The Question is, what will Nintendo have in store for the Wii2's Virtual Console?....The Saturn and Dreamcast come to mind. And I'll be happy as long as I can transter my current VC/Wii Ware games to the Wii2. And ya, GCN games should also be on the Wii2's VC. But I'm wondering if they'll add the 4-GCN controller ports again, i mean they have too right?

You guys must really hate the Wii. It is only what, three years old, and you already want a new console from Nintendo? Give it some time.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Hopefully the next generation Nintendo console will also have Dreamcast games on it's VC...

@Burning+Spear: I think Nintendo will simply add an extension to the Wii Shop for the Wii 2 that won't be accessible to the original Wii systems. That way they won't have to worry about original Wii owners complaining about the shop going down, and at the same time not have the cost of putting up an entirely new shop. Also, they could have some Wii 2 promotional content in it, such as "Only the Wii 2 can download GameCube games".

That would make the most sense. Just have to wait and see. I'll be looking to see how they handle DSiWare -> 3DS very closely (probably along with everyone else here).

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

To answer the question: probably so.

if it does then it does if it doesnt then well thats what you have your original wii for right cuz i know i'll be keeping my consoles regardless. and regards to the download service i'll simply download the new stuff on the next console such as the exclusive to the new system and if a simple game is made for both that will be downloaded on the new one for me.

It will be - technically the Wii is backwards compatible with all previous Nintendo consoles because of the Virtual Console. Obviously you can't plug in your old cartridges at wouldn't be practical to do that, but you can download Nintendo's old cartridge games from those machines and play their old disc games through the disc channel. So I'd say Nintendo want to preserve their gaming history it's pretty much certain it'll be GameCube and VC compatible - if it's not I can see a lot of people being very unhappy.

I'd also really dislike the downloadable GameCube game idea. There are a lot of GameCube games I love that I can't ever see being re-released again - I'd hate to wait for them to hit the online store when I could just put a disc I already own into the drive.

I think it's more likely that Nintendo would launch the GameCube on the Virtual Console, and that's what I'd prefer too. =)

Ideally, I would prefer that too, except it takes so long for them to produce games for the virtual console. In fact, I'll say this: If the next Nintendo console starts the whole virtual console thing over from scratch -- in other words, the games on the current VC have to be gradually re-released all over again -- then I'd say don't bother.

I'm sure they wouldn't do that. That the Wii 2 would probably use the same shop as the Wii but would add some Wii 2 exclusive content. As well as Wii 2 exclusive WiiWare games and channels, on the VC side I would expect larger arcade games, larger NeoGeo games and maybe even some 32-bit games like how the PS1 version of Symphony of the Night was released on the XBOX 360. The Saturn and maybe even the Dreamcast probably wouldn't be added simply because of how difficult it is to emulate those consoles.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Please don't use the term "Wii 2". I have a personal thing against it.

Hear hear. The first time I found out the Playstation's successor was going to be called the Playstation 2, I groaned out loud. Nintendo and Sega always did a great job of naming their consoles with originality, rather than naming them as sequels or successors to old hardware. This was also around the time the "Xbox" was released, and what a travesty of a name that was. (I have one though. )

On-topic: The Wii's successor had better have some kind of classic controller though - and I find the GCN controllers nicer than the Wii classic controllers. I'm glad the Wii has backwards-compatibility with them. Also I missed out on the Gamecube (in my region it was a complete and total flop; no one bought it and you never saw the games in stores here), but I'm fortunate enough that I can now play the GCN games I missed like PSO Ep.1&2, Ikaruga and Eternal Darkness.

Moomoo is right, playing the gamecube doesn't even register as played on your log in your message board. That being said I don't have many gamecube games but would hate to have to buy them again and since they weren't that popular the first time theymight not even be offered: Beyond Good and Evil and Eternal Darkness, I also have Legend of Zelda Collectors edition but I can already downloead those.

Darn you Nintendo, my backlog is already out of control and you are just making it worse with these new game announcements!!!!

It's convenient yes, but I don't want convenience with the Wii 2, I want power, housed in a small and quiet little box. If they have to dump backwards compatibility I won't mind one bit.

Let's... push... things... forward!

I don't need my Wii to have backwards compatibility. I have a fully-functional GameCube!
