The Virtual Console releases are getiing less and less, and WiiWare support is increasing. I'm afraid one day Nintendo will stop supporting the Virtual Console service. I hope I'm wrong.

I highly doubt Nintendo would stop supporting the VC.

I hope not and I think there stupid by not adding more of there VC games that was a huge selling point for me as with there service I could buy some of the old games at a cheap price instead of having to go out and buy all the games over and a console to boot for them. I wished we could get Perfect Dark but I doubt we will, Star Wars episode 1 Racer and theres tons of games that would be beneficial. Theres been a few good WiiWare releases like Onslaught and Lost Winds but I want more VC games myself.

They'll only stop when they run out of games and there's still TONS left to add as many know. It's too early to conclude such a thing. The fact that VC support has now been down to one per update for quite some time shows that there's still a long way to go in that they're trying to extend the lastability of the service. I still say 2 per update is good but whatever...

I agree, would it kill NOA to release 2 VC games a week?

Nintendo know they will need to save some big VC releases for Wii2, maybe even Wii3. They could stretch the library out over the next ten years if they want, and they might with all the WW games they've got backed up.

EDIT: Actually it could be the exchange rate that has made them slow up, GBP & USD aren't as strong as they used to be, so why release it now, when they could wait till our markets are stronger again. At the moment, we pay the same amount, but they get less. Ninty luurves the cash!

They'll never stop. They do have a ton of games and gamers need patience. Too many of your rubes want them to blow their load all in one week. We didn't have a WiiWare/DSiWare service in any other generation. Stop being so ungrateful.

Yeah. There's no reason to drop the service, as I'm sure the pofit margins of the VC games are HUGE (especially now that a vast library is in place). We've already got some amazing titles, and so of them I never expected to come out. (SMRPG)

Again, just Nintendo being business savy. Eventually, With a Wii2 or 3 or whatever, they will have to add more systems (dreamcast, i'm looking at you). It's even slightly above "possible" for them to add the Gamecube as a system. (so they won't have to add Gamecube comparability on their next system, and so they can squeeze out more dollars out of the gamecube's game library)

There are only so many first-party games left. Third-party support hasn't been as universal as many expected. It can't go on forever.

It's hard to guess what'll happen when we have no idea how long the Wii will be supported before a new console launches. I would guess that it'll a last a year or two more.

WiiWare is really picking up, and DSi has foregone the VC altogether. Nintendo is clearly moving toward original releases over rereleases, and it's about time. I love retro gaming, but it should not be stealing the spotlight from new games.

The VC will last a long time. Probably for a few more video game generations at least. In terms of years, I would say around 20 to 30 years.

The think the VC is still in the beginning stages of it's life.

Rapadash6

The day that happens is likely pretty far off. I'm not even sure there will ever be a point when Nintendo stops releasing VC games entirely. I can see it getting to a point where VC releases become rare but not for a good few years yet.

Future Wii purchases:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Zelda Wii
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Sin and Punishment 2

TJtheHeretic

it will wen they run out of old systems and games

Not a chance.

Yes they can. Nintendo can also shut the service down when they don´t see any profits in it anymore. As I see it, that´s the downside of downloading. It will happen, just ask the japaneese if they can use their Satellaview for SNES. Hopefully VC/WW will last for many years though.

Games save to your Wii, so it doesn't matter if it shuts down. It's not like we won't be able to play them anymore. So I don't see how that is a "downside of downloading." It's only a downside if you don't download because later on you might not have the chance.

I highly doubt that will happen for a long time to come, and they will likely give advance notice so that if you are on the fence about downloading something you'll have a chance to get it before it's gone. A going-out-of-business sale, if you will.

The Wii console itself will malfunction one day. If you have games on disk / cart, all you have to do is buy a second hand console. With VC, WW, XBLA you can´t. That´s the downside.

Heh, tell that to my SNES. I'll be fine.

Well lets hope that Nintendo have the good sense to have the Virtual Console a regular addition to all its future consoles with some way to transfer games from the Wii to the next console.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I hope they won't make a Wii 2 (or 3)

of course in the next generations when the new systems come out, complete support of the wii will stop. they will even stop retail for wii just loike old systems
