Hey Adam, Yeah I've been watching this for a while. I hope we get the awesome remote holder Japan got as a pre-order bonus. <3 Atlus.

I am going to miss rescuing you in this game Adam but if you ever need help in the original Shiren just let me know.

OK, I'm holding you to this.

Want to rescue me? I'm at Table Mountain, floor 20 or so. If you don't feel like it, that's fine. I just got Izuna 2: Return of the Unemployed Ninja in the mail, so I'm going to be playing that for awhile anyway (it's another dirt cheap DS dungeon crawler). If you're interested:

I also sent a request online in case that's easier (my number for that is rescue number is 0000-0001-4021, in case that matters). Since the forum still doesn't have a search feature, I have no idea where the old DS thread is to post this in, so we'll just have to deal with a little tangent for the time being.

@Adam: So you fell in Table Mountain huh? You got pretty far this time. I know how tough those monsters can be in there. I just hope that I can actually rescue you. I'll do my best. Let me know how Izuna 2 is. I played the first one and it was incredibly difficult but I still enjoyed it. I want to pick up Izuna 2 but I'm having trouble finding myself a copy of it.

I've made it to Table Mountain many a time. I got to the part after what I think is the last town twice but didn't last long either time.

Izuna 2 is hilarious. It's very colorful, too, which I love. My main complaint is the Japanese names for items makes it very hard to remember what is what, so I never know what to pick up without checking my inventory to see what things do. As for difficulty, it's definitely hard at first, but I don't imagine how it could be truly difficult since your level never resets. Seems like anyone would beat it eventually with persistence, but I have barely played it so far, so maybe I'm missing something. Not as good as Shiren, certainly, but unique enough that it's worth playing. If you're having trouble securing a copy, look no further than Ebay: $10, free shipping.

@Adam: I was so damn close to rescuing you! I made it to Table Mountain on the 21st floor and I had you in my sights but I was outnumbered and ill-equipped to deal with the horde of monsters from that monster house. I was doing so well too. I managed to get my level up to 23. I upgraded my polearm to a plus 4, my iron shield to a plus 3, had a good supply of iron arrows, a rust-free armband and even a decent amount of big riceballs. I thought that I was unstoppable but my luck ran out. I'm really sorry Adam; I was so sure that I would be able to get to you that time. Well, I still have two more tries left so I will give it another shot tomorrow. Man, sometimes this game can be so unfair but I still love it!

Yikes, good try, man, and thanks! I had some great stuff at that point, too, but I think I was underleveled because I always rush through the swamp area.

I can remember playing Nethack on the UNIX systems when I was in university. Hard as hell. This looks like it could be good for a bit of fun. Is it pick-up-and-play or is there a story like a normal RPG?

There is a JRPG-style story, something new to the series which has generally been more traditionally light on story. I don't see this as stopping the game from being "pick-up-and-play" though. It's still supposed to be focused more on the game play than the story.

Cool, I may check it out then. I don't suppose anyone's picked it up for a European release -- Rising Star perhaps?

@Adam: Bad news my friend. I am sorry to say that my third and final attempt at your rescue has ended in failure. I came really close again on my second attempt last night but died in that monster house on the 21st floor of Table Mountain. My final attempt wasn't even close, I died a cheap and humiliating death because I had no recovery items. I wish that I could help you but unfortunately this time I cannot. Maybe someone else on here can give you a hand? I hope that I can redeem myself by rescuing you sometime in the near future.

@Vaynard: The Wii version of Shiren the Wanderer should be available on February 9th.

@Mickeymac: I really hope so too. Here are a few screenshots that I found for Shiren the Wanderer 4:

Looks nice. Sad that we'll be getting the old one around the same time Japan gets the new one, but I'm more excited about the Wii version anyway, and I'm sure it'll keep me busy until this comes out.

Well, this game is getting closer to coming out. It has a release date of February 9th in the US. I will probably end up getting it through Amazon. I tried to pre-order it through GameStop but it turns out that you can't pre-order it in their stores. They are only doing it online and they cannot guarantee that they will even stock it in their stores either. If you are thinking about getting this game then just get it at Amazon, it's cheaper and they offer free shipping.

Dang, thanks for the notice, Wolfy. I tried preordering it at Gamestop, and the guy had me repeat the name and spell it multiple times only to finally tell me he'd never heard of it and his computer hadn't either. I was assuming they would get it in stores. I guess I'll have to get it online to be safe.
