Topic: Most imaginative games?

Every time I ask my friends what game I should buy, they refer me to an xbox FPS or something like that. That's why I love Nintendo - they're so imaginative; creating amazing worlds of fantasy and exploration. They try to steer away from realism, and realize that a lot of people want to be taken out of their world when playing games, not just placed into a WW2 warzone or something like that.

Skyward Sword is already looking beautiful - I'm really anticipating the world above the clouds. I also think that's why I didn't enjoy Twilight Princess as much... the whole realistic look doesn't compare to the idea of a "moving painting". Saddens me to see so many people who hate that decision. =(

I'm kind of an noob to the list of Wii games out there... So what are some games you consider to be really imaginative and out-of-this-world?

Chrono_Cross
  • Super Mario Galaxy 1&2
  • Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
  • Excite Truck
  • Wii series
  • Super Paper Mario
  • Super Smash Brothers Brawl
  • Mario Kart Wii
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy
  • New Super Mario Bros.
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Metroid Other M
  • Sin and Punishment 2

I know this isn't necessarily a recommendation thread but I did go out of my way to list a ton of Nintendo games off the top of my head that are what you are talking about. By the way you have a very disturbing avatar.

Just for you.

Eternal Darkness on gamecube was really imaginative with it's sanity effects. Geist on gamecube was a really imaginative gameplay idea with the ability to possess people, animals and objects.

If you are refering to just artistic imagination then wind waker is by far the most imaginative Zelda. It's art style and unique combat system make it a standout in the series. Okami is also very cool artistically. Possibly the most imaginative ds games I own is Alice in Wonderland. It has both a unique art style and gameplay.

and these.

And I would also like to add (Super) Paper Mario and Yoshi's Island to that. (Not sure if you only meant to talk about Wii-games though).

Excitebots is so imaginative it's borderline CRAZY
MDK2 is as good as they come in this department as well (out on WiiWare now).
Pikmin for sure, better yet Pikmin 2 (they were both re-released for the Wii with enhanced controls)
Elebits and Zack & Wiki are also fine examples of creative design, and I feel Little King's Story and Chibi Robo are also worth a mention. Luigi's Mansion, too!

Ghost Trick Phantom Detective is undoubtubly up there, love Phoenix Wright too, you might want to give them a try! And just for pure greatness, Okami and Okamiden.

Jango-Forest

Little King's Story, Zack and Wiki, Okami, and the two Galaxies.

Oh wow, Klonoa looks great. And I agree about the music.

When I think imaginative, I think, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Sonic Colors, Kirby's Epic Yarn, A Boy and His Blob, and And Yet It Moves.

I'm back (for the moment)!

TKOWL

The Warioware series. Seriously, it's staggering how much it can do so much with only a couple of buttons/control schemes. Only Nintendo could bring us games this innovative.

Imaginative games for Wii? Where do I start....

Kirby's Epic Yarn
Mario Galaxy 1&2
Warioware: Smooth Moves
De Blob
Excitebots
Okami
Sonic Colors
Zack and Wiki
Super Paper Mario
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Epic Mickey
Little King's Story
Madworld (seriously, its pretty imaginative in a mature way)
And Yet it Moves
Art Style: Light Trax
Fluidity
LostWinds 1&2
World of Goo

That's all I got off the top of my head. There are a ton of really imaginative, creative games on the Wii which really make it different from a lot of the same old types of shppters on 360/PS3.

Strange that people list Super Mario Galaxy 2 as imaginative when it's more or less a rehash of the first game.

Mushroom Men! You play as a little shroom guy from another planet. It really makes the human world look pretty strange. Bizarre music by Les Claypool really adds to the experience as well. Definitely give Mushroom Men a try if you want a truly imaginative adventure/platformer.

Also try Chibi-robo on the Cube.

I 2nd, 3rd, whatever, Klonoa. It is a beautiful game in almost every way and really does a lot to make these great worlds out of what could have been just video game levels.
