Super Mario RPG: How To Defeat Boomer

Boomer is one of the highest-ranking members of Smithy's Gang, and he's out to stop you dead in your tracks in Super Mario RPG. In fact, Boomer won't let you get past him easily, and he challenges you to a fight on top of the chandeliers in Bowser's Keep.

Here are our tips on how to beat Boomer, as well as the best party to take him down.

How to beat Boomer

Recommended party: Mario, Geno, Bowser (or Peach)

Your party will vary here depending on how many healing items you have currently. Bowser will help you deal the most damage, but if you're low on items, the Peach is the way to go.

When Boomer is red, he takes increased damage from spells and magic attacks. When he’s blue, he takes increased damage against physical attacks. Boomer starts the fight red, so use Geno Boost to boost Mario and Bowser and then attack Boomer regularly. When he swaps to blue, switch to magical attacks.

Boomer can use a spell called Shaker, which instantly knocks out a party member. You can block it with strict timing, but you should have plenty of Pick Me Ups from Croco a few rooms back. Boomer will also use Vigor Up to boost his attack — but at the cost of his defense.

When he does this, swap entirely to physical attacks and pummel Boomer. Swap between healing if needed, and you'll eventually win when Boomer cuts down his chandelier. You'll be thrown straight into a second boss fight after this against Exor.
