People are literally throwing out their old CRT TV's. Just get one of those and save yourself some money and a whole lot of hassles.

The red-green-blue cables are all for video, the red-yellow-white ones only have the yellow as the video signal, the white and red ones are audio cables, so that won't work.

@SuperWiiU: thank you for your answer. So are you saying that I should get an adapter that splits the yellow RCA's signal into 3 ? if such a thing even exists..?

I think you're stuck with an expensive adapter or like @Mk_II said getting a dirt cheap CRT TV or even just a small second hand LCD TV.

@Ravenlord The difference between composite and component is that component splits up the red, blue, and green signals (with alpha also being sent across green), whereas, composite sends all of the video signals across the yellow cable (resulting in more signal interference and a blurrier picture). The audio signal is the same for both setups however.

As for your VGA to component adapter, unless the signal is being converted it won't work. (I too made this mistake a few years back when buying cables to hook up to my relatives tech while on vacation.)

However, if you're looking for a more economical setup, I would suggest you buy one of the many cheap Wii to HDMI converters on the market and then connect it to your monitor via a simple HDMI to DVI adapter cable (which doesn't require conversion). From there, you just need to worry about the audio. Depending on your sound system, you may need a 3.5mm to RCA adapter, or you may be able to run a 3.5mm cable from the Wii HDMI converter straight into your sound system.
If it's any reassurance, one of my friends just started using one of these these Wii converters and couldn't be happier with the results.

I hope you manage to sort it out.

Wow shinesprite, I sure wish someone would have mentioned this to me earlier.
The solution you proposed with the WII 2 HDMI converters is by far the most "elegant", I now wished I had done just that. I never even came across that product on ebay, because I was only searching for stuff like "Wii to VGA" or "component RCA 2 VGA" or "Wii VGA cable".

I resorted to buying a cheap 32" Toshiba wide(&flat)screen CRT for 20GBP, locally.
