Learning the ropes in a new game, especially one with so many diverse characters, such as Tatsunoko Vs Capcom can be hard and sometimes frustrating as u get pummelled over and over again by more experienced players, so I decided to share some of tips and tricks that I've picked up to help new players, and maybe some who have been playing since release date. Hopefully you guys will add some as well. (I'll update this post with the tips I receive and list them below):
1. Buy a Classic Controller/Gamecube controller/fightstick
The Wiimote/Nunchuck combi drastically limits your combo potential, a classic controller/gamecube controller/fightstick will allow you to play the game the way it was intended to be played.
2. Fighting against Zero
As many expected Zero has become a popular character online, he is quick, has cool moves and can string combos together easily. Because of this some have deemed him cheap but I disagree, Capcom in their balancing wisdom have made Zero very susceptible to damage meaning that if you land a few good combos you should have him on the ropes. Zero's combos (much like Ryu's) usually follow a distinct pattern so the key to beating him is to memorise these patterns and strike when he's vulnerable, also actively blocking, creating space between him and you and advance guarding regularly should give you the advantage. I find strong but quick characters with projectiles like Tekkaman, Megaman, Batsu, Soki and Ryu good against Zero.
3. Keits primer video
Learn the basics and some advanced techniques from TatsuCap veteran Keits. This updated primer helped me a lot!
4. The beauty of Baroque
One of the things that makes this game so awesome, in my opinion, is the baroque cancelling system. Never before have I seen a system that allows so much creativity. By pressing your attack+partner buttons at the same time you use up your red life (the life that remains after you are hit) to reset your characters position to neutral this allows you to string moves together that would normally be impossible! Most of you may already be familiar with this but here's an extra bit of coolness. The more red life you have when you perform a baroque assisted combo the more damage it does to your opponent! How cool is that!
5. Don't just focus on online
Many people have the miss guided idea that fighters are just about online play and while I agree that online play is a MASSIVE part of the modern fighter it is not the be all and end all. Thankfully TvC has a competent online system while not perfect is very, very good (I have had many epic matches against skilled opponents with little to no lag that have made me thankful that this game exists!). But there is more fun to be had I recommend using Arcade, Survival, Time Attack and Practice to the full upping the difficulty (this game has great A.I) when it becomes to easy and fine-tuning your skills. This game is too deep to be completed in a few weeks and I would recommend getting used to as many characters as you can not just searching for an effective team to main then just going online. Experimenting with the AMAZING and incredibly flexible combo system will keep you entertained for months, maybe even years (I have spent countless hours in practice mode just stringing moves together and making combos, I find this fun and I'm sure you will too). You are doing yourself a diservice if you don't play this game to the full!
Hope this thread becomes a useful resource for TatsuCap players, I'm still loving this game and hope u are 2!
Can you give me some tips on what control schemes better for a noob? I've been using the Wiimote lately and can't seem to land any specific moves and thus feels very repetitive.

I would definitely recommend getting a classic controller as the wiimote/nunchuck combo limits what you can do drastically. I play with a classic controller pro and its gr8!

I like smashing Zero with Alex when possible. It can be tough because Zero's so quick, but a well played Hyper Bomb (level3) takes off a ridiculous amount of life from Zero, and it's oh-so sweet.
@Chrono Cross - definitely find yourself a Classic Controller. Like Dru192 said, you're going to be very limited with just the wiiremote/nunchuck.

(Please correct me if I'm mistaken) With Wiimote and Nunchuck you have only A and B to attack. I personally, do not recomend the Classic, the button placement is terrible. Hopefully Pro will be better

The classic controller is practically an update of the snes controller ( http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2006/11/classic... ) with buttons in pretty much the same place and the snes controller is one of the best controllers of all time! But if its not for you maybe you could try using a gamecube controller or a fightstick as this title supports them also.
I like the CC for the control, but frankly these moves are just too damn difficult to pull off compared to SFII and it's a complaint I've had with every Street Fighter game since that classic game. I'll find myself just mashing the dpad around and pull off a move with no clue as to what I did (these are moves that aren't indicated in the move list you can display). There's no way I'm switching to remote and nunchuk, but this and the difficulty of the final boss are pushing me towards trading this in.
I'm with you, Sean. I end up resorting to button mashing just to use a super. Yami's first and second stages are fine, but the third get me aggrivated. :/

UPDATED added bulletpoints 3 - 5! Come on guys share your knowledge, I'm a bit saddened by the lack of love for such a great title only 3 weeks after release!
Yami is really cheap. Thats my only annoyance with this game.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Ditto. Have you checked out the official TvC forums over at Capcom Unity? More discussion going on there (as you'd expect).
Yeah I regularly check there but it still seems a little quiet, also check gamefaqs (which seems pretty hostile for some reason), the official nintendo magazine website and shoryuken. But I still find that theres no way as much community support as there should be. I'm thinking of starting my own little barebones blog with insta chat to arrange matches, set challenges and what not cos theres seems to be little out there for TatsuCap fans

Gamefaqs people are always hostile over something.
Yeah, I agree - not enough love for TvC. The only time I've seen anyone from my friends list online was the first week it was out. It's been quiet on that end since. Those battles with you were the last friend matches I've had, and that was about a week ago I believe.

I know its crazy, I've got one active rival who I wish I cud chat to as he's really gud and has a gud connection but the friends I've added on here don't seem to be actve either. BTW we should rectify our lack of matches by having a few ourself I mite b free for bit later if you fancy a match but I've got a week off work next week so I'll be putting in some quality TatsuCap time then!

I'll be heading out to class in a few unfortunately. If not later today, then maybe tomorrow!

I cannot say I've got a lot of hints and tips, but one thing I didn't notice right away is that you can call up the special move list for the characters using the pause menu and (using the CC) toggle through moves using the ZL and ZR buttons -- it doesn't make them any easier to pull off (not helped by the fact that the moves all have names that are completely meaningless so you don't know for sure which one you've reall executed), but it's brilliant compared to the old days of SFII where you just had to figure it out on your own. I'm old and don't have time for that crap!
I've been swamped with work (a good thing) so I have not played lately. I am going to try to pick it up again tonight. Hopefully I can start getting online once work settles down a bit.
