Topic: NSMBW Platinum Stars.

Sup peeps,

Some of you in your internet travels might happen across the information that if you complete NSMBW without losing a life, thats all 9 worlds, all Star Coins, you can get platinum stars over normal ones. This is a hoax, you don't get that.

Beating the game without losing a life is actually very doable - you can save at every ghost house, every mid-level fortress, and every castle. This, along with the save-when-you-like option that gets unlocked when you beat Bowser, coupled with the warp cannons, makes the job of all 9 worlds and all star coins without losing a life a task the more skilled of us can do.

Alas, there is no real reward for it though.

Just thought I'd mention it, as this hoax is spreading across places like GameFAQs and the like.

Wow, there are already hoaxes and rumors of NSMBW? It is actually common for Mario games to have hoaxes, such as the Luigi is in SM64 rumor.

I heard a rumor that if you throw all your friends to a pit until they have 0 lives they will hate you. wait that is a real one
on topic i thought this one was a real one, but then i figured that is nearly impossible to do so, world 7 levels are really hard.

I hadn't heard of this hoax. I guess that's because I don't spend much time on forums other than Nintendo Life. That's a stupid enough claim that I would have written it off in a second anyway. I'm quite happy with my very real five gold stars.

Shame there's no extra bonus after collecting all the star coins in World 9 and finding all the secret exits other than the "YOU COMPLETED EVERYTHING IN NEW SUPER MARIO BROS WII!" message. I WANTS MOAR REWARD.

@Raylax: I agree. The reward for completion of the game is absolutely pathetic. At least NSMBDS and Galaxy had Luigi mode to unlock! Why couldn't this game have had Wario and Waluigi to unlock and replace the Toads?

New SMB DS had a Luigi mode to unlock? Are you talking about the button combination on the file select screen or something else?

about hoaxes in Mario games. Does anyone remember the "unlock Super Mario Galaxy DS" one? I think that was probably the worst "hoax" I have ever seen. Completely unbelievable.

I know nothing about a button code. I was referring to the prize for collecting all the Star Coins in the game.

So yeah, just to recap - you can get 5 stars max, get them without triggering the super guide and they shimmer, get them and trigger the super guide and they don't.

Oh, so the "shimmering" thing WASN'T a joke? Well, I know I never activated the Super Guide, so I guess they're shimmering. I'm not sure what you really mean by that, and I definitely don't know what the difference is.
