Welcome back to our full walkthrough of Metroid Prime Remastered, and welcome to the beautiful land of Phendrana Drifts.

Now that we're out of Magmoor Caverns, we can take a bit of a breather in the knowledge that we're not in any danger of falling into any lava. But we warned, there are still loads of dangerous beasties roaming the environment, so be on your guard.

Metroid Prime Remastered: Walkthrough - Phendrana Drifts

Stepping out of the elevator, you'll find yourself blocked off by a large chunk of ice. Fire at it with a charged Power Beam shot, then shoot a second one a bit further along. Head through the door at the end to trigger the introductory cutscene for Phendrana Drifts.

In the Phendrana Shorelines, head directly ahead to find a Save Station.

Scan Entry - Crystallite

Roaming about the Shorelines are Crystallites, small creatures that look like chunks of ice. Scan one of them. You don't have to kill them, but a quick missile shot will take them out.

Scan Entry - Flickerbat

Flying around the Shorelines are Flicker Bats. Again, these will pose no threat to Samus, so scan one and leave them be.

On the left-hand side as you enter the Shorelines, you'll see an electronically locked door on the upper level. To unlock this, check out the grating underneath. You can fire a missile at this to destroy it and Morph Ball your way through the gap. Scan the device at the end to unlock the door above. Head on through.

You'll see another block of ice blocking your path. Charge up your Power Beam and get rid of it.

Scan Entry - Scatter Bombu

Just up ahead is the game's first Scatter Bombu - scan it. This is a floating electrical orb that shoots out electricity in three directions. Turn into a Morph Ball and roll through the gap as the Bombu spins around.

Move on through to the next area, the Ice Ruins.

Scan Entry - Baby Sheegoth

See those icy bulges sticking out of the ground just ahead? Those are Baby Sheegoth and they'll wake up if you move too close to them. Scan one of them while you're at a safe distance. In order to defeat them, you'll need to lock on and strafe so you get their icy backsides in view. Keep firing until the ice breaks, then shoot a few more times to bring them down.

Phendrana Drifts 7

Now, make your way up the platforms and head around the edge of the area, avoiding the Crystallites as you go. Eventually, you'll come to a door that leads through to the Plaza Walkway.

Scan Entry - Ice Burrower

In the Plaza Walkway, two Ice Burrowers will pop up and spit at you - rude! Scan one of them and get rid of them in the same way as the regular Burrowers.

Phendrana Drifts 8

Now move through and back into Phendrana Shorelines. This time, you're way up high, so for goodness sake, don't fall down, otherwise you'll need to go back through the aforementioned areas. Instead, simply walk up and through the door to your left.

Move past the Pulse Bombus here and into Ice Ruins West. Either move past the Baby Sheegoths here or take them down; up to you. To the right, fire a missile at the door and go through. Avoid the Scatter Bombus here and make your way through to Phendrana Canyon.

Scan Entry - Chozo Lore - Phendrana Canyon

Before you do anything else, drop down to the ledge below you. Turn around and you'll see some Chozo Lore on the wall. Scan it!

Now drop down to the floor. Dispatch the Baby Sheegoth and head up the slope to the right. Get rid of the Crystallite, then scan the device on the right. This will align a bunch of floating platforms so you can cross the Canyon.

Power Suit Upgrade - Boost Ball

Cross over the platforms and just up ahead you'll see the Boost Ball lying in wait. Get it!

Now that we've got the Boost Ball, it's time to high-tail it back to Tallon Overworld to pick up our next major piece of kit. To get there, you'll need to go back through Magmoor Caverns, so head back to the entrance of Phendrana Drifts and take the elevator down to Magmoor.

Once you're back, head through to the Monitor Station. Take care of the enemies here, then instead of going back through the Monitor Tunnel, you'll want to head into the Shore Tunnel and through to Fiery Shores.

Missile Expansion 8 - Fiery Shores

The Firey Shores will contain a mandatory Morph Ball tunnel to allow access around the lake. Once you're through, you'll spot another Morph Ball tunnel that will take you up onto some grating. Move slowly around this track until you come to a Missile Expansion pickup.

Once you've got what you need, head through Transport Tunnel B and into Transport to Tallon Overworld West. Take the elevator up.

Missile Expansion 9 - Transport Tunnel B (Tallon Overworld)

In Tallon Overworld, move through the tunnel and into the Root Cave. But wait! Before you leave the tunnel, you'll notice that you'll be walking over a very small bridge surrounded by mist. Hop down below the bridge and grab another Missile Expansion.

When you're in the Root Cave, move upwards, jumping across various platforms as you go; watch your footing. You'll eventually come to a locked door, so simply fire a missile to open it up. move through to Tallon Canyon.

In Tallon Canyon, jump down to the ground and turn left. Ooh, what's this? A half-pipe! Nice.

Use your new Boost Ball ability to propel yourself up the half-pipe until you're able to land safely on the ledge above. Walk around and then morph ball your way through a short tunnel, bombing any blockages.

Power Suit Upgrade - Space Jump Boots

You'll find yourself in a short tunnel called the Gully. Just head on through and back into the Landing Site.

Do not jump down!

Instead, walk across the ledge and jump across a couple of gaps. Move through the door and into the Alcove. Just below you are the Space Jump Boots. Grab it. Now you can double jump! Simply tap 'B' at the height of your first jump for an extra boost.

Now it's time to head back to Phendrana Drifts. Before we do so, however, jump down to your ship and save.

Missile Expansion 10 - Landing Site

Once you've saved, head behind your ship and you'll see a small Morph Ball tunnel against the wall, with Tangle Weed wiggling around inside. You can shoot this or just head straight through, but doing either will nab you another Missile Expansion.

Okay, now head back to Phendrana Drifts. The quickest route will be back the way you came via the Root Cave.

Once you're back in Phendrana Shorelines, save your game. Then, head up the platforms just outside the Save Room. You'll notice a couple of floating platforms leading to another area to the left. Now that you have your Space Jump Boots, you can reach these platforms; don't panic, take a leap of faith. You'll make it.

Once across, go through the Temple Entryway and into the Chozo Ice Temple.

Scan Entry - Ice Parasite

Head up the platforms within the temple; there will be a few Crystallites roaming about, but don't worry about those. Instead, you'll want to scan one of the Ice Parasites. These guys look like regular parasites, but, well... icy. Unlike the Crystallites, they're also susceptible to regular weapon fire.

Phendrana Drifts 17

At the top of the room, jump across to what looks like a river of ice with a Chozo Statue at the end. On each wall on either side, you'll see the heads of other Chozos. The second one on the right is made of Brimstone and can be destroyed with a rocket. This will reveal a Morph Ball slot, so bomb it to open up the door on the far end of the room.

In the Chapel Tunnel, you'll need to bomb a few blocks in order to lower the pillars and grant further access. This is very straightforward. Once you're through, shoot the door and enter the Chapel of the Elders.

Scan Entry - Sheegoth

At the end of the room, you'll see the Wave Beam. Walk towards it to trigger a short cutscene. Next, get rid of the four Baby Sheegoths that appear (two will show up at first, with an additional two appearing as you get rid of the first ones). Once they're dead, the big momma Sheegoth will smash through the wall at the end of the room.

Scan it!

Sheegoth - Boss Method

Sheegoth is a bit of a toughie compared to previous boss fights, so if you need some extra help, then make sure to check out our full breakdown on How to Defeat Sheegoth.

Power Suit Upgrade - Wave Beam

With Sheegoth dead, the Wave Beam upgrade will reappear at the end of the room. Yay! Grab it.

Phendrana Drifts 22
Image: Nintendo Life

Now it's time to head back to the Phendrana Shores to save your game. On the way, you'll come across a load of Bombus. Now that you've got the Wave Beam, you can get rid of these with a handy charged shot.

Head to Ice Ruine West from Phendrana Shores (you can reach the ledge in the Shores with your Space Jump Boots to cut out some unnecessary travel here).

Scan Entry - Chozo Lore - Ice Ruins West

Head right when you enter Ice Ruins West into a small building. Get rid of the Crystallite. Above, you'll see a new Chozo Lore entry. Scan it.

Phendrana Drifts 23
Image: Nintendo Life

Scan Entry - Stalactite

Head up a bit further and you'll see a large stalactite hanging from the ceiling. Scan it, then fire a missile at it to create a makeshift platform.

Phendrana Drifts 24
Image: Nintendo Life

Scan Entry - Ice Shriekbat

Make your way up the stalactite you just blasted and head to the left across the roof of a building. Ahead, a group of Ice Shriekbats will attack. Be quick here - whip out your scan visor and scan one of them.

Phendrana Drifts 25

Now jump across to the Wave Beam door and into the Courtyard Entryway. Work your way through and watch those Scarabs and Pulse Bombu.

In the Courtyard, you'll see two Spinner mechanisms and a Morph Ball bomb slot. First, spin into the Spinners to activate the Morph Ball slot, then jump over and bomb it. This will fill the area with water.

Energy Tank 5 - Courtyard

Jump across the platforms, but don't head right to the top just yet. Instead, you'll see a Morph Ball tunnel at the far end that angles downwards. Go through it to grab your next Energy Tank upgrade.

Leave the room and Bomb the switch again to raise the water level. Now you can head up to the top. You'll see three doors on each wall. Head to the door that's got a missile lock on it. Shoot it off and head in to save your game.

Now leave the Save Room and go through the Wave Beam door on the right. It's time to head into the Research Core...
