Topic: Is the Wii worth buying just for Gamcube games?

The one thing the Wii u virtual console lacks are gamecube games. Since I have wii games I play on the Wii U, I would buy the wii just to use it to play gamecube games. But the games I am interested in aren't smash or mario kart. And if yes, it would be awesome if you could suggest some games that aren't mario or zelda.

Also the wii and not the gamecube because I am not sure how well the gamecube would connect to new televisions.

You should know that many GameCube games are crazy expensive nowadays. The rare stuff can cost you an arm and a leg. Still, it has one hell of a library and I'd say it's totally worth whatever price you have to pay for a Wii.

There are... other ways to play GameCube games on Wii. Just saying.

In any case, if you're looking for recommendations, there's tons of amazing games in there:

  • Beyond Good & Evil
  • Chibi-Robo
  • F-Zero GX
  • Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
  • Ikaruga
  • Killer7
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
  • P.N.03
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Second Sight
  • Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
  • Tales of Symphonia
  • TimeSplitters 2
  • Viewtiful Joe

And many many more.

If you deside to buy a Wii beware that some older models cannot play gamecube games.

@MarcelRguez
What other ways do you mean about playing gamecube on the wii? Also I can find alot of games for under 60 dollars used. I found sunshine for 20 dollars used on gamestop.

I personally would keep a GCN around to attach the GameBoy Player. Some Wii's later on lost the ability to run GCN discs and even took the controller ports out and memory card spot out. Just be a mindful shopper.

@FelixTheMagician Ways we can't openly discuss in these forums without breaking the rules.

Those exact same ways to play gamecube games on the Wii also work on the Wii U btw.

And I think this forum's policy was you can't talk about emulation of current gen stuff. It certainly seems fairly harmless discussing unofficial ways to play GC games given that there are no current official ways at all.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Hello.
Are you ready to play your Gamecube games on Wii ?
Listen this first.
Choose White Wii with vertical position as the cover because that model can play Gamecube games.
Don't ever choose the Black Wii with Horizontal position on the cover, because that model doesn't have Gamecube backward compatibility.
Also, prepare Wii Component cables + 2043 block Wii/Gamecube Memory Card (trusted 3rd party gamecube memory card)
When you have all those requirements, assembly that on your Wii, insert your Gamecube games, use Wii mote to Enter Gamecube Mode on the Upper Left screen and Voila... !
Enjoy your Gamecube games on Wii.

Oh, btw. Gamecube and Wii are Region Lock. Make sure your games Region are matched with your Wii's Region.

Oh. I play these Gamecube games (Non Mario games) :

  • Harvest Moon Magical Melody. Extremely cute and quite fun.
  • The Sims Bustin' Out. The Sims 1 on 3D rendering.
  • Kao the Kangaroo Round 2. A Boxing Kangaroo in 3D platform games.

As Wii Component Cables are a little easier to find than Gamecube Component Cables; yes I would say so.

You can mod the wii and increase its value by 1000%. I still boot up my wii to play english translations of FE2 and FE4. You can also download any GC game to an sd card and play it on a modded wii.

@FelixTheMagician answer to your question is no because you have to find gamecube controllers memory cards that's right you gonna need more than one memory card plus theirs like 10 worthy games (i love being controversial) and you know they will rerelease them eventually.

@BOBTHING I found a memory card for like 10 on amazon and the smash controller is like 10-15. Also found a wii that is gamecube confirmed on ebay for 50 dollars free shipping and the seller has 99.9% positive reviews. And I found sunshine for 20 used on gamestop.
