Review Crystal Defenders R1 (WiiWare)
Break out the safe box.
Trailing off the coattails of Final Fantasy Tactics comes Crystal Defenders, Square's take on the incredibly popular 'Tower Defense' genre. Instead of methodically leveling units, using items, and strategizing your way through battle, you’ll be tasked with defending a set of crystals by means of brute force. Some may be...

News More Square Enix Goodness on WiiWare - Crystal Defenders
If you've got one of the popular iPhones and have checked out the library of downloadable games for it, you might have noticed that last month, they released a game for it called Crystal Defenders. In this shameless Tower Defense copy, you put down various character classics from Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (DS) and hope that they manage to kill all enemies before they can get to the end of the path.
Square Enix announced in the newest edition of the Japanese magazine Famitsu that the game will be heading to all three major console download services as well - WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade and Play...
About The Game
In Crystal Defenders R1, you must deploy various units such as Soldiers and Black Mages to stop wave after wave of encroaching monsters from escaping the area with your party's crystals.
There are many different types of units to choose from, some specializing in powerful short-range attacks, some wielding far-reaching magicks, and still others equipped with bows that enable them to bring down aerial foes. Deploy units in strategic locations to take full advantage of their traits. Each time an enemy breaches your defenses and reaches a map's exit, your party will lose crystals.
When all your crystals are gone, the game is over. Crystal Defenders R1 comes complete with a plethora of exciting stages, each varying in layout and difficulty. Can you defend them all without losing a single crystal?

Not for me, but I'm sure that many others will love the sound of this game. I wonder if / when we'll be getting this?
I realy like the look of this. Hope it's out here soon.
1000 points is an off-putting price. would definitely purchase if it was 800...
Never heard of this. Hope it turns out for the best!
@KnuckleSonic: That's because it was only annoucned yesterday.
Well I allready got this for my iPod touch so I'm not sure on this one.
No, just no. I like Tower Defence games, but I'm not shelling out $10 for this when I could find a game of equal or greater quality for free on the internet! And the FF characters make it even less appealing!
We gotta get Defence Grid up in here! That game is awesome!
If this was 1 game and not 1 game divided and priced as 3, I may have picked it up.
So, let me get this straight? Now it's $10 to get you only a 3rd of the game? Like I needed another reason to stay away from this game!
It's kind of sad that the Wii has such terrible memory, that we get downgraded iPhone ports...
hahaha yeah Digi when you put it that way, it does sound rather pathetic
This game looks amazing can't wait to write a review for this game for my website
1000 for each of the 3 parts is insane. And how is an iPhone game to big for WiiWare. Nintendo Needs to do something about that...
Tell me about it...
Anyway, I'll be getting this either way.
I just played the demo of this game on XBox 360 and loved it immediately. I have to download it as soon as I get enough money on Monday. Its more fun than it looks.
Bleh. Not interested in tower defense games. Especially not ones based around the Tactics Advance story.
I was hoping for a game like this to make DSWare, can't see myself playing this on the wii though then i'd rather do some WC3 tower defenses
Well everybody. Looks like this is coming out today. Surprise! Surprise!
(Bass - Was this originally 1000 Wii points befor today?
Yes, it was originally 1,000 Points which makes me REALLY happy to see it's only 800. So all three games will be... 2,400 Points. Anyway, I'm glad to see it's coming out today because, TBH, I didn't expect it. I expected something completely different.
Yes !!!!
I don't think I will be getting this one. It seams very SNES style to me.
I would rather buy a VC title then this especially at the 800*3 points for the full game. I can buy a store boxed game at that price. Its only 1 player, no WI-Fi, the battle screens are very lame. I can think of many other WiiWare titles I would get before this one.
@KnucklesSonic8 - Are you sure it's 3 games and not 2? Where'd you hear this from?
Anyways, I was very happy, and pleasantly surprised, that this came out today. Glad it wasn't something lame, like last weeks Popup Pirate/Pirate party or what ever it was called here.
Looks like you can upload high scores online too, though, I guess they get erased every month.
Not for me, but interesting
wait is that a tower defence rpg? lol
Hey guys, this is also for XBLA! And i downloaded the demo, and i have to say this. DO NOT BUY IT!
There are only 8 characters you can choose from to put out on the field, and thats it. I usually like tower defense games but this one is lame. And you can find better ones on the internet for free!
Yes! I love Tower Defense games! I might wait for the review though...
8 characters? Tower Defenses usually don't have a lot of towers to begin with...
Isn't that the point?...
Anyone else try this yet and like it? And if not/if so, how come you did/didn't?
This looks kind of cool and maybe even fun.
Why are the last few screenshots here so small and terrible looking? Are they from the Ipod version of the game? The first few screenshots look really cool, but the last few give me second thoughts about buying this game.
Anybody had a chance to try the game yet?
Thanks much malnin!
Sounds like it is worth it~
I'll buy it ASAP.
Gotta check on my money.
...Darn college...
Summer break is almost here...
Almost here...
Oh! Question!... For anyone;
How much blocks does this take up? I bet I'll have to remove some things.
@31
Um, SD Card?
I think it's about 250 blocks.
Graphics 6
Music 5
Controls 5
Durability 6 ( -4 to easy, you probably won't return after getting 100% )
*Still a fun challenge that should have been much harder! 6 / 10
love these kind of games
