Topic: Are you using Wii Speak? Do you want to?

I finally set up my Wii Speak microphone yesterday, after being left in a box for the past couple of months since moving. I sent a quick "voice postcard" to my nephews, and thought that was a neat option. Thought how useful it could be to chat with family members... but then realized that neither of my sisters own the accessory. Then I realized that there really wasn't any reason to keep it hooked up after fiddling with the settings for a few minutes.

How many other people out there own Wii Speak? Do you use it regularly, or have you used it often in the past? Do anyone use the Wii Speak Channel to chat with friends or is better strictly as a gaming tool?

With Endless Ocean 2 and Monster Hunter coming before long, hopefully I'll be able to use this accessory more (especially since I'll have a second Wii Speak unit to give a friend or family member after buying the EO2 bundle) but so far it's been a waste. The only game I own that even supports it is Animal Crossing.

I think Wii Speak is a flop. It's highly unsupported, and though it's got a few upcoming decent games using it (which is about time, considering it's been out for well over a year now), it's still not enough for me to purchase it. Had it been usable in the background, for all games and not just certain ones, I would have picked it up. As it is, I don't know anyone (locally) who has it or plans on picking it up.

A very poorly implemented peripheral in my opinion.

I got WiiSpeak bundled with Animal Crossing City Folk, hoping one of my friends would also. None of my friends ended up getting Animal Crossing nor WiiSpeak, and the device has now been sitting on my TV for over a year without a single use. I desperately want a game to use it with, but none since have supported it. I'm surprised by Nintendo's lack of support for the device, and hope it turns around.

Not right now, but I have used it quite a few times before. And I'm actually surprise by lack of support too.

When I used it, it was pretty darn unresponsive. I adjusted it and I had to stand right in front of my screen for it to pick up anything. And about using it, I don't have the Conduit yet and City Folk was a piece of crap.

This sounds a little bit too familiar! I agree with ReZon's comment above: there just isn't enough reason to buy one, and if mine didn't come packed in with Animal Crossing during a great sale then I wouldn't have bothered.

Glad to hear that at least one person has used it though... and maybe with several good games coming out this year things will improve. (One thing that really disappointed me in 2009 was no voice chat in Madden when NHL and NBA both had it. Fingers crossed for this year.)

I'm hard of hearing and got no use for it.

One last thing I'll mention - if anyone wants to test out their Wii Speak using Animal Crossing or Endless Ocean 2, send me a PM sometime. I'm sort of curious to see how well (or poorly) it works since reviews seem to be mixed about quality. It might be scary to return to my Animal Crossing town though... haven't looked at that game in months!

I used it successfully with The Conduit, though the initial configuration for the Wii Speak Channel was less smooth. Originally I thought I'd attach it to the sensor bar on top of my TV, but it wouldn't register me at all, so I have to put it at the forward edge of the tv cabinet when I use it.

Endless Ocean 2 looks to be the next thing I get that will support it (got the notice it posted yesterday). I've also used the Channel to talk to people on the forum, but the problem with that it out of game chat takes me away from actually playing games, so it's not something I'm that keen to do frankly.

I don't see myself ever getting wii speak. When it comes to talking to friends while gaming I just use skype.

"Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let's hunt some Orc."

Outrunner

I like it. I use it on Animal Crossing and it works well. I'm looking forward to Monster Hunter too so I can join my buddy from Canada and play online. (Assuming there's no fee to play it).

KonsumKasse

Ejmer you can talk with me, over the Wii Speak Channel. But i don't have any Wii speak supported games.
