Welcome to our boss guides for Super Mario RPG on Nintendo Switch and SNES.

The first boss of the final dungeon of Super Mario RPG, Count Down is just the first of many challenges that await you in Weapon World and Smithy's Factory. Count Down can be an annoying boss thanks to the two bells on its head, but we're here to help.

This guide will tell you how to defeat Count Down and progress through the rest of the final dungeon.

How to beat Count Down

Recommended party: Mario, Geno, Peach

To start with, focus on Count Down. Use Geno Boost on Mario, who should use regular attacks to deal with the boss. Geno can then switch physical attacks and spells, while Peach can heal up or use Psych Bomb if she has it.

Count Down has several powerful spells that you definitely don’t want to have to deal with. Both of the bells can use their own set of special attacks too, so beware.

Count Down will eventually recover some health, but your damage output should outpace its recovery. If not, use Ultra Jump. Eventually, the clock will go down.

Your attacks should have been hitting the bells, too, but you'll need to take both of those out to win. Keep attacking and healing, and you'll make it past this clock.
