Topic: Am I the only one glad that Wii doesnt have "achievements"?

Achievements would be a nice bonus. They are not the main focus of the game anyway, so people shouldn't worry about a system that doesn't even exist (yet) on Wii.

I don't mind achievements, I have a PS3 & most of the games I have I would have done all the things required for most achievements anyway. Sometimes I've even done things I normally wouldn't have done because it was a trophy.

Flandre Scarlet, she's cute, she's colorful, she can blow up entire cities, she's also a vampire. Start running sparklepants.

We've had this discussion before, several times. General consensus among NintendoLife users appears to be that they're nice but not necessary. A little extra fun from achievements is welcome but not if it's invasive.

I used to be against it but recently I been really getting into getting all the treasures and secrets in games, and I thought maybe it would be a good idea. But if they where more like challenges by Nintendo though. Like maybe once a week a new challenge such as, Jump on 43 Bullet Bills without failing or, defeat Ganondorf without using your sword.

Don´t know why some people connect the achievements with a console?? Maybe I have got it all wrong but... isn´t it the same thing as we already see in alot of games. as an example I could mention Jett Rocket, Mega Man 9 or Bonsai Barber. Why do you think achievements is XBOX or PS3?? Isn´t it up to every game developer to add it to their game??

I like achievements. They encourage me to go places that I may have missed when exploring, complete quests I may have missed or not known about, and do things I may have never considered such as utilizing every melee weapon in a game. They encourage me to be different and try things outside of MY box.

That being said, I'm not a complete nutjob for them. I don't have to "catch them all". If I miss a few, then that's fine with me. The only game I have 100% completion on is Fallout 3. Mainly because that game was so awesome and secondly because I think that game deserved it.

I'm approcahing the 10K gamerscore milestone and I have to say I'm pretty excited about it.

My personal opinion falls under "I don't care." I mean, they're nice if you want to to waste more time with a game, but I'd be fine if none were to be found.

Basically what I meant is for me as a gamer, it detracts from the whole experience. Now like I said, if you got rewarded for doing those things, like a new "character skin", or like in Legendary Starfy where you beat all the levels and collect all the rewards, and it unlocks a new world, which in turn locks another world, ect. then I would be much more likely to continue playing, instead of getting a useless little number.
Those kind of milestones keep you immersed in the world the developers created. One of my favorites was (I know its just a cheesy little thing) when you beat Super Mario Sunshine, you got the Sunglasses/Beach shirt. I was so psyched about it that I went through all the levels again just to sport off my new duds. XD
I dont HATE achievements, I just think they are flawwed in my honest opinion.

That's nice and all, but plenty of games offer both unlockables and achievements. Just because achievements are included doesn't mean you won't find the other.

Achievements sometime take the fun out of the game, let alone, just enjoting it, with out having The game telling you, if you did a Good thing, even if it pointless.

some people take Achievement to far, and Cheat there way to getting these Worthless points, even if it, losing there Profile or getting Ban for it.

What ever happen to just enjoying the game?

I get them every once in a while when I play an Xbox 360 game, but to me they are more a distraction than anything. For example, I'll be playing this game, totally immersed in it, when all the sudden ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: PLAYED FOR 30 HOURS and it totally takes me out of the game or distracts me from what's happening. It's stupid.

I don't mind not having them, but since I don't have an Xbox 360 I guess I don't know what they'd be like.

I don't understand how a little text box takes you out of the game?

My thoughts exactly. Even more so when you can turn off the notifications.

It's not that puzzling, as video games are primarily a visual medium, and so having a visual notification pop up over the gaming area itself is certainly not going to appeal to everybody. No more than a DJ deciding to give traffic updates in the middle of a song you were enjoying is going to appeal to every listener.

The ability to shut them off is a welcome one, and that would be the way to please people on both sides of the debate, but "I don't see how this could possibly bother anybody!" is a little silly. It bothers them because they're trying to focus on one thing, and an unwelcome visual intrusion is asking them to focus on another.

If a game is good enough, I will work hard at unlocking all content and 'achievements'. If the game, or the 'achievements' involved are not fun, then I won't bother.

I feel kinda sorry for all these n00bs hooked on achievement points. Bless 'em.

I like achievements. They're not a deal-breaker, but they're a nice little addition and give games a little kick of replay value. I don't see why people get so up in arms about them; they're really not anything to get emotional about.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind having them on Wii, but obviously some ppl would need the option to turn them off for some reason.

SuperMarioFan96

I don't like the idea that EVERY game ever needs achievements. There are certain games that are well designed to have them... and there are some that are not. If the achievements are fun to get, I will get them. If I'm not actually enjoying getting them, I'm not going to go crazy trying to get them just so I can say, "Oh boy! I have more achievements then youuuuu!" That said, I don't think they're really a bad thing.

"Oooh, yes I said it! I said it! I said it 'cause I caaan!"
