The switch has a large catalog of independent games, few new classics and a rotten wifi but is playable everywhere no matter how great.
The Wii u is a catalog not very well supplied but of good quality and with the virtual console.

Switch longterm. But youtube and netflix especially are AMAZING on the gamepad. And VC is also totally awesome on the gamepad.

The Wii U GamePad was nice when there was nothing else like it for games. I was one of the people shouting it's awesomeness from the rooftops. But I never saw the appeal for Netflix because of the low resolution and compressed image. Tablets and phones were always better than Wii U.

And now the Switch is a thing? It has also lost that advantage for games. Games on the Switch in portable mode look significantly better than they did on the GamePad. Rendering games on the device is always better than streaming. This is particularly true for retro style games eg NES and SNES games were always better on 3DS.

The day N64 games are on Switch is the day the Wii U gamepad loses its last unique selling point IMO.

It depends on your needs. If you like to have a hybrid device and option to play on the go than switch is good option. But it is expensive (I mean console, memory card, and new games).

Wii U in my opinion is much better option if you just want to play good games. There are plenty of games on wii u and what is more it is backward compatible with wii and you can get decent used games for like 5-10$.
I recently started to fill my collection with good wii games and they are really cheap now and there is huge choice of them.
In total you have huge selection of games from wii and wii u + virtual console.
