Welcome to our complete story walkthrough of Super Mario RPG on Nintendo Switch and SNES.
You’ve just finished a trip to the breathtaking Star Hill for your fourth Star Piece, and now your travels have brought you to Seaside Town. Unfortunately, you’ll notice something is wrong as soon as you get there. Why is everyone acting so odd?
Here’s our guide on Seaside Town, its items and shops, and how to navigate the sea and get to the Sunken Ship.

Seaside Town Walkthrough
There's not much to do in Seaside Town right now, but if you talk to some of the Toads in town they’ll refer to a pirate who has appeared in the sea.

Enter the bottom door of the item shop to purchase some helpful items. You’ll be needing at least three Fire Bombs, so purchase them for later. If you have coins left over, buy a few Ice Bombs. You can’t get these items later, so if you want to buy them, make sure you do so now.
At the northeast end of town is the village Elder’s house. He requests that you find a star that fell in the ocean for him. Speaking to him unlocks the world map’s path to the next area.

Upstairs is one of the Frog Sage's / Frogfucius’ students, and he sells an assortment of excellent gear in exchange for Frog Coins. All of these items are great, but the Exp. Booster is without a doubt the best one. It costs 22 Frog Coins, though, so you might need to come back later if you can’t afford it.
Once you’ve completed your shopping, exit Seaside Town and head over to the Sea.
Sea Enemies

Zeostar
You’ve seen these guys before as Starslaps, and Zeostars are simply stronger versions! Take them out with physical attacks before they restore their health.
Mr. Kipper
An upgraded fish enemy. Despite the upgrading, it’s still weak and can only use a charge attack. You should be able to defeat it with two physical attacks.
Blooper
They have low physical defense, so smack them with a few physical attacks and they may flee the battle if they’re not defeated outright.
Leuko
These jellyfish specialize in electric attacks. They have a good amount of health so you may want to take these enemies out first.
Crusty
Crusty sure knows how to make crabs look more intimidating. These are weak to Thunder like most enemies here, so use Mallow to take it out quickly.
Sea Walkthrough
You emerge in a deep, dark area. There’s a cloaked figure up ahead running a shop that sells the Hurly Gloves for Bowser plus armor for every party member except Bowser.

Purchase and equip the armor if you can and grab some Mid Mushrooms and Pick Me Ups if you still have some coins. When you’re finished, take the south exit.
There’s a Super Star in the treasure box in the southwest corner, so avoid the Zeostars, grab the Star, and run through as many as possible. Continue to the next room and again void the Zeostars.

Continue forth until you see a whirlpool. Jump into it to sink to the bottom of the floor and then go to the nearby cave. You’ll rise to the top of the water and appear in an area with a Max Mushroom in a Treasure Box.
Go outside and jump into a whirlpool to sink to the seafloor. Then make your way west until you see a Sunken Ship and a pipe. Enter it to officially begin your next dungeon-crawling quest, where you’ll get to the bottom of why Seaside Town’s residents are acting so strange.
