Well, Midway is up creek without a paddle financially speaking, so that probably isn't going to get them here any faster. I imagine we'll see them sometime, but I kinda doubt it'll be the arcade versions.
Back in the day I was wondering/majorly kept obviously saying that the MK games need to come to the VC... yet that was way back on NSider & NSider2 forums, (if anyone ever visted them)!
Yet I'm not worried though if the MK games come to the VC or not; but I still prefer the SNES MK games because I had those for my SNES when it worked a long time ago! I'm a big Mortal Kombat fan & I prefer the classic 2D graphics & gameplay over the 3D games; even if I enjoy some of them as well! So I still need to get the Midway Treasues 2 game for the GameCube; since that's going to be my solution to getting the classic MK 1 & 2 games; instead of waiting for them to appear on the VC! Also I still enjoy & play my UMK DS game & Armageddon to this day!
Actually Midway Treasures has Mortal Kombat 2 and 3. Not sure why they left 1 off?
If I remember, Midway released Midway Arcade Treasures 2 around the same time as Mortal Kombat Deception, which had MK1 as a pre-order or special edition bonus.

Anyway that's what people should get for their GameCube/Wii; that way we don't need to worry! Yet the topic will always come up to haunt us; and we always know that... like today! Yet I already said I still need/desire to get the Midway Treasures games anyway!
The reason we're not getting MK is the same reason we're not getting DLC for MK vs. DCU: Midway is bankrupt. I doubt we'll ever get an MK game. I don't really care because I have MK II and MK 3/UMK3, and MK I wasn't good.
Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction. - Albert Einstein on the Wii
Never say never. If Time Warner ends up owning it, the company will probably become the core of the new Time Warner Software division. I can imagine that compilations of arcade classics or VCA releases will be forthcoming in order to leverage classic IP. It certainly cannot hurt to mail Midway support to let them know; I've been doing that for months. You have to register an account, but the response time is quite rapid.
It doesn't matter which company buys Midway; we were promised the MK games sometime on the VC when they said so when the VC launched... yet that's one failed promise not kept btw!
@SeanAaron: I dunno. Time Warner has done some questionable things to a lot of their franchises in recent years. Some good. Some bad. Maybe if they get enough demand from the fans, they'll put the games on the various DLC services.
@ND799: Most people want MK1 purely for collective purposes. After all, the game marked a very prominent moment in gaming history.
On top of that I was mostly more familular with the first MK on the SNES when I owned it; for I could do the finishing moves a heck of a lot easier than any other later MK games! Same could be said about MK2 on the SNES; but some I had to use cheats in order to know how to pull off some moves! In other words I didn't like the added finishing type moves in later games since then, like animalities & babalities! Yet I still loved playing all of the games! The ones I had/played on old systems were the SNES MK's 1 & 2, Trilogy & 4 on the N64; & I didn't play any of the 3D ones but tried Deadly Alliance... & as of now I only got Armageddon for the Wii!

Well, they seem to be more serious about doing the video game thing than they have been since even before they sold Atari Games to Midway (oh the irony) so I'm hopeful. Of course if you do mail Midway asking for the classics you'll get what I do: a message saying they don't accept game submissions from fans -- of course I'm not submitting new game ideas, but I guess the support people that read the mails cannot tell the difference...
Question. If you guys had to choose, would versions would you prefer; the SNES versions or the Genesis/MD versions? I'd personally like the Genesis/MD version of MK 1 simply because it retains the blood, but the SNES versions of 2 & 3 since they have the blood and also have better graphics and sound.
Although I agree with OP, the arcade versions are definitely the way to go.
I thought Midway was dead? Or did I miss something?
Yep Midway did go bankrupt but Warner Bros got the MK rights hence why a new MK game is in the works now.
As for porting the SNES and Gensis versions of MK those versions were produced by Acclaim games which went bankrupt a few years ago. Someone else bought the Acclaim name but that Acclaim just went bankrupt as well so I dont know who has the rights for the SNES and Genesis ports.
As for the Arcade port to the VC I am guessing that since WB owns the MK rights they just dont want to bother with the VC.

If they release the SNES version, I'll avoid it like the plague. I had it for a few days, and it sucked. It had come with a used SNES I bought (along with many other games). I ended up selling it, along with several other games that came with the system.
The Genesis version is probably better.
