Where's the actual gameplay of exploring areas in the game like towns or whatever? They just have battle scenes so far on youtube. I want to get this game at some pint later but I want to see more on how how the game looks than just that.
Wasn't that hard to find. It's a full walkthrough of the game, from the looks of it, and it's easy to find a link to towns and other stuff in the side bar. Doesn't look great, but I'm just glad we're getting an original RPG finally. The game seems to have a lot of voice acting, and bad voice acting at that. I hope by some miracle they get better English actors or I'll have to play with voice off. It'll have to do until Dragon Quest 10, anyway. The $40 price tag definitely helps matters.
I've got it on preorder. Hoping to finish Dragon Quest 8 before then. When it's out, I'll be happy to field any questions on the English version as I'm not sure how many around here will be rushing to buy it.
Without a doubt it'd go entirely unnoticed on any other system. But unless E3 surprises us with a 2010 Western release of Dragon Quest, the only other JRPG option right now that I can think of is a sequel to a Gamecube game I haven't played, so this will have to do. Doesn't look bad, just kind of dated.
Battles look fun, which is what's most important to me, though they look kind of slow. Maybe animations can be turned off, though I doubt it.

Don't mean to derail but have you played DQ Swords? It's nowhere close to a main DQ but it's a nice little game in its own right. Plus Xenoblade and The Last Story could get localised.

I will eventually play DQ Swords when I have nothing else to play. It's finally down to a price I'm willing to pay on a game I haven't been able to rent, but I have DQ8 now to keep me busy.
Xenoblade was announced for US and Japan as far as I know. But it looks pretty bad so far. I'm watching out for Last Story, but there's too little information to be excited about it. Then again, we know almost nothing about Dragon Quest 10, either, but given how great DQ8 has been so far, I can't see what there is to worry about.

Have you seen the latest trailers for Xenoblade? There's much more to it than first appeared, the scale on the game overshadows any other JRPG this gen,
.... and yer, never doubt the quality of Dragon Quest games, even the spin offs, they're all great...just some are greater than others Nope not much about The Last Story, some indication of how the battles work and the main heroes have been reveleaed as well as the stting but no trailers and only a few screenshots so far

Looks much too serious for me, and kind of dull. I like the balance between humor/lightheartedness and seriousness that Dragon Quest strikes, and the Mother games even moreso.

Huh, nevermind, that does look interesting if for no other reason than the scope of the game, same reason I keep trying Final Fantasy games even though I almost never like them.
Still not something I'd want to buy, and definitely not the kind of game my Blockbuster would get. I'll likely end up playing it a year after release when it's cheap.
Xenoblade looks terribly dull. I'll probably pass on this one mostly because I don't like the art design and VO. Dragon Quest X, however, is quite another story.
