Examples: PS Network has many PS1 classics such as Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, and Spyro the Dragon. These games are the same gen as N64 and they are priced at only $6 whereas N64 VC is $10. An NES game on VC is $5 almost the same price as a PS1 game on PSN. Xbox Live remakes add HD and new features such as Stop and Swop features in Banjo classics. Perfect Dark on Xbox Live, which is priced the same as N64 VC, has HD upgrades and multiplayer online features whereas the N64 games on VC don't have any upgrades and priced the same.
So in conclusion, I think VC titles are overpriced. If you have an Xbox 360, download games like Sonic the Hedgehog on that system instead of VC where it is priced less ($5 instead of $8 and has achievement feature). Hopefully, Nintendo will lower its prices on future systems for downloadable games but right now it is unlikely considering how well the VC is doing.
Yeah, and if your from the PAL region, they're all 60 Hz compatible. The VC makes up for it with it's variety and volume, as well as the Wii's controllers which are often times more suited for these older games, but if I had between getting a game on XBLA or VC, 9 times out of 10, I'll choose XBLA. It'll cost half as much and have twice the features.
It's all a balance really. Some N64 games are worth more than $10, while others are overpriced. I recently bought Waverace 64 for $4.99, and I get the Kawasaki license that was removed from the VC version. Not only that, I bought a working N64 from Goodwill for $12.99, not much more than a single game on the VC. You really just have to do some research before buying a game on the VC to make sure you are getting a good value.
XBOX LIVE rocks, the games on there all run in 60hz not 50hz like the Wii,plus u can download demos of XBLA games to see if u like them or not,NINTENDO are big RIP OFFS if u ask me with their 50hz junk.
Yeah, it's pretty BS, but all of Nintendo's DL games are overpriced. They have the same problem with DSiWare being more expensive than the same game on itunes. Plus the itunes games often get updated frequently, sometimes even with more levels and stuff for FREE.
I guess it's still cheaper to use VC than to buy an Xbox or PS3 for the games that are cheaper on VC. Still, hopefully they'll look at some sales numbers and realize they can make more money selling digital copies for less, since costs are pretty much negligible in most cases to put them up there.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
Here is a point of view nobody seems to take: I don't want HD revamps of my favorite classic games, maybe cause I am old and didn't grow up in the PS1 age. I just want to be able to play Mario and some other classics the way I remember them. So for me the VC is perfect. What I think needs fixing is all the junk that is thrown onto the Wii Ware service. If you don't want to buy a game for $10, don't buy it. Use that money on a game that has value to you. I would have paid $10 for SMB3 or SMW. But, luckily I didn't have to. I would like to see some Saturn games (since it was the same era as the N64 - but other than that I am very happy).

We (Europeans) don't. We had Spyro 2 for a while, but they pulled it back. And even if we get Tomb Raider or Resident Evil they would probably release number 1 and 3, and leave out number 2 like they did with Crash Bandicoot and Syphon Filter.
VC more than makes up for overpricing by making good games available for download. I don't care much about Xbox Live.

Can't comment on XBLA, never tried that, but the VC really kicks the PSN big time... like others mentioned, the library of the VC is much bigger and much more awesome..
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...

Is that it though? That's a pretty pathetic lineup to say the least both in terms of quantity and quality. RE is the only game there really worth a damn IMO and frankly, I'd rather just play the superior remake on my Wii anyway. Even the N64, which is the least supported system on VC, has a lot more games than that. Having access to LOTS of classic games on 8 different systems(plus some arcade games as well) is what makes VC great and worth the slightly inflated prices.
I understand what the OP is saying, and agree to some degree. It's awesome when games get improved graphics, online play, and better pricing on PSN or XBLA. But saying that either of those services is better than Virtual Console really depends on what you are looking for.
I like Virtual Console because there are hundreds of games available for... how many, are we up to 9 different systems? Most of those games would never get remade or released on either XBLA or PSN, and Virtual Console also provides the most accurate recreation of the originals games possible. (Note that living in North America makes the 50/60hz problems a non-issue for me, YMMV.) For every game that is greatly improved on XBLA, it seems there is one that gets kind of botched during the remake process... which is something I don't have to worry about with Virtual Console.
Do the benefits justify the extra cost? That depends on the buyer. For me, the answer is clearly YES.
(Brand new Wii games tend to be at least $10 cheaper than brand new 360/PS3 games. That doesn't automatically mean they are a better value though - it depends what type of gaming experience you want. However, if I'm consistently paying less for the retail games I buy then I don't mind paying a bit more for digital content that really appeals to me.)
XBLA really isn't meant to compete with the VC (I don't own a PS3, so I can't speak for PSN). While there are several games you'll find cheaper on XBLA than VC, it just can't compare to the sheer volume of games.
Now, if you compare XBLA to Wiiware, then I will would certainly say that XBLA wins.
