There's also the issue of price. I have yet to get Fire Emblem for the Gamecube because every online auction for it breaches the £30 mark and I have tough time justifying that for a Gamecube game; even when I have been prepared to pay that price someone else takes it higher! I think in North America it's a lot cheaper than here in PAL-land for some reason...
I'm pretty sure the next console will be compatible with Wii games and, if they're going to do Wii games they'll also make it compatible with GameCube since they're essentially the same hardware.

Oh yeah you're right. I got lucky. Last July I found it at Walmart for $15. The Castlevania Double Pack for the GBA seems to go for a high price as well, and I found it at Gamestop for around $10.
I love it when that happens.
If the next system has a hard drive, I could see them putting GCN games up. Especially since 1.5 GB or less shouldn't take THAT long to download. (Compare this to the 6 GB downloads for Games on Demand on the 360)

i doubt it. Nintendo tend to phase out backwards compatibility. See how the DS phased out the GBA's compatibility with the GB? And how the DSi phased out compatibility with the GBA? Although in both their cases, they were both handhelds, not consoles. Even so, I'd still think they would phase out the Gamecube for their next console.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
