it's clear from the trailer that other M is keeping the first person viewpoint of the prime series; maybe it'll be like zelda where you can switch to first person view at will, or instead will be an involuntary switch made at certain parts of the game, but either way it seems cool that you'll still be able to do it. it makes me think about the other things the trilogy introduced that i want to see again, such as-
the tractor beam effect when charging your gun. it's completely awesome to be able to draw in your pickups and if they ditch that ability i'll be stunned with crappiness.
using your ship to travel between destinations instead of backtracking, which may have been an even better 'corruption' innovation than the motion controls. of course you still backtrack, but it's manageable and the pain-in-the-ass element of it is taken away. i wouldn't be surprised if other M may even have you flying the ship around manually and shooting things, given the heavy action and emphasis on diverse gameplay we've seen.
there are a few things i don't want to see, but am pretty sure we're going to anyway- corruption's corny voice acting and cinema scenes. given the emphasis on story this time i have some faith that the cinema scenes will actually have content you want to see rather than a bunch of cliche action lines, but it's still uncomfortable to see metroid losing it's isolating quality more with each new game. samus taking a speaking role leaves only link left standing in the world of silent protagonists... why does every character need to speak now?
can't wait until we get some actual information; it's so hard to peg what other m will be like that i've never been this curious about an upcoming game before (hence the long thread)
I hope we get some more info on Other M soon, because I'm still salivating because of that trailer from last year's E3...

I don't know from the early footage I saw it looks like it will be involuntary. Some of the fights showed wrestling moves that would be difficult to pull off in first person. I think it should be good though since Nintendo is overseeing the development. I hope we don't get the crappy camera or insane difficulty from Ninja Gaiden or the bouncing whatsits from Dead or Alive.
I hope we get to actually fly Samus' ship--Corruption had all those cool levers and buttons inside the ship but you never actually got to manually control it. My only hope is that it feels like a Metroid game--I think good voice acting and a strong narritive could really advance the series, but I also hope there's a bit of puzzle solving from the Prime games combined with the high-octane action that we've seen in Super Metroid and now Other M.

Wait.... are you talking about Nintendo protagonists? If not, ever hear of a little game called Chrono Trigger? Anyway, I think the tractor-charge (which is what i'm calling it, deal with it) should stay, as well as special beams that require ammo like in MP2, but make it so they're not required, they're just special, more powerful weapons.

Agree with everything. I was disappointed that you never got to use that awesome attack mode button in the ship for anything.

one thing i can say for sure... i hope they changed the goofy color pallet since E3. the cinema scenes were incredible, but the gameplay was full of overly-bright and hideously matched colors (green/pink bugs, crayola-vomit reptiles)... i'm open to whatever they do, i just hope it ends up a little easier on the eyes.
