Well, I wasn't interested in graphical advances even in my C64 days so maybe I just see things in a different way and maybe that makes me unable to understand the meaning of graphics. Maybe that's the reason I haven't seen new consoles as graphically advanced machines. Surely they've been that too but I've always thought that's more like a side product of them.

I can certainly relate to this to a degree. I found much of the early 3D graphics of games on the N64 and Playstation to be hideous and much preferred sprite-based games of that era. It's only 3D games of the Gamecube/PS2 era that I can actually enjoy (though I do think simple, flat-shaded polygons as in the pioneering I, Robot have their own unique charm).

I look at a game like Deadly Creatures or Tenchu and just think "Wow that looks great!" the fact that it's not HD, the number of enemies or whatever doesn't even register. Games like Modern Warfare 2 just don't impress me; games like Muramasa do.

Plus, artistic titles, such as Okami, don't need (IMNSHO) HD graphics.

Currently playing: Gunstar Super Heroes (GBA), Infinite Space (NDS)

Punch Out one of the best titles of this generation? Overselling it much?
It's good and all, but not THAT good.

Well, in my opinion (and we were saying it as opinion not fact) that it was OUR game of this generation, the game that we got the most enjoyment out of. I agree that we were a bit OTT but to us it really is THAT good!

Yeah I would most definitely prefer developers to spend their time and effort pushing the Wii like Muramasa, A Boy and his Blob, Lost Winds, Rabbids Go Home (look at the art style, simple yet v.stylish) do instead of trying to reach the impossible heights of HD on the Wii because in reality its quite unnecessary.

Unrelated, anyway it seems many people here confuse graphics with HD, which is no the case. I can run many many PC games in my PC at the lowest resolution (way way lower than HD) and even so all of them will have far better graphics than the most perfect graphics doable in a Wii (in any past present of future Wii game). It is all a matter of memory for textures and CPU/GPU power to be able to draw multiple light sources, shadows, animate trees, wind effects real sun and reflection effects, transparencies, 5Km of average visual range in any game with maximum object and terrain detail, etc. At the very very end you have the screen resolution, which is the very only thing HD related. You can have an HD Wii tomorrow, and it will be immediately 6 years obsolete (as current one) unless you put there tons more of RAM and CPU/GPU raw power.

I understand that Wii games will never be on par with what can be done for the other consoles or PCs, but they are quite on par in € per game. Just an example, Zelda TP (a NGC game, not even Wii) is still being sold here for 57€. So, if the prices are the same, I guess all should be compared using also the same parameters in any review score-wise. Else I would not expect to have any Wii game more expensive than 20€.

@Mandoble: I'm quite familiar with your distinction between HD and high-power graphics, actually. I do tend to take shorthand that makes it look like I'm not, though. You're right...just adding HD resolution to the Wii still makes it somewhat outdated. But not AS outdated as you say. I've seen footage of Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii running in HD on that PC emulator...it's GORGIOUS! MASSIVE improvement over the same games running on my HDTV straight from my normal Wii.

Wii games cost the same as PS360 games in Europe? In America, they're routinely $10 cheaper (save for a couple retarded music games, Wii titles don't usually go over $50), or more (a lot of Wii games release cheaper still, like A Boy and His Blob released at $40).

Anyway, it's still a disservice to compare Wii games to PS360 games in reviews as it does nothing to help people who care about system-specific gameplay. That's Wii-only owners and people who know not to compare Wii and PS360 games alike.

Just been browsing GoNintendo and came across this comment, left after Game Informer gave Silent Hill: Shattered Memories a 6.5, thought it was an interesting insight into the mindset of some gamers:

"Eurogamer gives this a 9 and gameinformer a 6.5. I don't know about this game now. ign review just did not do it for me. I will just wait until this game is cheap before I buy."

It's very sad really and reminds me of why I started this thread in the first place

So...I have to wonder whether this guy actually read all three of the reviews he mentioned. Probably not. The idea that this split in scores would cause him to simply buy it later after price drops seems absolutely absurd to me. Why can't he just...I dunno...do some more research to come to a more educated decision? Sheesh.

I think a lot of you are getting of track in some places. A review is someone's opinion on a game, nothing more, nothing less. For all you Mario Super Sluggers fans, I actually agree with the bad scores it has received. I felt it fell short in every category to its predessesor on the GC which I loved. And to people who argue that they misjudge a game because its on the Wii, this usually isn't the case. Look at IGN's scores on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed or any Guitar Hero game. They're scores were higher than any of the other versions, because they are more fun or because they are exactly the same. I don't see Madworld getting bumped down scores because its on the Wii, but because it can be repetetive (not to say it isn't an awesome game). Most of the scores for Modern Warfare Reflex weren't based on the previous version, but for the actual game (except IGN). A lot of you are overreacting.
