Pokémon Scarlet Violet Psychic Gym 1

Here's the next step in our Pokémon Scarlet & Violet guide for Victory Road. You'll need to climb up some rocky terrain to reach the Psychic gym, but it'll be worth it.

Alfornada Gym is actually fairly close to Mesagoza, but it's actually the second to last gym that you should consider taking on — if you want to do things in the recommended order, of course.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Guide: Victory Road - How To Get The Psychic Badge

How to get to Alfornada Gym

There's only one way to get to Alfornada Gym, and that's by going southwest from Mesagoza and Cortondo. Even though you can tackle the gyms in any order, you'll need to at least have beaten one Titan Pokémon to get Koraidon/Miraidon's high jump upgrade to be able to access the gym.

Going from Cortondo, follow the path northwest to the bridge and cross it to reach West Province (Area One) — Central Pokémon Center. From there, follow the path south and head inside Alfornada Cavern.

Go left, jump up the rock mountain path, and follow the path up to the light at the top of the cavern. Once you emerge out at South Province (Area Six), Alfornada is straight ahead of you.

Follow the path to reach the gym on the left side of the town, and speak to the receptionist

Gym Test - Take On The Emotional Spectrum Practice

Your Gym Test here is all about exercise and well-being. The leader, Tulip, has come up with the ESP (Emotional Spectrum Practice) routine, and you'll need to take part in it to prove your worth.

Head to the practice court on the right side of the gym and talk to a familiar face to get started.

This is a Simon Says-style game where four emotions are mapped to the four face buttons on your Switch. The instructor will call out which emotion to present, and you need to press the right button.

After the first round of ESP, you'll fight Emily, who has a level 43 Gothorita and Kirlia. Ghost-type Pokémon will be good for both 'mons here, but Steel and Poison are also helpful.

Once you beat the Gym Trainer, you'll need to complete another round of ESP. Then you'll be challenged by Raphael. His three 'mon team consists of a Grumpig, Medicham, and Indeedee all at level 43. The same types as above will be perfect here.

With that, you've completed the ESP Test! Talk to your teacher, and then report back to the receptionist to take on the Bewitching Beautician.

How To Beat Gym Leader Tulip, The Psychic-type Gym Leader

Tulip is the third gym leader with four different Pokémon on her team. While Psychic is largely weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-types — making Lokix, Skeledirge, Meowscarada, Houndstone, and Armarouge solid choices — Gardevoir's dual Fairy-type and Florges' Fairy moves add some unexpected offence and defence. Tinkaton and Scizor are good backups for their Steel typing.

Alfornada Gym Rewards

Tulip will eventually go down, and she'll reward you with the Psychic Badge and TM120 Psychic.
