Wow....this is just sad. Can't anyone just shut up and be happy that there's a 2D Sonic game coming out?

People really need to stop complaining about Sonic 4. Sonic fanboys are total hypocrites: they beg Sega to go back to 2D, and when they finally do, they blueberry about the silliest of things: "Sonic's animation is odd, OMG this game sucks LOL!"

I for one am grateful that Sega decided to go back to 2D, just because I think that Sonic works better in 2D. I really can't expect a game so fast to be flawless in complicated 3D environments.

I figured out why this game needs to be episodic. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is 34 MB (according to the Sonic and Knuckles game manual), and that's with 1994 Genesis graphics and sound and no homing attack. If this game is going to be a good enough length to satisfy everyone, there's no way to fit it within 40 MB, at least not without hugely suffering from Monkey Island WiiWare syndrome.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

It's basically an edited Sonic Cycle:

1. First word on new Sonic game. Anticipation.
2. Game promises to return to its roots. Internet gets excited.
3. First look at game proves the above to be actually true. Internet whines anyway. Presumably because they're used to doing it.
4. Game released, game is really good. Internet still continues to claim that Sonic is ruined forever and will never be fooled again.
5. Loop to 1.

Oh and by the way? Sonic 1 was released in 1991. Anyone who complains that this game is ruined because it was supposed to be a back-to-its-roots game and Sonic's new appearance contradicts that, allow me to point something out. YOU ARE AT LEAST 20 YEARS OLD, QUITE PROBABLY OLDER. GROW THE **** UP.
That's not to say anyone over 20 shouldn't still be playing Sonic games (hell, I am and I will definitely be playing this once I'm done with my copy of Pokémon), but by the time you're this age you really should have grown out of bawling over what your favourite talking animal cartoon character looks like.

CHUNKS YOU SEGA AND WITH A CHUNKING DOG-BOTTOM GAY NEW MODEL AND CHUNKING PLASTIC SAUSAGE AND ROBOTNIK’S NEW CHUNKING NAME EGGMAN THAT CHUNKING SOUNDS LIKE QUEER! (ed note: actually sounds more like egg-man to me) Seriously I am CHUNKING LEMONED! I am not buying this game, period! And I am not going to buy a SINGLE Sonic game again even if it’s good, SEGA faisl (ed note: spelling faisl) too much, I’m not paying them SAUSAGE so they give us more failure, I gave Sonic 06 a chance, FAIL, a gave Sonic Unleashed a chance, FAIL, I gave Secret Rings and Black Knight a chance, FAIL, I gave Rush and Rush Adventure a chance, NOT WORTH THE MONEY, I gave Chronicles a chance, GOOD BUT TOO EXPENSIVVE THE LENGHT OF THE GAME IS CHUNKSHORT SO FAIL!, I gave Shadow the Hedgehog a chance, DUDU DIARHEA, (ed note: Dude, don't stop with the swearing now, people might think you're in some way mature) I gave Sonic Rivals and Rivals 2 a chance, BIG BOTTOM FAIL!, the last good game worth the price was probably Sonic Heroes but it wasn’t great, it was an ok game, but the last good game was released back in the Dreamcast era, SONIC ADVENTURE, Sonic Adventure 2 sucked (Ok graphics were worse then Sonic Adventure 1, music sucked, levels had much worse design, etc. Also when I want to play as Sonic/Shadow I am forced to play as Knuckles/Rouge or Tail/Eggman, FAIL)… Sonic Advance was cool but Sonic Advance 2 sucked, Sonic Advance 3 was ok. Oh and don’t let me get started on Sonic on GBA! SEGA took a dump on me too many times, my vengence has begun, NO SONIC GAMES FOR ME ANYMORE! (ed note: aaawww, what will Sega do without your worthy presence?)

Wait, what? Why does "MarioFanBoy (Sega Blog)" get parsed as "Sextoys"? I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE QUOTE AUTHOR TEXT.

Goshdarnit, you're right. If you remove the quotes it becomes sorta fixed, though.

For the love of crap, some of these fanboys are hilarious. As long as Sonic 4 is good, I don't care about the character design. This proves that there are some people out there who look and complain about the most minor details.

We all should be glad we are going to probably get a decent Sonic game.

Is nobody else concerned that Sonic 4 will retain the homing attack from his post Mega-Drive games? If this is a return to roots, and the gameplay is 2D, why is it still required? Wasnt it just added to his 3D games to ruduce the frustration of aiming in a 3D space?

Maybe they'll just make it a power-up, like the Bounce Bubble and Air Dash were in Sonic 3? That's what they should do, anyways.

Mmmmm....I would imagine it will be a constant through out the game, much like the DS Advance games. Unfortunatly.
The bubble bounce, fire/air dash, spark jump and double jump flash thing as seen in Sonic3 were all pointless novel additions, but at least they didnt interfere with the gameplay. I'm just worried is all, I need this game to be right!!

Personally I'm glad the homing attack is still here. One of my favourite things in the 3D games is chaining attacks across enemies to bridge a large chasm, and I'd be more than happy to see that feature return in 2D. It could make for some intense boss fights too, having to attack targets to make your way up/across to somewhere where you can damage Eggman. There's no rule that says you have to use it for every enemy you come across, and personally when its not required I'll be killing enemies old-school style with a standard jump or a roll.

The only complaint I have is that they should have called it Sonic 5. I do not see why Sonic and Knuckles is not part 4.

Sonic & Knuckles is part 3.5, the half of Sonic 3 that wouldn't fit on the first cart.
