Topic: The Weakly Trickle...

I get that the Wii U is EOL now and that we're going to see a trickle in the remaining few months. It's pretty bad, though. Today's release was Culture Brain NES games (3). I was really hoping for NSMB Wii or Pikmin 2 Wii (really hoping these are still on the release list before it's done).

3DS got, basically, nothing (looked like junk eShop games).

This reminds me when I gave up on the Wii Shop years back. Each week I'd excitedly look to see what was released until I realized, "It's all junk," and gave up.

I'm just hoping they add in the remaining few titles that are in one region but not another to round out the Wii U VC.

I never understood why so many expected huge hits every week...

I'd personally love to see some genuine surprises like Fatal Frame 2 for the Wii Classics lineup and a few more Virtual Console releases like Excitebike 64, which I don't think anyone saw coming last fall.

I'd love to grab Pilotwings 64. One of my favorites and I love how N64 games look on the Virtual Console. A bit too dark on the Wii U I'll admit, but the 480p rendering, elimination of the blur filter, and the higher quality video output of today would make for a nice facelift just as it has for every other release.

Not looking good, but nobody would've bet on Excitebike 64 appearing out of the blue mid November last year, either.

I never understood why they trickled out releases instead of like 5 NES , 5 Gameboy, 5 game gear games at one time for example. Sure there was shovelware back then but theres also a lot still now. I mean we got Milons Secret Castle and it's horrible.

3rd parties, license issues, and the fact that releasing so many at once will lead to weeks with no VC and tons of complaining

@TheLZdragon The 3rd point is extremely clear via the NoE situation. Wii U VC in Europe was fantastic but recently when it's most needed there's nothing new.

I'd argue it's needed less now from Ninty's viewpoint, Ninty have clearly given up on the Wii U and not even subtly so supporting it now with releases regardless if they are VC or new when there's a new system to sell would be a waste of their resources.

@Grumblevolcano They weren't new games to begin with. Surely it's better to have them all available right now than waiting months or years for your favourite game to appear on the eShop? Imagine if Steam hit the reset button every five years and slowly filled their catalog again with old games.

@Octane Yes but there's plenty of games they could release that they haven't. Smash Smash Bros. (N64) and a bunch of Wii games like MKWii, SSBB, FE Radiant Dawn, etc.

I'm not expecting every week to be gold but with this quickly coming to a close (I don't expect any releases after the release of the Switch) I'd hope to see some of the last few stragglers to come out which were released in other markets but not here (USA). Same can be said for the stragglers in EU which were released elsewhere.

There are some easy wins for them with Wii Pikmin 2, Wii NSMB, Smash Bros N64, etc.

It seems like the VC stuff would be easy-wins in general across the console and handheld market.

@Octane: Yeah, I agree. I think it's dumb that they basically hit the reset button and let the old games trickle back through. If I were to get a Switch, I don't want to wait until 5 years out before something like F-Zero X is released (again) on it via VC. They should just dump what they have onto the Switch via VC and then move forward. The trickle-stuff is stupid.

@Grumblevolcano I agree. However it has to be remembered that Nintendo isn't responsible for other publishers releasing games on the Virtual Console. Little Ninja Brothers was released because Culture Brain wanted to release a game on VC. We're not getting Capcom games (for example) right now because they evidently don't want to.

But I think publishers should release their biggest and best games they have first and work their way down through their back catalog instead of generally working their way up from lesser games to their more well known and popular games. We are going to miss out on some good games for the VC just because a publisher decided to release a crappy or average game from their back catalog instead.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
