Hello and welcome to our Pokémon Scarlet & Violet walkthrough! We'll be covering the 'Victory Road' path here, where you need to travel across the Paldea region and defeat all eight Gym Leaders.

You can do the gyms in any order, but we recommend starting off with the Cortondo Gym, where you battle the Bug-type leader.

To find out which order you should complete the gyms in, check out our recommended gym order.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Guide: Victory Road - How To Get The Bug Badge

How to get to Cortondo Gym

Cortondo City is West of Mesagoza, and it contains the first gym that your rival Nemona suggests you take on.

From the Mesagoza (West) Pokémon Center, head west towards the western gate of the city and walk through it to reach South Province (Area Two).

Follow the path from the gate to the Pokémon Center, and past that to reach the city.

The gym is located on the south side of the city — to your left if you're entering from the Cortondo (East) Pokémon Center side.

Gym Test - Take On The Olive Roll Challenge

Once you enter the gym, talk to the receptionist to take on the Gym Test - the Olive Roll Challenge.

The Test is located just outside of the west side of the city. Go past the red sandwich shop and turn right. At the end of the path you'll find a fenced-off area. Talk to the attendant to start the Test.

All you need to do is roll the giant olive from one end of the maze to the red goal at the end. There's no time limit and no penalties for hitting the fences.

If you run into a person while rolling the olive, you'll need to take them on in a Pokémon battle. All of the trainers here use Bug-type Pokémon.

Once that's over, report back to the gym at Cortondo to take on the Gym Leader.

How To Beat Gym Leader Katy, The Bug-type Gym Leader

Katy, the sugarbug is the Bug-type Gym Leader of the Paldea region. She uses three Pokémon, including her ace Teddiursa, which Terastallizes into a pure Bug Tera-type.

To have an easy time beating Katy, bring Fire, Flying, and Rock-type Pokémon. If you picked the Fire-type starter Fuecoco, that will help massively. Otherwise, Fletchinder, Nacli, and Staravia make nice additions to the team.

Pokémon Level Type Tera Type
Nymble Lvl 14 Bug N/A
Tarountula Lvl 14 Bug N/A
Teddiursa Lvl 15 Normal Bug-type

Cortondo Gym Rewards

Once you've beaten all of Katy's Pokémon, you'll get the Bug Badge, along with TM021 Pounce.
