The Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is chock-a-block with fantastic things to find, and not all of them are immediately obvious. In fact, some weren't even in the Animal Crossing Direct!
Here are the 50 things that brought us joy while we explored our new 2.0 paradise — most of them from the free update, so everyone can enjoy!
(And if you're thinking, "hey, this isn't 50!" — there are three pages! You can navigate to the next page at the bottom.)
On this page: 50 things you might have missed in the Animal Crossing 2.0 update

50 things you might have missed in the Animal Crossing 2.0 update
A More Efficient DAL

You can now fly from Harv's Island straight to the Happy Home Paradise, and vice versa!
Permanent Ladders Are Customisable

Are you tired of ugly ladders? Yeah, us too. But don't be blue, because now your ladder can be blue, instead! Or yellow, or red, or white, or...
Loading Screen Tips

Download the Island Life 101 app, and you'll get tips on your loading screen!
New House Exteriors
A few new options for customising your house are now available, so you can turn your house into a cute little Christmas cottage, or a beachy pastel bungalow!
Fisheye Lens And New Filters
The new Pro Camera App gives you the option to go into first-person mode and take selfies, but it also comes with new filters — Fisheye, Retro, and Surveillance being our current favourites.
You're Not The Only One Who's Bad At Stretching
If you've tried out the new plaza stretching exercise, you'll probably know that it's surprisingly tricky. Luckily, you're not alone. Phew.
Recipes In Bottles Tell You What They Are Before You Open Them
This one's just a cute detail, but still quite lovely! Now you can see whether something is a food recipe, or a DIY recipe. Of course, you still have to open it to find out what it'll teach you!
Scooching

This one was on the Direct, but you might not appreciate just how good scooching is until you do it. Small gaps between a sofa and a coffee table? Not a problem any more, pal! Scooch away!
Brewster And Kapp'n's Secrets
Check out some of the details in The Roost and you'll see a storeroom full of gyroids, and photos of old Animal Crossing memories. Awww!
Likewise, Kapp'n has a wee photo of his family from New Leaf, and their little shop, on his boat.

Invite Old Friends To The Roost
With Animal Crossing amiibo figures or Series 5 of the Animal Crossing amiibo cards, you can now invite old pals like Resetti, Digby, Pelly, Booker, DJ KK, Katie, and Gracie to The Roost and Harv's Island.
Have Fun On Kapp'n's Boat

The four face buttons — X, Y, A, and B — have a purpose when you're on Kapp'n's boat.
Pressing A will let you clap along in time to Kapp'n's songs, Y will make you chuckle, and X will make you respond in shock. And we can't think why you'd want this, but B will make Kapp'n stop singing.
Isabelle's New And Improved News

Isabelle will now tell you who's visiting the island, whether it's Kicks, Leif, Saharah, or Redd — so you no longer have to run around the whole island to find out yourself!
Katrina's Special Power
Katrina used to tell your fortune and predict your luck, but now she can also check your friendship levels with your villagers, too! Weird that she knows that, though — she only just got here.
High Card Low Card

Villagers can visit your houses, but they can also now gamble with you. They'll invite you to play a game of High Card, Low Card, where they turn over one card and ask if the next one is higher, or lower. Get it right for a prize!
Ione Glows In The Dark

One of the new villagers is this adorable celestial squirrel/chipmunk called Ione. That galaxy tail isn't just for show — Ione actually glows in the dark. We're a little terrified of what that means.

Very Helpful, Thanks a lot!
Awesome, thank you.
I want to get the vehicles !
Also katrina can boost your friendship level with a villager once per day after you checked your current level.
Wait.. if you buy your villager's furniture do they just have unfurnished rooms? 😨 I would be scared to try.
I'm getting Katrina today; looking forward to using her to help finally get a friendship photo of Tasha. #TashaBestSquirrel (although I still think she is secretly a skunk and just too embarrassed to admit it)
FYI, as someone in the linked Twitter thread commented, Tom Nook was always the President. It’s nothing new. 😉
Once you obtain Brewster and The Roost, bird droppings will mysteriously begin appearing on statues in the art gallery.
Ive been so tempted to pick this game back up again but as i had only just started can anyone tell me how far you have to get in order to start using the DLC?
The castle set is so cool! I can't wait to get ahold of it!
@Kidfunkadelic83 I believe you just have to have gotten past the point of getting K.K. Slider, but I may be wrong.
@bimboliquido From what I remember in the Direct, it is a skill you have to learn when you work as a home designer in the paid DLC.
@FishyS Each visit you can buy only one item, and there are certain items that the villagers will refuse to sell.
How and where do u get Katrina?
@bimboliquido It's unlocked through Happy Home Paradise! You have to press the L button while decorating, and then press A next to a piece of furniture. Hold down to polish more!
@rockodoodle She's one of the options on Harv's Island — her setup will be in the bottom left of the campsite. Just pay 100,000 Bells to Lloid to bring her to the island!
Thank you so much for this article. I have been playing almost every day since launch and this update is overwhelming! Although I have not figured out all the new stuff, it is fun to explore and try stuff. I learned the Kappn reactions in the boat by accident and was amazed. And, i am glad for this article to reference.
good for Tom ^^
such a nice guy, who would not want a president that let you pay things whenever you want
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I was browsing the catalog earlier this morning, when I noticed we can now buy tools through the catalog.
Oh, another villager with glowing bodyparts?
For those who did not know:
The alligator Del has glowing eyes. Ah, Del, my favourite lighthouse keeper…
Any more villager with glowing parts?
The update is more substantial than I thought. It's still not OMGWOW but it's certainly more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Wonder how long it manages to keep me hooked now.
Haha, oh wow, I didn't expect that Amorphophallus titanum in bloom. I'll start looking for it right away!
It's funny how much I actually enjoy designing the vacation homes. I thought I had no creative bone in my body.
Great list! I’ve also noticed moving buildings (layout changes) now costs 10,000 bells rather than the steep 50,000.
@rockodoodle at Harvey Island, you need 100.000 Bell to unlock Katrina on Harvey Island.
you can also clap when K.K Slider is in your Island, Tom Nook already was the president/CEO of Nook inc., when you have a Rug in storage you can see it size.
Might have missed it elswhere but the added ACNH content on the online app is pretty cool. The newspaper recaps almost every activity lol
I'm not getting a lot of these.
50 is too many things! 😮
Thank you for sharing the Katrina tidbit. I've been trying to figure out for days if she actually does anything or is just scamming me.
@Anti-Matter
Yeah and make them money sinks too.
@bimboliquido
You unlock it in the Happy home dlc and afterwards you can press L to go to polish housekeeper mode even in your own home.
