Recently bought a motion plus controller (my wii is an old school console - non motion plus) and we cannot seem to synch it to the console. Tried the pressing synch buttons etc - but doesnt seem to work. Is it possible to synch a motion plus controller to a standard wii console - or should I take it back to the shop and buy a non motion plus one?? Any help greatly appreciated

There should be no problem syncing a newer ‘motion plus inside’ labelled wiimote to an original model Wii. I have two that work fine.

Have you tried the following?

1) try new batteries. I find that some batteries seem to momentarily stop working and disrupting the signal.

2) is the sensor bar working properly? Try with an older remote.

3) sounds daft, but have you pressed the red sync button under the flap on the front of the console (next to the SD card slot) and under the battery compartment door on the remote (newer remotes have the button accessible from outside the remote; press with a pencil). Once both are pressed it should sync up in less than 10 seconds.

Thanks for replying Gamecuber - have tried all of the above - when we press the controller and press the synch button on the console - the controller lights just keep on flashing the four lights

Hmmm, that’s very strange. I take it you have an older wiimote that is working ok? If so then we can eliminate the sensor bar being a problem.

I would suggest trying the syncing process with the older remote that is already working. If that one re-syncs without issue then it must be your new remote. However, that needs balancing up with the chance that suddenly it will start having the same issues (and right now is not the time to have video game equipment start going wrong!)

Is your new remote a genuine Nintendo one? The only other thing I can think of is if it is a third party controller then that could be the issue?

I also found these online, they might help.

Power up your Wii console by pressing the power button on the front of the console. Open up the flap on the front of the console and press the sync button once it reaches the "Health and Safety" screen. Hold the button down while you count to 15 and then release the button. Replace the batteries in the remote.

I’d keep searching the Nintendo support site. You could contact them as well. If you bought it new it should still be under warranty. I’ve never dealt with them myself, but from people on this site Nintendo customer support is supposed to be pretty good.

Good luck!
