I actually finished this game (for the first time) on the Wii VC days before it was announced for the Wii U VC... a shame, I coulda played it on the Gamepad.
Glad they've finally implemented the N64 VC though. Just crossing my fingers on Gamecube functionality too so I can play The Thousand Year Door.

I got it as a Club Nintendo reward during the final game dump and beat it literally the day it was announced for WiiU. Save myself 2 dollars I guess.
Ugh this is like the one N64 game from my Wii menu I may upgrade. I dunno what it is about this amazing series.
But not yet... especially cause I bet it's not $1 to upgrade it.
SNES Mario RPG could happen still, they did Paper Mario 64 on the Wii VC before they did Super Mario RPG.

Pretty good thus far, graphics hold up way better than most N64 titles
I skipped this on the Nintendo 64, but wisely had a change of heart on the Wii and bought it there. Your post is an understatement, if anything. Was very easy to forget that I was playing a Nintendo 64 game. While I haven't fired this up since I completed it five years or more ago, it held up extremely well.
Other than a few instances where the game zooms far too much into a relatively low resolution 2D sprite, making it glaringly evident just how low resolution that asset really is, I can't even think of anything to complain about where the graphics are concerned (That happens with text on occasion, too, when they want to emphasize that a character is raising their voice; rather than use a larger sized font with an appropriate amount of detail, they enlarge it, which doesn't look so great).
As far as I'm concerned, while this isn't my favorite Nintendo 64 game (Although it's well within my top 10 list), they didn't come any prettier than this late N64 release.
Also hope they somehow put The Thousand Year Door on the eshop, too.

I love this game, but I still don't feel the urge to go back to it. It took me many years off and on to finally beat it on the original hardware, and I still have said hardware, so I'm good...though all of a sudden I kinda want to play it...
Didn't look at the Wii game, but I'll definitely get this and then the Wii version when it eventually turns up - if I enjoy it. Sounds like a fun RPG, so it's hard to see disliking it.
