Wipeout was an awesome game series on the PS1, but I don't like what they've done with the series recently. Are there any Wipeout style games on Wii? Preferably with kickass techno sounds.
PS F-Zero is the best Futuristic racer of all time.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
@Mahew - other than that admittedly awful-looking Wii iteration, the real current-gen Wipeout goodness is the PS3 iteration, Wipeout HD--mostly due to the fact that it displays in full 3D on 3D-capable TVs (yup--real depth @1080p and everything )
Doesn't help much that it still feels vastly, vastly (VASTLY) inferior to F-Zero GX on virtually ever level...esp. since that games more than 5 years old.

Aren't Shin'en working on one for Wiiware as we speak?

I've played that and don't like it (see "I don't like what they've done with the series recently"). It just doesn't feel like the classic Wipeout games. The music's pretty forgettable, too.
There are none but I'm sure Manfred mentioned it in one of the Jett Rocket threads! Multiplayer was mentioned too.

Speed Racer for Wii is really kind of similar to PS Wipeout, futuristic racer. It's on a colorful undulating track with loop-d-loops, very high speed racing, and there are weapons (Car-Fu, you bump other cars from side or behind, or flip over them). There are booster pick-ups that make you go even faster. Pretty sure there is intense electronic music on the soundtrack, but I usually turn the music volume off on games and play my home stereo. Speed Racer has some motion-controls, making it Wii-unique. Game can be found used or discounted.
I happen to like Wii racers, and my favorite is Excite Truck. Also good is ExciteBots, which can be considered futuristic in a way (but more of a dirt road racer, with some flying, lots of jumping, not an on-track racer like Wipeout and Speed Racer).
On the famous MarioKart Wii, the Rainbow Road level is kind of like Wipeout, but kid oriented.
The only "futuristic" racer I can think of (and that has already been metioned) is F-Zero GX. You could always look around the interwevbs for a futuristic racer? Say, Miniclip.com?
And I don't really understand why you want a high speed racer with weapons... it ruins the speed and thrill of the game completely!
Sure, it doesn't have weapons, but F-Zero GX is your safest bet to be honest.
This http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2008/06/gyrostarr is more of a shooter but it has a F-Zero vibe and Techno soundtrack. Not played it myself but it got a pretty good review and its only 700 points, worth a try maybe? Unfortunatly there is nothing really like F-Zero until Nintendo get their fingers out and make one for Wii. Damn it
I really like Speed Racer, but if you want weapons it might not be the best choice. It does have some awesome and freaky boosts though.
But there is another futuristic racer for the Wii, called Speed Zone/Wheelspin, which you might like. It's not very good, but when I tried it with a force feedback wheel it played decently. I remember it having a battle mode with different weapons, but I am not sure they could be used in normal races.
If Shin'en is working on a futuristic racer that would indeed be great! There are far to few futuristic racers for the Wii...
I've already got Gyrostarr, and it's pretty good, but not entirely what I'm looking for. As for why I want a futuristic racer with weapons - it's the same reason why someone would want to play Mario Kart: it's just fun, and utterly ridiculous. Only, I vastly prefer the futuristic aesthetic.
I can't speak for Mahew, though.
I use the same username on TVTropes and youtube. look me up!
My virginity is one thing, but I can't let the pedophiles have my Wii FriendCode®
I also liked Speed Racer for the Wii. I thought this was a highly underrated game.
A game you must have is F-Zero for the Gamecube. It still looks incredible playing through the Wii in 480p. This is a FANTASTIC futuristic racer. You should be able to find it on E-bay or at a Gamestop. Just make sure you have a Gamecube controller and Gamecube memory card.
Heck, with the VC you can have the whole F-Zero trilogy: the orginal on the SNES, the N64 and the Gamecube version.
There's the Sonic Riders games for GameCube and Wii, but I don't think they're very good.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
