This happens in pretty much every game and even on the Wii menu, although this is an extreme example; usually it's less noticeable. At first I thought it was my TV, but I brought my Wii over to my parents house and it's happening on their TV too, so now I'm thinking it might be the cable? I have a cheap 3rd party component cable from Amazon. Or, is this a normal effect on LCD screens?
Hmm, I often leave it on overnight to charge my remotes. Maybe you're right, it is sort of similar to the artifacts I got when I had a dodgy graphics card in an old PC... That would make me sad :[ I'll test it on my CRT when I get home.
So worst case scenario, what's the procedure for transferring WiiWare/VC content to a new console? Tbh a valid excuse to buy a black Wii might not be all that bad >:]
These sorts of devices have a standby mode for a reason. Leaving it on for extended periods of time would only cause your Wii to overheat (and this may have "cooked" your graphics card).
If you wish to transfer your downloadable content to another Wii, then you'll need to contact Nintendo directly, and I assume that you'll need to give them your serial numbers for both consoles.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

:[ it happens with a composite cable too. Guess I have broke it! It's OK for now, but if it gets any worse I'll have to get a new one. Hopefully it'll hold out for six months so I can see if there's any truth to this new Wii 1.5 rumour.
