I have to ask since I'm seeing Genesis games released on the 360 and PS3 now. Gunstar Heroes and Altered Beast are a few titles that have been or will be released on the 360 and PS3. If you had your choice of Genesis game, which system would you rather play it on? I'm really not sure if the HD consoles get graphics upgrades but I doubt it. Control would be the only influence for me and I'd choose the Wii for two reasons. The first reason would be to keep it simple. Old school games should be released on the Wii if possible. My second reason would be control. I'm used to using the Wii remote for Genesis games and if needed, I'd choose the classic controller over my PS3 controller for a Genesis game.

The Genesis Collection is great value for money, so it really depends on how many of the games in that collection you want. If it's only a few then I'd say go with the VC downloads; if it's all of them that's going to cost a lot more than the disc; if playing with the CC makes it worthwhile for you then go for it!
Don't forget that Golden Axe and Altered Beast are coming to the VCA; so I'd hold of on those if you do plan on getting downloads because whilst the Genesis ports are good, the originals are better.
I only regret buying Beyond Oasis because it's on Sonic's Genesis Collection that I purchased for PS3. I didn't go through the whole game again though. I just explored as far as I needed for the trophy. All the other genesis games I have such as Eternal Champions and Landstalkers were not included in the collection. Gunstar Heroes is one of these games being released multiplatform so I wonder if there's new features for the psn and xbl.

I have to look up Genesis games that are in compilations. Quite a few are (as well as Neo Geo games). I haven't bought a single Genesis game on VC yet. When I do, I hope I dont find out that it is (or will be) in a compilation at a better price. I'd love to buy a Sega VC game. I thought about getting splatterhouse 2. I'll be mad if I get this and it to comes out in compilation.
I think multiplatform games that are released as Genesis games are OK to buy on Wii. Earthworm Jim is a great example (there's also Clayfighter). I do own Earthworm Jim and it's a great choice since you can just use the Wii remote sideways.

@Bones00 - Thanks. If it's multi platform games, I'd have to have a good reason to get the Sega version and not the SNES, though. Are there many that are playable with just the Wiimote? That could be a plus. Wouldn't have to go get my Classic controller everytime I wanted to play one then too.
Wow, Gunstar Heroes is on the PSN now and it's only $4.99! I wonder if it has trophies too for that price. That's $3 than you would find it on the Wii's VC. Why cheaper on another console?

I think its a great series; yet they're fine beat em up side scrolling games with warriors & characters of medieval times... which is what I like about them! Also I still need to buy them on the VC; but I've seen them in action & tried it on the computer before!

I myself like a bargain. 40 games for 30 dollars is not bad. 40 x 8.00 dollars is (calculates) 320 dollars. I'm not spending that much on Sega Genesis games, sorry. EDIT: If you want to add that extra 20 on that would be... another 160 dollars. Wowsa!

The SNES and N64 are the only Virtual Consoles that require the CC/GC, though because the Megadrive/Genesis had three buttons it means you need to use the A button for one of them which is a bit awkward so I just use the Classic Controller anyway; ditto for Altered Beast on the VCA, though it has the advange of being able to remap the buttons as you see fit.
A lot of the older Genesis games has the same function for two of the buttons like Landstalker so it really wasn't very awkward after all. I see though that the PSN version of Gunstar Heroes even has trophies so when I can afford it, I'll buy it.
