I downloaded it on the eShop. Have you guys seen the crazy scalping of this game online? I am not willing waste my time searching high and low in stores for it. Scalpers can go slip on 100 banana peels.
@CatMarioTime: well it had a very sudden rise in interest due to smash. Retailers didn't have enough on hand and sold out. I'm sure stock will be replaced in a few weeks.
I don't know where you're from but from my position in the UK it is easy peesy to get a physical version for even a discounted price, a rarity on a Nintendo platform. Even the download version was below £10 just a few weeks ago during the holidays. What you also don't make clear is whether or not you were interested in the special edition that came with the original Bayonetta, that was limited in quantity I believe so it was bound to lead to this, happens with most limited edition versions of anything, not just games.
$39 new is cheap where I'm from.
But I did check again via Google shopping to make sure this wasn't crazy talk and the first thing I saw was $89?
That can't be right...
@Grumblevolcano: no it's still in print. It just sold around 100,000 copies in about a month when it had been doing around 15,000 or less. It caught retailers by surprise. It also climbed up the eshop charts in America and I haven't scene it their since the month of its release
@Chandlero: the USA has more wiiu users so when a surge happens for an old title we tend to run out first. After that the scalpers take advantage. Same thing happened with ocarina of time 3d. When majoras mask was announced it had a huge surge. When stock was depleted scalpers had it on sale for close to 90 bucks for about a month or two. Now you can find it at any best buy for regular price.
@Chandlero: it's currently list at 10 bucks above msrb for a used copy in America on Amazon and the wiiu is region locked. Are you talking about Amazon Canada? If they have one I ignorant to it.
Edit
Oh is that German? It won't work on a U.S. Wiiu
@Chandlero: most likely lower install base and over printing. It will probably go up as we get closer to the next dlc release. It a shame that it took smash to up the sales of an excellent game here in North America. It should have continued to sell well based on merit alone.

It's not a bad thing, though. I'd wager that most people only know Ness and Lucas through Smash Bros. Marth and Roy were even more obscure upon western release, and it's primarily because of Melee that we even have any Fire Emblem games outside of Japan.
Hopefully they make another release/printing. Seems like the same thing happened with Pikmin 3. I get that they don't want to have too much stock, but at the same time, it's evident that there's consumer demand for these.
@rockodoodle: bayonetta will most likely get one but I have doubts about pikmen. Nintendo gave it away for free for early Mario kart adopters. They may assume that nearly everyone who wants it has it. It's a very Nintendo like assumption to make.
