Topic: Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn?

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and I need a little help.

I recently completed Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon on the DS. This was my first Fire Emblem game and and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am now considering buying Radiant Dawn for my wii and just wanted to ask those who have played it if they would recommend it? How does it compare to Shadow Dragon and would you recommend it to someone like myself who has only previously played Shadow Dragon?

I've noticed the Fire emblem games are hard to find (at least in australia) so I want to make sure it will be worth tracking down..
Cheers!

Here's the site review for it http://wii.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/03/fire_emblem_radia... if that helps any. Sorry I can't be of more help but I can't even remember the last time I played a Fire Emblem game.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn was my first Fire Emblem game. The story is intriguing and well thought out. And the difficulty never gets to high, to the point of frustrating. I highly recommend Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and have already started a second play through.

I would greatly disagree that the difficulty never gets too high or to the point of frustrating, and while I wouldn't go so far as to say most would agree, I know quite a few who would. I am playing Shadow Dragon right now and loving it.

That said, the difficulty did not stop me from enjoying the game. There are a lot of things to love about it. I would definitely recommend it if you are either good at the series or not easily frustrated. Keep in mind that you can't constantly bleed units in Radiant Dawn like in Shadow Dragon. In fact, aside from that armored girl who joins you early on, I don't think there's a single unit I would let die if I replayed it a third time. The game is definitely the hardest Fire Emblem game available to us.

True, and I think it'd be safe to say that most prefer the first one. I do, at least. Wow, just saw it on Ebay for only $30, too, and free shipping. It usually fetches over $50. I guess its price has gone down since I last checked.

agreed. Path of Radiance is A) a better game, and B) will give you a fuller appreciation for Radiant Dawn, especially since Radiant Dawn features a huge cast of characters, few of which are very fully developed. on topic, howver, it is good. it does get difficult towards the end, but it is NEVER insurmountable. the story is intriguing, but gets weird in the last section. a bit too weird for me. however, the game is still great, given the well thought out maps and the very lovable characters, so i recommend it heartily.

still i STRONGLY advise to hunt down Path of Radiance first and even buy a GC controller and memory card with it if you have to. it's the best Fire Emblem game to date, in my opinion, and you may very well be lost in certain parts of Radiant Dawn without it. plus, you get the added joy of seeing characters you've grown attached to grow up in addition to bonus content unlocked in Radiant Dawn by having a Path of Radiance save on your memory card.

Oh, I remember someone asking about the file transfer bug (where you transfer character stats from a completed Path of Radiance file to your Radiant Dawn game) earlier, and you just reminded me of it again. I copied this from fireemblemwikia.com:

However, there is a bug with this feature that causes the Wii to freeze when any Easy Mode data is present in the Gamecube memory card. Currently the only solution to this problem besides not using this feature is to delete any Easy Mode save data and use the save data of a completed Normal or Hard Mode game. In e-mails, Nintendo has announced a fix planned to be ready in mid-December. They have said the "solution will require sending in your Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn game disc in for repair. Once the disc is returned to you, you may then transfer the Path of Radiance save file information into a new Radiant Dawn save file". This bug isn't active in the European and Australian version.

[note: I have no idea if NoA's solution where you can send the disc in for "repairs" ever got implemented or if it is still implemented, but it's worth looking into. If you haven't played Path of Radiance yet and plan to do this, you'd be better off just not playing on Easy, if avoidable.]

Radiant Dawn is excellent, superior to Shadow Dragon in every way.

You would be better off playing Path of Radiance first, but since it's hard to find don't worry about it, playing PoR beforehand isn't that important anyways.

Ninten

It's hard when you try to make sure none of your characters die.

I should continue this game soon..

Well, I did just say that I found a $30 copy on Ebay, and I actually just noticed another copy for the same price. So unless you don't like using Ebay (I don't often use it myself), "finding" it's not a problem.

I don't like using eBay, so finding it for sale in store is hard

The only time I've seen it was $45 used at EB Games

Well, thought I had to chip in my views here. PoR is a good game; I heartily enjoyed it. I did, however, feel that RD had the edge over it, as there's just a bit more variety in the combat and the difficulty really made it a strategist's heaven. That being said, the presentation values aren't that great on either title, so it's hard for these to break above an 7/8 (which is still quite a bit above average, and certainly worthwhile if the genre is your cup of tea). I think PoR was one of the first reviews I did here; coming up four years ago!

Def play PoR before RD. For the 40 hours or so you'll be playing it for, you'll get value for money. Sell it on afterwards and make it back if you really want; it's worth getting hold of.

@Digiki Is the italicized part a quote from someone, or were you just talking a bit slanty at the time? I'm a bit confused, haha.

Also, just noticed the original poster said he's from Australia. In that case, I guess my Ebay finds aren't helpful at all, so nevermind! If you can't find Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn is a fine game on its own. I prefer PoR, but not by terribly much.

@Nanaki Some would say that the "Save any time, as much as you like" feature turns it from a strategist's heaven into something else entirely, as you can always make sure you don't get bad luck. I try my hardest not to abuse this feature, myself, but I really wish the game had a save system similar to Shadow Dragon, which offers three different kind of saves so that you never feel you have to keep playing if you don't want to, while not being quite as "broken" (as some say) as RD.

No I was just talking slanty, I was going to put asterisks around it, but then remembered that they wouldn't stay there

I completely agree with Nanaki.
I dont know about the DS titles, but Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn blew my mind

Path of Radiance is on my "to-buy" list, but I really don't want to be paying more than £20 for a Gamecube game. I agree that it's not really necessary to enjoying the story of Radiant Dawn since I still have yet to play Path of Radiance and I enjoyed Radiant Dawn immensely.

Scores of characters died in my game, but I had a good core group at the end; I really enjoyed the challenge and look forward to seeing different character's stories unfold the next time I play (assuming the same ones don't die again!).

Thanks guys, I think I may have to track it down now!

I'm also really interested in playing Path of Radiance but trying to find a PAL version has proven to be quite hard.

Thanks for your help, cheers!
