario
the logest drought now is SNES not N64.
@Mr. Cheez: It's odd, but I've never played OoT Master Quest, and I've had the Gamecube disc for five years!
Well, all this talk about Zelda caused me to take a trip down memory road, and I went back to my first Zelda game: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. I loved that game when I was a kid, it was a lot better than Oracle of Ages, which my brother got short-ended with. It was the first game that I ever got close to beating, even though I'll admit I did use a guide( considering there are so many secrets in that game, it's warranted). I had been stuck on the last boss for ages, and now I beat the final boss first try! I feel so proud of myself, I finally managed to beat a Zelda game, and my first one at that! The younger me would be so proud! I can't wait to play the expanded adventure on Ages! I think I'll finish Okami next, since I learned that a great game feels even better when you're fill with that sense of an accomplishment you get from beating a video game.
@ el cabarto :
That is because you have the lowest expectations we can guess it by your nick!
@alxtlvra: What does my screen name have to do with my enjoying two great Nintendo games? I'm not sure what you think my nickname is supposed to be/mean but I'm 99.99% certain you've got the wrong idea.
To be fair, it's not very often that everyone's full expectations of a game are met. There will always be people disappointed by a game. It's all a matter of perspective. In my opinion, Brawl and Mario Kart Wii did meet expectations.
@alxtlvra
What exactly does el cabarto mean anyways? I popped it into a translator, and it simply came out as the cabarto. I think it is and was intended to be gibberish.
Brawl hit my every expectation! The only thing I was disappointed by was the lack of specific Target stages for each individual character, but then I realized the universal ones work just as well! The only reason why I didn't like Mario Kart Wii was because of the crappy items they add that shook things up too much, but to be honest, I was hoping for more items, so I can't say I was disappointed( though Wipeout Pure did raise my standards of what Weaponized racing should be).
@Mickeymac: Pretty much. It's not spanish or anything. It's a nickname that a mentor of mine at my last job came up with by moving around letters in my name. Nothing special. I'm not sure what he was getting at.
@el cabarto
perhaps he assumed it was a misspelling, though the only words close to it are cabaret and caballo, the former being a nightclub, and the latter being a horse; neither of them have to do with low expectations. Curious...
Hmmm... Weren't there more comments on this page before?
@Mr. Cheez
Yes, and I can guarentee your's and mine will be deleted as well.
@ Everybody
http://capcom-unity.com/
Here comes Megaman!
Darnit, why weren't those posts deleted!
@el cabarto
I kind of doubt it, I'm not sure how they derived that release date from that blog, but I don't think it's too accurate.
Edit: Nevermind, you're absolutely right, I just got confused is all. Bring on the Mega Man!
Edit again: Nevermind, my initial predictions were correct. Heck, we didn't even get Samurai Shodown 2!
@ el cabarto : DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
I... your nick just sounds nasty and dumb to me I was just being ironic and sarcastic, you dont have to get that far on to such theories to guess it, Einstein.
Can´t you get it? Then you are dumb, and if you are dumb, therefore you have the lowest expectations over all. See, I proved it.
@ Mickeymac : You have posted
"Brawl hit my every expectation! The only thing I was disappointed by was the lack of specific Target stages for each individual character ..." ... "The only reason why I didn't like Mario Kart Wii was because of the crappy items they add that shook things up too much, but to be honest, I was hoping for more items, so I can't say I was disappointed ..."
So your expectations WERENT COMPLETELY SATISFIED as I said. See it, I proved myself being right AGAIN, twice in a single post Nice!
@alxtlvra
First off, I was the one who kept focusing on the subject about the name, el cabarto was simply kind enough to respond.
As for my post, I was completely satisfied with Brawl. That was a small thing I noticed when I first got the game, but once I played the Target Stages, I discovered that they played the part just fine, and I was satisfied.
As for MKWii, you got me there, but I don't really care, I was never a fan of that series, and I prefered Wipeout anyways. I had low expectations for it: everybody was calling it crap, and in the end, it was crap, just not for the same reasons. The Wii wheel, in conjunction with a good character( my favorite character, by the way), was quite superb, and made driving feel quite natural. Aside from Rainbow Road and Bowser's Castle, I found the tracks in the game to be quite excellent, and even made Wipeout Pure's tracks look quite dull in comparison. What killed it was that the items made the game so G-D damn cheap! I didn't play the earlier Mario Karts very much, but I don't remember them being that cheap! Even in Pure, the items didn't knock you more than a few places, and certainly they never sent you from first to last in a split second! Gaaaahhhhh!!!!!!
@ Mickeymac : "That was a small thing I noticed when I first got the game"
Sooo ... your expectations werent COMPLETELY fulfilled as I said.
"and made driving feel quite natural" ... for that means you´d better drive a real car.
Fine, they weren't completely satisfied, but G-D it's not a big deal! As for the driving, yes I gave it a try a few weeks ago and I was surprised how easily I caught on. I guess you can learn something from video games.
@Mickey. Yeah, driving was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Too bad I still wasn't good enough at it to get my Driver's license.
@El Cabarto. No he's not!
