One of the essentials of the original LOZ was the map, since otherwise you'd end up going from dungeon one to dungeon eight . Does the suspend play menu have the map? My original got ruined, so I've recently been referring to online maps.

Unfortunately no, so you'll have to look online for one

Playing without a map is fun in its own right, but yea, the game was really designed to be played with the map. You can find a ton of them online though. I prefer having one printed anyway. Going back and forth between the home menu / operations guide for VC games is annoying. I have to do it for all my fighting games to figure out the moves.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

The original LoZ came with a map? O_o
Eh whatever I've essentially got the map memorized anyway.

I didn't know it had a map! I'm at dungeon 5 or something like that and I never found 2.

lol
I always had trouble finding dungeon 2. It seems everyone does.
To get to palace 2, go east 3 screens (forest screen, mountain screen, ocean screen), then go north 2 screens (forest, forest), then go west 1 screen (stairway), then north to get to the dungeon.

Edit: wow, that's way wrong. I just looked at a map and now it makes total sense why dungeon 2 is so hard to find.

Just walk around a bit, keeping track of where you have and haven't been. Dungeon 2 isn't hidden or anything.

Yeah, yeah. I'll find it when I've got everything else and I need the triforce. Unless it turns out I need an item from there.

No, there's nothing you need from dungeon 2.

There was one printed in the manual, if not separate (I'm not sure, the copy I bought years ago was the cart and manual only).

I thankfully still have the original map, complete with hand-drawn additions for the "blank" portions of the map and markings where most of the hidden stairways are. Of course, i've played through the game so many times by this point that pretty much everything is reflexively memorized.

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

You don't actually NEED the item in that dungeon at all. However, I recommend getting it ASAP as it will make your quest a lot easier.
And don't worry about the directions I gave before. They're rather incorrect.
