I think Nintendo really should jump on the bandwagon and start re-releasing many of its hit games ala-playstation and 360. Obviously Nintendo games don't really drop from those $50 release price tags, but what about third party games being re-released? Something like No More Heroes might sell well with a $20 price tag and being put in stores again. I'm really crossing my fingers for brawl and mario kart wii to go down in price sometime haha.
I don't think they would sell more. Galaxy , Zelda and Mario kart won't ever drop in price (well not for a long while) and the third party games you speak of are already at ridiculously low prices (in the UK at least). E.g I can now pick up LKS,Endless Ocean,No more Heroes,De blob,HOTD overkill (the list goes on) all for £10 each new.So no I don't think a platinum collection would shift more units. The popular games and family orientated games sell like hot cakes so there is no need for Nintendo to drop the price.
i cant afford most of the games now even ones released 3 YEARS ago! The ones that should b on the list Twilight Princess Paper Mario Mario Party 8 Galaxy Smash Bros. Brawl MK Wii Wario Land Pokemon BR Metroid Prime 3 Mario Super Sluggers
1. Wii Sports 2. Wii Sports Resort 3. Wii Play 4. Wii Fit 5. Mario Kart Wii 6. Super Mario Galaxy 7. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 8. Super Smash Bros. Brawl 9. Animal Crossing 10. Metroid Prime Trilogy
Wii Fit Plus, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are set to change things the top 10.
Some games that were discontinued too soon could really benefit from a cheaper re-release, including WarioWare: Smooth Moves (I HATE how rare that game is!) and Super Paper Mario (also way too rare, though not quite as bad as Smooth Moves). Same thing with DS, actually. WarioWare: Touched, Super Princess Peach, Mario & Luigi: Parters in Time, and more (both first and third party) are insanely rare and could most definitely do with the Player's Choice treatment!
It's simply retarded that the Player's Choice system was cut in the first place. It had been running since the SNES, and it was working just fine that whole time! But now, great Wii and DS games are just being casually discontinued without the slightest consideration for those who didn't have the system at release or the possibility that they might sell more at a lower price.
I don't think Prime 3 will need a price drop from Nintendo...they discontinued it a while ago. It's all up to the sellers, now.

I can walk into any Wal-Mart and Target around here and see Super Paper Mario for sale. I had no idea it was rare. I agree that they need to bring back the Player's Choice series though. The 49.99 price tag is the only thing that has stopped me from getting Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy. I have bought several cheap third party games for Wii though. Next up: Deadly Creatures for 19.99 at Wal-Mart
I predict we'll see a few (I stress "a few") Player's Choice starting in Mid 2010 after the Holiday season rush. I'd love for Nintendo to do what a few developers did on Ps2, like add content to the P's Choice titles (a la DMC3, etc.)

Okay, so maybe Super Paper Mario isn't quite as rare as I thought. I don't see it around Gamestop all that often, at any rate. Granted, I see it more than the other games I listed, but not by very much.
@Objection_Blaster: With Iwata's BS about "fair price" and whatever, I don't think that's very likely. He'd rather a game be discontinued than price dropped and continue selling. Of course, he'd REALLY rather keep selling it at full price 16 million copies later... It's the one thing I really don't like about the guy, unfortunately. Nobody's perfect, eh?

Its the end of the world. A CEO is trying to maximise his companies profits.
nywho, I think it would make sense to make Metroid Prime 3 a bargain game now that the trilogy is out. Yes there is a chance that ill-informed people will think that the Metriod Prime series is crap if you do that and the Trilogy might not look as much of a bargain as it is but if they don't do it nobody in their right mind is going to buy Corruption. Either that or discontinue Corruption (probably the better option buisness wise)
The other one is Super Mario Galaxy. I think it would make sense to reduce its price when its sequel comes out I think. There is the obvious second step to that which is bundling the two together but as cool as it sounds I don't think many people would buy it. Another thought (also unlikely) would be that they could send you a "voucher" to download some sort of "Super Mario All Stars" title when you buy Super Mario Galaxy 2 (would make more sense with New SMB Wii). Promote it well and people will go nuts over it.
I never really thought about it, but why don't they have players choice anymore? that's strange. Luigi78 is right though. All those good third-party games have major price drops anyway. Except for maybe Sega's more popular ones.
@skywake: I already said they discontinued Metroid Prime 3 months ago.
Also, it's not the fact that Nintendo wants to maximize profits that bothers me, but the way Iwata hides behind some retarded sense of "fairness" for an explanation. "Oh, so the people who bought the game two years ago paid $50, but now you can get it for $30! That was so unfair to the people who bought it two years ago!" THAT'S what Iwata was saying, and THAT'S what I think is BS. That same BS is part of the excuse for no price drop on the Wii, even though it obviously needs one.

oh I didn't read that bit... news to me. I guess they came to the same conclusion I did
continuing on... I have noticed that (at least in Australia) a lot of these titles people have been mentioning have become ridiculously cheap. Take for example Mario Kart (which sells well) where some stores still try to sell it for the full RRP while others sell it for a lot less. Nintendo didn't need to do anything, retailers have competed and now a lot of games start there life with a RRP closer to $69-79 instead of $99. Maybe Nintendo should push out a bunch of Player's Choice titles but for a lot of Wii games thats already happening.
Having said that..... its a bit weird to see Wii games do this when DS games haven't so much. Its kinda odd to walk into somewhere like JB and see a $69 Wii Mario Kart next to an older $62 DS Mario Kart. Its not crazy to be standing in the isle of a shop and think "should I get this AAA Wii game for $79 or this AAA DS game for $69" here :S
@skywake: To be fair, I don't know what's been discontinued in Australia. Metroid Prime 3 has been in America, though. Also, would you happen to know the approximate exchange rate between Australian and American dollars? Mario Kart Wii has an MSRP of $49.99 over here, so that $99 just sounds CRAZY!
