I say Unleashed for now (haven't played Sonic and the Black Knight yet so I don't have an opinon on it). I actually like the night stages, I found them to be a mix of Ristar platforming and Golden Sun style beat'em up action. I will admit that there are some flaws with those stages such as having the character always running no matter how little you move the cointrol stick and altenating between two attack buttons instead of one, but I had fun beating up hordes of ememies. Also the music is just great in that game.

Umm what? Golden SUn beat'em up action? Golden Sun is a turn based RPG, unless you mean tto say Golden Axe.

(As I said before), I really liked Secret Rings. It was fast and furious and it had fantastic graphics and music. I especially like the Sand Oasis, Levitated Ruin and Night Palace musics. I dislike Evil Foundry and Skeleton Dome musics, but I do appreciate how Skeleton Dome unfolds from a pseudo-snowy outside level to a series of dark caverns full of creepy skeletons. I also liked the character of Erazor Djinn cos he's so badass, but Sharah sometimes seems like she has no confidence at all. At times, the game is frustrating and I can appreciate difficulties that can be had.

I also liked Unleashed because of the fast daytime stages. What I didn't like about it was how Sega handled the Wii version. They decided to shift their efforts onto the 360/PS3 versions and left Dimps to do the Wii/PS2 version. I believe that the 360/PS3 version could have been done on the Wii. It sometimes seems that the Wii version was developed for the PS2 in mind.

I'm not sure if people will agree with this, but it also seems to me that Sega's handling of Sonic Unleashed almost backfired. The critics believed that the Wii version was the best and the sales for the Wii version were the highest. Although, I think that IGN's review of the 360 version was silly. Some people assume that it's bad just because it's got Sonic in it.

Furthermore, I liked the Werehog stages, but only just. They were sometimes fun, but were awful other times. However, I do appreciate the music for Eggmanland night stages being a darker and slower version of the music for the day stages. It creeps me out just a little bit... Generally speaking, I liked the music, except for Spagonia day stage; it gets on my nerves after a while. I especially liked Holoska, Eggmanland, Apotos and Adabat day stages and the Apotas night stage music.

On the other hand, I think the concept of the werehog is absolutely ridiculous - it just feels like it's been forced in where it doesn't belong. I think that Chip is OK in small doses. I also appreciate the relatively small cast of characters, but I don't like Knuckles being mysteriously missing. What I don't like was Dark Gaia, purely because I would have prefered Eggman to be the sole antagonist.

I've also got Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. I like at times and hate it at others. It's clear that the control scheme is difficult. I don't have Black Knight, and I don't intend to get it.

My personal scores:
Sonic and the Secret Rings 8/10
Sonic Unleashed 7/10
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity 5/10

I would like a new 2D Sonic, simply because there are less things that can go wrong with 2D. But something like Secret Rings would be nice.

Wow! Didn't think I'd write that much.

Only tried Secret Rings, that was enough.

MetalMario

Well, if you HAVE to buy a Sonic game for Wii, get Sonic Unleashed.

MetalMario

Outrunner

Secret Rings. Unleashed would be great if you didnt have to play the werehog bits.

MetalMario

Secret Rings sucks because you can't move on your own. I hate games that have to push me along on a path. I like exploring levels and stuff.

Sonic Unleashed is WAY better than The Secret Rings. I hated that you didn't get to move in that game. That takes away THE MAIN PART of sonic games.

Guys guys guys. In 3-D sonic games, all you ever get to do is hold up on the control stick with the occasional jump or left and right turn. I always felt like most Sonic games were on rails anyway. Secret Rings took that idea, but make it actually work. And, the homing attack is waaay cooler in Secret Rings than in any other games (you push the Wii Remote forward. Much more satisfying than a button-press). Plus, it was gimmick free. No sword, no werehog. Just pure Sonic speed. Awesomeness.

Well, in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle there were some levels where you were Knuckles and it was free-roaming, but that game had some wicked-bad camera problems with all the non-Sonic levels. But in the 2-D games especially I felt like you sort of just held right on the control pad, and them sometimes you'd get hit by some random obstacle that you couldn't see coming because you were running so fast.

Despite all my complaints, I love me some Sonic.

In my opinion all of the wii sonics are bad sega either needs to make new 2d sonics like the genisis games or halfway decent 3d ones with more enjoyable gameplay like the adventure games

ganondwarf has always been short

I really don't like sega's recent atempts to change the way sonic games play

ganondwarf has always been short

I don't think that Sega should go back to their 2-D roots with Sonic. What's that proving? That they've given up on 3-D Sonic? That's kind of lame. I think they just need to take a couple years and really take their time on this next Sonic game. I think if they expand on everything that made Secret Rings and Unleashed so great (aka everything but the werehog levels) they could make something truly special. I don't think the problem is Sega--the problem is Sonic Team.

Sonic heroes and unleashed.

Heroes basically INTRODUCED ME to video games. Since i had an xbox, i would rent it, then rent it again, and again, and again. I never beat the game, but i loved it so much i kept on renting it. Until finally this year, i got it for $12 bucks at my gamestop, so know i can play it as much as i want.

Unleashed, had some of the best wii graphics ive ever seen, and also some of the soundtracks were very soothing, oh and the voice acting wasn't that bad. But as for the night levels: meh, they were okay, but there were WAY too many of them, i mean, there was about 10 or so normal sonic, and 20 to 30 werehog sonic levels, and they tried to bring beat-em up to the sonic series........it did'nt work.
