I know IGN's reviews are usually bottom of the barrel especially when it comes to accuracy but this is ridiculous. Noone should let this crappy review deter them from the game: just read all of the comments on the forum. All comments have been positive, people claiming that the game deserves a 7, an 8 and even a 9 for some. The game's great and that's the point.
Admittedly, they brought out something in their review I didn't expect them to: the fact that the only character in the game's Story Mode is the girl "mechanic", Veronica. What happened to all the others?
@wollmaster: He also gave Water Warfare a 7.9/10 and Swords & Soldiers an 8.7/10.
He's given Overturn an above average score (It's almost a 6, guys). It's nothing special, but not horrible either.
According to dictionary.reference.com, mediocre means: "of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate."
I haven't played the game, but judging from the videos I've seen I wouldn't say it's far off the mark. I'm not knocking the game, I'm just saying it looks pretty average with a shallow gameplay experience.

But that's exactly what you're doing... And as many here can testify, the rating is pretty far off from the mark.

Are you saying that it deserves a high mark, based completely on how fun it is for the first few days? If I reviewed Wii Sports Resort on day one based totally on fun, I would've given it a 9. After a week of play, I wouldn't give it higher than a 7 or 8.
This is a critic's review. He's scoring this game's overall quality, and he (seemingly) justified the score by his views in the review itself.
I love a lot of games that were poorly scored by critics, but if I were a critic I wouldn't give them high scores just because I had fun with them. Like Water Warfare: it's one of my favorite Wii games, but, as a critic, I'd score it as a 7 based on the game's overall quality.
Personally, I'd love it if we removed critics from the face of the earth, and simply went to a simple recommendation system.
Ehh... he's not that far off, but his complaints aren't really all that off. His main complaint seems to be that there isn't an audience (that's the one that's brought up the most), and that's something that really shouldn't matter that much. The music is rather simple and it's not exactly that great either. There's few maps, and they aren't interactive either. But that's about where I'd have to stop agreeing with him.
The game is $8, and considering that, it's actually rather deep compared to other Wiiware titles. There's quite a bit to keep track of during the battle (HP, BP, Ammo stocks, Special Weapon Charge, enemy location), and keeping track of all of that is a key to victory. Not to mention he didn't even mention what happens when your BP is depleted. He seems like he completely ignored the fact that 4 bot matches are an option when he scored the game even though he mentioned it in the review as well.
That's a pretty piss poor review considering where it's from. I'd give his review a 5.7.

Where did you even get that idea? The game is deep, challenging, has moderate replay value, has online play, has BB support (have yet to try) and it's at a reasonable price. Surely the game doesn't deserve a "mediocre" rating in my books. I can still see myself playing this weeks from now.

Fair enough. A quick question: Beyond the game's robot customization, just how deep is it?
