The graphics would be taken from the All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3 to keep development costs down and would sell for 500 points. It would also play identical to the Game Boy version - but because the Game Boy version was able to show more blocks per screen than the All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3, there would be scrolling where before there wasn't any scrolling such as in the bonus rooms. There could also be a "Super Mario Bros. 3" version which plays identical to Super Mario Bros. 3.
View the links below and imagine that stage being redone with the background of the accompanying Super Mario Bros. 3 screenshot I've taken.
I personally didn't care for the all-stars graphical style. Also, it's highly unlikely they'll do a 2D Mario for WiiWare with New Super Mario Bros. coming out this year.

I thought it was amazing when I was a kid and was just seeing it announced for the first time. Everything looked so wonderful, unbelievably so when compared to the NES games.
Plus you're right about the New Super Mario Bros Wii game, I've had this remake idea kicking around for a while now long before that was announced.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
I loved Super Mario Land, it was one of my first Gameboy games, and one of the first games I beat as a child, it took me so many tries >_>. I'd love to see it in any shape or form on Wii.

Damn good point, it is quite surprising they haven't remade SML at all since it's release. Failing a remake I'd quite like the NSMBWii to have the fire flower fireballs constantly bouncing off the walls like in SML.
That was the one thing I didn't care for in Mario Land, actually. I prefer the normal fireball physics. It looks weird at that stiff diagonal, gravity-less bounce.
But Mario absolutely needs to get in a submarine again.
Ok, here's a little mock up I made, sure it's not super fantastic, but it gives a rough idea of what I expect the game to look like...
What I had in mind was something that kept the original flavour and resolution of the old game, but slap in way... more colours to make it look that little bit more sexy, yet retaining that retro gameboy look at the same time...
I think ultimately GameBoy games will be sold on the DSiWare service, similar to what the Virtual Console does now. I however, still own my copy of Super Mario Land

That's what I think too, and yeah I still own my copy of Super Mario Land too. But as far as I'm aware, SML1, 2, and Wario Land are the only Mario titles so far that haven't been ported or remade. Which is a shame because they need to be! A colourful version of Super Mario Land with redone music would be killer!
I've often wondered why Nintendo hasn't remade the three GB Super Mario Land titles on the DS. After the mammoth success of Super Mario All-Stars, it would make a fortune!
